Chapter 2: The Chef
Engfa had been at that restaurant for years. She had been great at cooking since she was young. She always spent time in the kitchen, despite her parents not liking it and would always make a mess. Now she had grown up and could do what she wanted.
She was still used to making a mess of the kitchen but unlike before, no one would clean it for her. It had become her own responsibility. As time passed, she realized that she wasn't only great at cooking and doing things perfectly, she also loved to spend time in the midst of the smell of delicious food and sometimes, even the burn.
As she got older, she began wanting to be a chef but unfortunately, there were no chances for her so that was the only option left. Who knew she'd become so famous?
Engfa had always been treated with respect in the restaurant. Because of many advantages, she had never been bullied in her life even once. But just because she didn't have experience, didn't mean she was going to let things slide if someone close to her was treated badly by someone. What's right is right and what's wrong is wrong. Why did she have to stay quiet towards what's wrong just cause the person doing the wrong is someone popular?
Therefore, the second she found out someone mistreated Fon, her dearest, she knew it wasn't going to be good.
"Excuse me?"
As the rich girl turned her head, Engfa was almost lured away by her beauty. But she ought to keep her composure. "Did you misbehave with our waitress?" She paused. "I suggest you apologize."
The girl's forehead wrinkled. "And why should I do that?" She asked.
"Because you shouldn't treat anyone badly just because you're a rich spoiled brat?" Engfa asked sarcastically, her hand automatically dropping from the girl's shoulder.
"And what's that got to do with you, miss...chef?" The girl scanned Engfa through her sharp gaze before turning back to look at her phone in front.
Engfa's hand this time gripped the girl's shoulder tightly. "Hey!" She paused. "Don't you think you're being too rude?" She yelled out.
The girl turned around again, a mischievous grin evident on her face as she looked around the restaurant. Almost everyone in the restaurant turned to look at their table with Engfa's yell. "Don't you think you're making a scene for no reason?" She asked, standing up.
"No reason? You're being rude. I can kick you out of here, you know?" Engfa asked out, her hand sliding down to hold Fon next to her.
"No, you can't. And you won't. Don't you know who I am?" The girl walked closer to Engfa. At that point, every single human being in the restaurant was staring them down, wondering what was actually happening.
"I don't. And I don't give a shit," Engfa pressed. "I'm the owner of this restaurant and Fon, she is not just a waitress. She's the manager. She's just trying to help because a waiter fell sick. But since disgusting people like you do exist..." She stopped for a second and looked around the outside of the restaurant. "Guard, get this woman out."
Before Charlotte could say more, a guard standing outside the restaurant, barged in and held her arm to get her out. "Don't touch me!" Charlotte yelled, brushing the hand away.
"You'll regret this," Charlotte murmured, walking out of the restaurant herself alongside the guard while watching Engfa and Fon walk back to the kitchen, Engfa's hand wrapped around Fon's waist.
Hearing Charlotte, Engfa held over a middle finger while walking back to the kitchen. Charlotte cursed under her own breath, walking out. Luckily, there wasn't anyone who knew her in the restaurant at all. The only girls who knew her had taken the photos with her and left the restaurant.
Arriving back at home, Charlotte decided that she wasn't going to let that slide. She took out her phone and held it in a nightstand and pressed the recording button. "Guys!!" She began, her voice almost pitiful fakely. "The restaurant you suggested, I didn't think the owner and staff would be so disrespectful. I respected your choices but what now? She kicked me out of the restaurant!" She continued, the tone of her voice upset, fake tears joining in the corner of her eyes, making up stories that were nowhere near what actually happened.
As she pressed the upload button, in not even a few minutes, the video was filled with sympathetic comments. 'I'm so sorry this happened to you.', 'How dare she?', 'I didn't know she was this rude. I was planning to go to that restaurant. But I changed my mind now.', 'Hope you're okay.' '🥺🥺', '😠😠'. Almost all the comments were filled with sympathy, even though no one knew the actual truth.
Reading the comments, a part of Charlotte was satisfied but when the comments got too much, another part of her began feeling guilty. But just like any other videos of her, the video went viral in no time and the comments were getting even too much to the point, people began hating on Engfa.
The next day, Charlotte, as always, was acting unbothered by her own actions. Her best friend, Faye, was supposed to come over. "So what's with you and that restaurant? I had gone there before. They all seemed really nice to me," Faye suddenly brought up the topic. By that time, the video Charlotte posted had reached over 2M views already.
"You don't know shit," Charlotte replied, attempting to avoid the topic.
"Seriously, what did she do? She was literally so nice last time I went there," Faye expressed again, leaning back against the chair she sat on. "Or...were you the one misbehaving?" She asked again, in a wondering tone.
"Ai'Faye..." Charlotte protested.
"I'm just saying. Besides, I know you well. You can be really rude sometimes," Faye murmured by herself. She did know her well. They'd been friends for years and Charlotte had always been like that.
Charlotte opened her mouth to protest again but was unable to get any word out of her mouth. She knew it was true. And she was beginning to feel guilty about it.
"People are starting to attack her on social media," Faye suddenly blurted out. She knew Charlotte was not as bad as she seemed. She could be very rude but it all came from the ego she'd always try to bring up.
Charlotte froze in her place, her mind wandered around and her face immediately dropped. What? No... She didn't mean for it to go that far. She... went too far. She bit her lip in nervousness. What had she done?
"You should apologize to her," Faye murmured to Charlotte.
Yes. She should. She knew she had gone too far but... how was she supposed to apologize to a simple chef, putting her ego aside? No... she doesn't want to do that. Charlotte had always been someone who didn't like to apologize.
