Love, Preston
~3 Months Later~
The first day of my junior year arrives. The weather is still sweltering hot so I'm sweating buckets at the bus stop. There is no shade to shield me from the rays of the sun either so I end up chugging almost a whole bottle of water while waiting. Finally, I see the dreaded yellow monster appear down the road. I actually rather be on the way to school right now than waiting for that stupid bus, which should say a lot.
Normally I would ride my bike but, well...
The bus arrives and I run across the road to hop on. I know exactly where I'm going to sit, or rather, who I am going to sit with. Smiling, I see Preston near the back with his hand slightly raised like he's unsure if he wants to wave or not. Upon seeing that I've spotted him, he gets this goofy smile on his face, his teeth coming out to bite at the bottom of his lip.
My boyfriend is damn cute. Suddenly, I'm not all that bothered about school.
"Hey," Preston says the moment I take a seat next to him. If I manage to get a car this year I am so driving us to school but since I can't do that yet I guess taking the bus is ok, it's some extra time I get to see him in the morning!
"Hello, is your mom picking you up after school?"
Preston nods, holding his backpack a little tighter in his lap. However, he's not frowning and it shows how much our talks about his parents have helped him over the summer. Preston's parents "officially" divorced only about two weeks ago. His dad is keeping the house allowing Preston to continue going to school while his mom is living with her parents until she can get her own place. Thankfully they aren't fighting for custody, letting Preston choose to see his parents whenever he wants.
He's been making sure to visit his mom a lot so she knows that he isn't choosing one parent over the other. I know it's been a bit hard on him because, thankfully, he tells me about it. Overall though, it's been better for him. Being able to go home without fear of there being a fight has been great. That doesn't stop him from coming over to see me though and I'm hoping soon he'll invite me over.
I understand why he didn't want me to go over before, the chance of his parents arguing was high. However, now maybe I can pay him a visit? Honestly, I just want to search his room for something embarrassing, like porn, so I can tease him about it. He's so cute when he's embarrassed!
"I'm staying with mom and my grandparents tonight too. They'll bring me to school in the morning so you should probably ride your bike," Preston says, looking at me because he knows I won't like that. I pout immediately, which has him chuckling.
"I don't know if I can put up with not hanging out with you after school. I may go crazy."
Preston playfully shoves me, shaking his head. "You're already crazy."
"True." I lean over, getting close enough to make his cheeks go red. His eyes dart about the bus, taking in those around us before returning to me. I smile at the slight panic on his face before pulling away while whispering, "You love it."
Preston doesn't deny or confirm what I said but his smile tells me enough. He totally loves it.
It doesn't take long for us to get to school. We get off the bus and head into school to get to first period. However, before either of us step into the room, Preston grabs hold of my wrist and pulls me aside. I nearly trip over my own feet but barely manage to keep myself up right. While other students are piling into class, Preston and I are standing away from the door.
The boy looks nervous when he asks, "Are you sure? I mean...i-if you have changed your mind, I-I won't be mad."
"Have you?" I inquire, taking Preston's hand in my own to see if he pulls away. I'm happy to say that he doesn't, instead, his fingers intertwine with my own.
Preston shakes his head.
"Good, neither have I," I chirp, swinging our hands between us. Some fellow students are looking so it's a little late now anyways. We've been caught and while some stare for a moment, no one really says anything. "Lets go, if we stay out here any longer we'll be late."
Preston hums in response, allowing me to pull him into class with our hands clasped together. The moment we step into class my eyes land on the guys who have already found their seats. It's DJ who notices us first, he smiles and goes to wave us over when his eyes finally catch the hand hold between Preston and I.
While he doesn't say anything he does elbow Sam and kick Mark across the aisle. Both boys grunt, ask DJ what's up before finally looking in our direction. To say Sam's smirk is positively evil would be an understatement. I'm ready to run out of the room but it's too late, the boy whistles loud enough to catch everyone's attention.
