day forty-two (night)
Dear Diary,
I found out what President Snow meant by "people had already paid the price".
When we got back to D12, Haymitch couldn't find his parents.
He went around asking, finally the baker told him there was a fire. No one made it out alive.
I walked with him to the remains of his home. In the middle of this charred mess, was one single white rose.
The same kind that he left with me just two days before..
Why would he kill Haymitch's family?!
Certainly he didn't kill Haymitch's family!
That's not like President Snow to kill innocent people.
I mean sure he has the districts compete in the hunger games, but that's because of the war! To help keep the districts in line so that we humans don't go extinct due to another war.
I'm so confused about all of this.
You would think he would want us to be in love to help with publicity.
If he wanted us to keep quiet why didn't he just say so?
Why does not one ever say what they mean?
Now because of me, Haymitch will be alone.
His drinking problem was bad enough now how bad is it going to be without someone with him 24/7?
I stood there watching him, as every drop of anger and grief came out of him at once. After he calmed down I dropped onto the ground next to him. Stroking his back while silent tears fell to the burnt earth below us.
I wanted to stay in D12 with him for a few days but Haymitch wouldn't let me. He said it was best for a capitol girl to be in the Capitol and a Seam boy to stay in the Seam. Those were his last words to me.
Things will probably be different now. I hope we stay the same, but after what happened today I'm not sure we will.
Love,
Effie

I really hope this chapter makes sense.. I feel like I'm leaving half of every "day" in my head lol.
This is one of the (hopefully) two chapters I'm planning on posting today. Again thanks so much for the 100 reads! (It's a little over 100 now!)
