Monday 5th 2XXX part 2

Dear diary,

After school ended, before I could go home, I felt a hand on my shoulder. Swiftly turning around, I saw Laya standing in front of me, a wide grin on her face. I subtly rolled my eyes under my hood and began to walk away, when she stopped me again.

"We have to do the assignment, silly!" She smirked, causing me to groan a bit.

"Can we go to your house? My room's a bit of a mess..." she sighed, trying to guilt trip me into letting her come to mine. I knew I wasn't going to get out of it, so I grabbed her wrist and pulled her over to the bus stop. Paying for both of our tickets, I pulled myself into a ball on the window seat as she sat up straight in the seat next to me.

I turned up the music, blocking out whatever she tried to say to me. She got the hint and just stared into space. Watching the trees and houses go by was a satisfying feeling if I'm honest. It calmed me down. I lived on the outskirts of town, just so I could practice magic with my goddaughter. Today the lessons were paused, I guess, we didn't want anyone else to know our abilities, in fear of that happening again.

When I felt the bus stop for the fifth and final time, I stood up and Laya followed me. We walked through the woods for a bit, then ended up at my small two story house. It was my family's safe house, before.... never mind.

It was constructed using magic, so was much more stable then it looked. It was made purely of spruce and oak logs, an oak door keeping the wind out. There were no windows or electricity, but that's because magic could fuel our electronics and lights.

We walked into the house, it was much different on the inside, always has been. On the inside it looked like your average house, it was even bigger than appearance as well. Just, imagine one of those rooms you see in magazines and put that in a shabby shack. That's roughly my house.

"Woah..." Laya muttered as I swung my bag on a hook by the door. We both took our shoes off and put them in a little shoe cubby I had made out of scrap wood.

I had previously teleported Lola into her room, so soon I was tackle hugged by her from behind.

"Hah! Caught you of guard!" She cheered grinning widely as she let me go.

"Is this your sister?" Laya questioned, the most normal reaction.

"Is this your girlfriend?" Lola teased, and I immediately gave her a death stare.

"She's my goddaughter and she's just a person I got partnered with in a project!" I retorted, walking into the living room and scrunching myself into the corner of our corner couch. Lola went back up to her room and Laya day on the other end of the couch. An awkward silence fell over the room.

"Sooo... What do you want to do for the project...? It's for the science fair..." Laya began, pulling out a notebook and pen like an anime or cartoon character. I sat for a few moments. "Maybe... a soda volcano...?" I muttered, saying the first thing that came to mind.

We sat in silence a bit more, that idea was too normal for the both of us. "Plants reactions to music?" Laya suggested. "They don't have ears," I responded, leading to another awkward silence. Then I came up with an idea.

"Illusions? That's sciencey." I shrugged, glancing over at Laya. If this was a cartoon, her eyes would be wide and filled with random hearts and stars along with being overly detailed compared to the normal style of the artist.

"YES!" She yelled! Standing up with her arms in the air. I couldn't help but chuckle a little. She never acted like this at school, she was usually more mature. Right now she's acting like a five year old! Must be the reputation to keep up.

A few hours later, we were still discussing different types of illusions when her phone began to ring.

"Hello?" She responded, picking up the phone without looking at the caller ID. "Oh, hey Dad! I'm doing a project with a classmate. Don't worry it's a girl. Okay love you!" She said unto the phone, only small gaps so the caller could respond.

"I have to go now, sorry," she said. I nodded my head and walked her to the door.

"You can come to my house tommorow if you want! I'll just have to alert my brothers." She smiled at me, putting her shoes back on. I smirked and waved goodbye as she left.

"Laya and Jenny sitting on a tree," I heard behind me, not having to turn around to see who it was. "K.I.S.S.I.N.G!" I pulled my hood over my head and pulled the string so it would completely cover my face.