"What's this I see?" Sam calls, pointing at me then Preston. "Preston, my man, when did you get so desperate?"
Preston snorts while I gasp. Mark starts to cackle uncontrollably while DJ starts to send us playful winks and some disgusting kissy faces. Slowly, Preston and I make our way over to them since it appears to be safe...mostly. Preston isn't looking up, he can't seem to stop himself from blushing either.
I, on the other hand, am glaring death at DJ when he has the audacity to say, "Wow, Preston, you're kind of cute when you blush like that."
Preston looks up and stares at DJ in disbelief. However, I happily reach out to wrap my arm around his neck. The boy gasps while I keep him in a head hold, shaking him from side to side while shouting, "Don't you dare call him cute!"
"Jealousy is not an attractive trait in a boyfriend, right Preston?" Mark looks to Preston, winking as if to ask him to agree. The poor boy doesn't know what to do so he just kind of sputters. It seems even after summer he doesn't know how to handle them.
That's ok because I've been with them for years and still don't know how to handle them either.
"Leave him alone, you guys are freaking him out!" I shout, punching Mark and reaching for Sam but he's too far away.
"Haven't we always freaked him out?" DJ asks, which I guess is technically true because they bugged him before but this is different. "We're just happy that you two finally came out."
"Finally?" I look between my friends who are all smiling and nodding like I'm supposed to get what they mean. I don't and that seems to bother them.
Sam rolls his eyes. "Dude, you and Preston were inseparable all summer and all you did was flirt with each other."
"We did not!" I'm totally lying, we definitely flirted. It's hard not to though! Preston is so cute and it just kind of happens! I can't help it! It's his fault for tempting me!
"I'm curious though," DJ says suddenly, looking between Preston and I with a serious expression. It has the both of us stiffening, my hand taking his once again. However, I shouldn't expect much from my friends, ever. "How are your hips, Caleb?"
Without much thought, I reply instantly, "You should be asking Preston that."
Chaos ensues, the guys all start howling uncontrollably while Preston drops to the floor. He has his face buried in his hands, his blush once again reaching to his ears.
Mark is pretending to cry, his voice coming out through his laughter, "Our baby boy is growing up so fast!"
"Well, with your size I bet Preston's hips are just fine," Sam teases, gesturing to my height, which has nothing to do with my penis size you fucking jerk! I'm about to argue that when Preston actually comes in to save me.
"Trust me, his height is the only thing that's small."
"Holy shit, Preston!" Mark shouts while my friends definitely can't stop laughing now.
I, on the other hand, am blushing uncontrollably, which is normally Preston's job. Sure, he's still blushing but now he's laughing along with my friends, looking up at me with sparkling hazel eyes that still makes my heart race. I smile back at the boy, who seems to be enjoying himself. Thankfully, our conversation detours from there but there doesn't seem to be an issue with Preston and I.
We take our seats, my friends happily talk to us like nothing has changed. It's relieving to know that they don't care though, from how they reacted it seems they already knew the truth for a while. I'm grateful they didn't bring it up before I was ready though because I may have ran.
I'm happy things turned out the way they did and, judging by Preston's smile that remains the whole day, so is he.
The end of the day rolls around and, sadly, Preston has to leave. His mom is here to pick him up so after the bell rings he gives me a quick kiss in front of everyone.
"I'll see you tomorrow," he says, leaning down for another kiss and honestly I'd like another so if he could lean down I would appreciate it. He doesn't, that rotten bastard, I'll get him for it later!
"Ok, have fun, text me!" I shout after the boy, waving goodbye until he disappears down the stairs. Once gone, I sigh and head to my own locker with a frown. I would have preferred if we could hang out after school. I'm so used to Preston being around now that when he isn't I feel lonely.
It doesn't take me long to get to my locker except I hesitate to open it. A small yellow sticky note is stuck to the front and I feel myself smiling before I pull it off to read over it. This time it's not a prank, the note is a real one.
Dear Caleb,
I really like you <3
Love,
Preston
