I yawn, resting my face in the palm of my hand over the dining table as I look at Jihoon who's finishing his luch. He looks at me, raising an eyebrow.
"Are you tired?" He asks, a slight smile forming on his lips after he cleans himself with a napkin.
I straighten my posture, sighing and smiling back at him.
"A little bit." I sigh. "I've been stressing out over the exams." I respond, folding my arms over my chest.
"Ah, well, since this is our last day you should be feeling happy." He says, pushing the plate aside and rubbing his palms on his thighs.
"Yeah, finally I can have some rest." I say, lifting my arms and humming contently.
Jihoon chuckles.
"I've been thinking a lot of things these days by the way." He suddenly says. I look at him in the eyes, giving him all my attention.
"What do you mean? About what?" I ask, tilting my head in confusion.
Jihoon's cheeks flush in a rosy tone, and he covers his face with both of his hands, making me chuckle.
"You were right, I think I like someone." He says, his voice muffled under his palms.
I smile, extending my hands to take his off his face. His sparkly eyes look at me, but immediately diverts his gaze and looks at his hands.
"Aww, I knew it!" I exclaim in excitement "Who is she?" I ask with my hands laced together. He rubs the back of his neck nervously.
"I-I Um, well, she's-" He starts, but suddenly gets interrupted by a deep voice behind me.
"Y/N?"
Jihoon looks at the person standing behind me, with an unreadable expression plastered on his face. I knit my brows together, turning my head to look at the person that's calling my name.
My heart skips a beat when our eyes lock. It's been a couple of days since we've seen or talked to each other, after what happened between us and he ran away.
"Soobin." I smile at him, my heart still pounding against my chest. He bites his lip and his dimples pop instantly, he scratches the back of his neck, taking a deep breath and exhaling.
"Can... Can we talk for a second, please?" He asks, diverting his gaze towards Jihoon, both of them glaring at each other with a strange tension in between.
I look at Jihoon, giving him an apollogetic smile.
"I'll be right back." I say, excusing myself, he nods.
I stand up, following behind Soobin towards some corner of the cafeteria, and I can still feel Jihoon's glare above us. He stands just in front of me, looking into my eyes with a hint of guilt filling his dark orbs.
"I... I just wanted to say that I'm sorry about the other day." He says, his expression is completely serious and his voice is thick and low, sending chills down my spine.
Remembering what happened it's such a bittersweet feeling. I wouldn't know how else I could define it. However, I know it probably wasn't his intention to make things awkward between us. I smile at him warmly.
"It's okay, don't worry." I respond, tucking my hair behind my ear. Soobin keeps quiet for a second, but then gives me a little smile.
"When are you going to release Eggbert?" He asks, his question taking me by surprise, I wasn't expecting such a change of topic.
"Tomorrow." I respond, sighing. "I'm going to miss him."
He nods.
"Me too... Uhm, would you mind if I join you?"
The thought of us being all alone together makes me shiver. I don't really know how to feel about it, since I'm still very confused about that kiss we shared and apparently he just wants to erase from his mind. My stomach flips, and I actually want to avoid uncomforable scenarios, but I know he cares about Eggbert, so I can't just say no to him.
"Sure." I smile, he smiles back, making my heart melt.
"Okay, I'll see you there. When and where?"
"Um, in the lake that's a few blocks away from my house. At 3pm."
He nods with a smile, lifting his hand with the intention of placing it over my head, but he stops midway and pulls it back, looking troubled. My heart aches at his expression, he must feel really bad about what happened and he probably thinks I don't want him to be near. I giggle, grabbing his hand and placing it over my head. He looks at me confused, but then his eyes soften and his bright smile shows up. He pats my head gently, then pulls his hand back.
"I'll see you tomorrow." He says and I nod, we smile at each other once more, until he waves and walks away.
I bite my lip and take a deep breath, trying to soothe my speeding heart as I walk back to the table where Jihoon is still waiting. He has his arms crossed over his chest, with a look of annoyance of his face. I chuckle and take a seat in front of him.
"Are you mad at me?" I ask, he raises an eyebrow.
"Should I? You left me here waiting."
I pout.
"I'm sorry Jihoonie." I say, asking for forgiveness with my eyes and puffing my cheeks.
His eyes soften, and even though he tries to surpress it, he ends up smiling at me and unfolding his arms, letting out a soft chuckle.
"I'll let it pass, just because it's you." He winks.
I chuckle.
"How considerate. Thank you wink boy." I say, standing up after the bell rings. He stands up too, walking around the table to be beside me. He lifts his hand and pats my head as we make our way to our last class.
"It's nothing, puffy cheeks."
I chuckle, pushing his arm slightly.
"What were you saying about the girl you like?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. He chuckles nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I, um... She's beautiful, and nice, and fun. I'm sure you'd like her." He assures, a shade of pink appearing on his cheeks "But anyways. I had something to tell you." He adds, trying desperately to avoid the previous topic.
I stop walking, and so does he. He stands in front of me, with my classroom behind my back.
"What is it?" I tilt my head in confusion.
"My birthday is in three weeks, and I would really love if you could come." He says, a pleading look in his eyes. I take a deep breath and sigh.
"Just me? You know I'm not a party girl and stuff... Maybe we could hang out latter as a compensation..." I say, but he cuts me off.
