Chapter 3: Convince yourself that you were Wrong

With the shine of the sun peeking through the window, the little princess, Charlotte woke up, annoyed at the light as always. Throwing her blanket off of the bed, she sat up, frustrated. The usual ego-ic smile on her face was gone. For the first in her life, she felt slightly guilty about something she did.

She crawled up on bed, touching her knees to her chest and resting her head above them. She hugged her legs tightly. It had been two days since she uploaded the video and it had been bugging her mind since. She had gone too far but she didn't know if she should take it down.

She had avoided all social media interactions for a while to not get updated on what actually happened to that chef and her restaurant. She should have known that her audience was way more powerful than she realized. A sigh escaped her lips as she decided to at least open the social media, if to avoid any type of conflicts.

She took her phone from the bedside table and turned it on. She had switched it off since the other night to avoid any notification or calls. Thousands of notifications immediately burst out but she deleted them all and directly jumped to Line. 12 notifications from Faye immediately jumped to the top.

Before she even opened the chat, she knew Faye would be mad at her for not replying to her texts. So she opened it, her breath hitching as she pressed over the chat.

Faye

Ai’Char! Do you have any idea what you've done?

The poor girl's restaurant is getting canceled because of your video!

Charlotte! Reply!

*Video link* Title of the video: “Food is Life” is not worth the visit? The people are trash? Find out more about what Charlotte said!

Ai’Char! People are gathering fake information about her because of your accusations. Her business is closing down.

*Missed call*

Stop that right now!

*Missed call*

You can't avoid this. Come on!

You're ruining her career for no reason.

*Missed call*

Fuck you!

Charlotte silently eyed the messages, guilt taking over her whole body. Why did I do that? What did she even do to me to deserve that? What should I do now? If I apologize, she'll not forgive me for this!

Her eyes roamed over to the video link and she clicked it.

The video she posted played at the very beginning. “She was so mean to me, I didn't think I'd ever have to experience something like that!” Charlotte's crying face was shown and then, it skipped to the usual screen of a girl talking. “I was there during the incident and I saw the argument between phi Charlotte and that chef. Not only did she talk very meanly to phi Charlotte. She also pushed her down and when she fell and tried to call people to help, the owner called the security guard and called her out.” Charlotte paused the video. None of that was true. She didn't have to continue to watch it to know that it was just a bunch of lies told for views, the same way she, herself, had told lies on the video for sympathy.

After that, Charlotte began to feel really bad about what she did. She's always been an outright person with maybe a bit of too much ego in herself. But it had never gotten to such a point. She never thought she'd create such a hassle over such a trivial matter.

Charlotte had always been a troublesome child when she was young, unlike her brother who was perfect. Perfect in every way.

I'm going way out of control…

*Flashback*

Charlotte's mother was standing in the hallway with two sets of report cards in her hand. “Why are you like this? Why can't you be like your brother?”

Charlotte stood in front of her mother, her head down, tears falling from her eyes constantly.

Charlotte's mother's hand reached out to the daughter's shoulder and pushed it lightly. “Answer me! Why can't you be better for once, huh?” Charlotte didn't answer, only sounds of silent sobs were heard.

So her mother continued criticizing her. “Have you looked at your brother? He's good at sports, studies and even singing. What about you? What have you done? Except for creating trouble?”

Those were her mother's daily words whenever Charlotte got her exam papers or even couldn't succeed in any competitions. She was used to hearing them. But that didn't make her stop feeling so worthless every time it happened. Wiping her tears, she looked up towards her brother who was smiling. And when she made eye contact with him, he brought his tongue out and mocked her.

Charlotte's blood boiled at the scene. What had she done to deserve such a family? She turned to look at her mother who was still scolding her but she didn't pay attention. She snatched the report card from her hand and ran towards her room, immediately locking the door.

She threw everything on the table, bed to the floor, screaming her lungs out. But not one person knocked on the door to check on her. It was normal. She'd scream for a few minutes then calm down and sit silently at her bed and then will continue sobbing. It happened at least once every month. No one cared about it.

After an hour or two when she opened the door, she saw her brother on the couch, playing video games. She went up to him and sat beside him, dry tears still evident on her cheeks.

Her brother, Mek, turned to look at her and began mocking. “Miss crybaby is finally out,” he murmured and focused on the game.

Tears began falling from Charlotte's eyes again as she looked at the other in disbelief. “Can you for once fulfill the duty of a big brother?” She asked out, her voice breaking.

“Big brother? What have you done to deserve to be my little sister? I'm embarrassed just thinking about it,” he continued, not even bothering to look at her again.

“You're…bullying me,” Charlotte replied and Mek just silently chuckled.

Then she got up from the couch and stood straight. With tears in her eyes, she turned to look at the other in disgust. “If one day, I become successful, I'll never become like you, remember that,” She said and went back to her room, locking herself again.

“Keep dreaming. That day will never come,” her brother replied.

*End of Flashback*

Am I breaking my promise?

Am I becoming the person I once hated? The selfish figure I despised?

Tears fell from Charlotte's eyes as she remembered her promise. It was never her intention to turn into such a monster.

After a while, she wiped her tears, ready to face the reality. She needed to apologize. There was no other way. She didn't want to stay that way anymore.

She opened her chat with Faye again.

Faye, can you get me the address to her house or at least, her number?

Faye didn't reply. She was seen online but she was obviously mad that Charlotte ignored her.

Please, reply. I'm sorry.

Three dots immediately appeared under the chat, indicating that Faye was typing. It was really unusual for Charlotte to apologize to anyone.

Khun nu (young master), finally decided to reach out.

You could have just called.

What do you need that information for?

Charlotte hesitated. She was going to admit that she was wrong, something that she hadn't done in years.

I'm…going to apologize to her.

Am I dreaming? Khun nu Charlotte has learnt to apologize to a stranger? Who she almost ruined the career of?

Charlotte could feel the sarcasm through the text but she didn't mind it. She deserved it. She knew she did. All the scolding was necessary to knock some sense into her.

Please just help.

Fine.
