The fallout zone
Dear Diary,
Everyone in the nearest towns were ordered to leave. They wouldn't tell us why, but they said that if we stayed we wouldn't survive.
We now live in a very famous area called "the fallout zone". Hundreds of thousands of years ago, a radioactive meteor hit the land. It contaminated the land and up until recently, with all the deaths in the world, has suddenly become habitable. The government built a nuclear power station, and then built houses. My family's old home became a desert, and many people died so we were forced to move to the fallout zone. We had no choice.
"This one doesn't seem so bad?" Survivor 2 asked optimistically, expecting no answer from the others.
But soon after moving there, people began to die. Those closest to the power plant died first. There flesh burnt and peeled off from the bone, their organs shrivelling up and bursting inside their bodies. Their screams could be heard for miles, and after all their suffering, they chose to break their own bones to escape their pain. Their bones cracked like twigs. Something had done this to them.
Them more people started dying, but in different ways. Most people suffered their skin falling off, but others simply dropped dead on their feet or, and this was the worst way, cut off their own limbs with anything they could find, their blood splattering the surroundings as a permanent reminder that we would never, ever survive this apocalypse alive. I would soon learn that. I didn't leave when I should have. I stayed. I wish I left, but I couldn't leave her, I couldn't leave my dying sister. In that moment, I was too kind. I should have left. I should have left.
"I spoke too soon." Survivor 2 said.
"I heard about this when we were outside," survivor 5 said "my family moved there but left me behind."