"Please. I promise I won't leave you alone, I'll stand by your side the whole night so you won't feel uncomfortable, but please, please come." He begs, reaching for my hand and holding it between his, pouting cutely.
Looking at him I realize I have no choice, there's no way I could win this. Besides, he's such a sweet guy and a great friend, so I guess this is the least I could do for him. I let out another breath, but end up smiling warmly at him.
"Alright. I'll go, but if you leave me alone I'm going to kick your butt." I joke. He smiles widely, and ruffles my hair in excitement, before cupping my cheeks in his hands and moving my face side to side. I chuckle, snapping his hands off me, and giving him a weird look.
"You won't regret." He promises, giggling. "I'll see you later to walk you home." He adds and I nod, before he waves at me and walks away. I shake my head and smile to myself, entering the room.
The last class of the semester is finally over, and the time passed really quickly. I walk out of the classroom with a huge need of throwing all my books away, but I try my best to surpress it and I just throw them inside my locker.
I walk out of the campus, finding Jihoon as he waits for me, leaning against one of the walls and playing with his phone. I walk towards him, and when he notices my presence he looks up and smiles at me, sliding his phone inside his pocket.
"Ready? It's finally time to get our well deserved vacations." I exclaim, lifting my arms and smiling in excitement. Jihoon chuckles, starting to walk beside me.
"I hope you don't make many plans the next month, I'm not planning on getting bored so I'll make you leave your house." He says. I raise an eyebrow at him.
"I just want to sleep, don't pressure me" I whine, making him giggle. "Even now I feel really tired, my whole body aches."
He pouts.
"Want a piggy ride?"
I stop walking. I frown in confusion, looking at him, and him grinning.
"Are you serious?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. He nods.
"Yeah. I'm sure you're not heavy anyways."
I rub my chin, thinking about his offer, but then, I smile and shrug.
"Who would say no to a piggy ride?"
Jihoon chuckles, squatting a little. I jump on his back and wrap my legs around his waist, he grabs my thighs to support me. When I realize that he's touching my skin, I instantly regret my decision, the heat growing on my cheeks. He starts walking, and I wrap my arms around his neck.
"I-I um, I think this wasn't a good idea." I mutter, feeling incredibly embarrassed. However, he doesn't stop walking.
"Too late, you're already on my back." He chuckles. "By the way... I don't mean to be nosy, but I've noticed you're a little down." I look down, his shiny fluffy hair is the only thing my eyes can meet as he keeps walking. His hair smells really nice. "You're trying to hide it, but it's not working with me." He adds.
I keep silent, actually shocked that he knew how to read me when not even Suri has been able to. It's true that I've been feeling bad since that day with Soobin, but I wasn't planning on letting anyone know about it. I sigh.
"It's okay, Jihoon. I've been a little stressed, that's it. Thank you for worrying." I assure, ruffling his hair gently with a smile on my face.
"I know that's not all... But I won't force you. Just know that if you need something, I'm here."
I smile at his words.
"Thank you." I respond, resting my cheek on his head.
Jihoon is such a nice guy, and one of the best friends I've ever had, he became such an important person in a short time. He always cares, he always listens. I'm really grateful, I'm glad I met him.
Laying on the sofa, I keep changing the channels looking for something good on TV, failing terribly. I yawn, stretching my body and tucking my hair behind my ear when I hear my phone buzzing on the table. I lean forward and grab it, picking up the incoming call.
"Hello?"
"Y/N, I'm glad you picked up."
I frown, confused.
"Yeonjun? What's wrong?"
"Is Soobin with you?"
"Um no, why?"
He sighs.
"I can't find him."
I stand up, walking around the house with the phone against my ear with a permanent frown plastered on my face.
"What do you mean you can't find him, Yeonjun?"
"He was at my place. I went to take a shower and when I was done he just wasn't there. I've tried to call him but he wouldn't pick up, I even waited to see if he had left to the convenience store or anything, but it's been more than two hours and he hasn't came back. I'm getting worried."
"What? Why would he do such a thing? And why did you think he would be here anyways?"
"I know, this isn't something Soobin would do normally. He looked a bit trouble though, like something was bothering him. And I don't know, he seems to be calm around you and you're probably the only one he would listen to anyways. However, I need to know where he is."
"Yeonjun, I don't th-"
A sudden knock on my door interrupts me. I'm completely worried about him and I can't even understand what has gotten into him to do something like leaving Yeonjun all worried. I walk towards the door, I'm not awaiting for anyone, but when I open it, a sigh of relief leaves from my mouth.
"Y/N?"
"He's here."
Yeonjun sighs too.
"Ugh, that's such a relief."
"I'll talk to him and call you if something happens."
"Okay. And I'm sorry for bothering you."
"It's okay, thank you for calling me. Goodbye."
I hang up the phone without saying anything else looking at him dead in the eye, our eyes not breaking contact. Disappointment and a nauseous feeling in the pitch of my stomach fills me at the sight. Bloodshot eyes, red cheeks, he's leaning against the door frame with a bottle of Soju in his hand, looking at me with his burning gaze, his usual smile, his adorable and cute self is nowhere to be seen. I can't believe what I'm seeing.
He's drunk.
