Chapter 21 (Remy)
Where are they?
I came to get Virgil for our usual Whine and Cheese club (Parks and Rec, babes), and I didn't see anyone there. That wouldn't be so weird, except there was no safety plan on the table.
Every time they go out, Patton leaves a plan on the table, saying where they went, what time, how to save them, etc. It's really annoying, but now I'm concerned.
I'm knocking on all the Side's doors, but I can't find any of them. Not even Virgil, who is allergic to waking up before noon.
I call Patton's phone and hear it ringing in Virgil's room. That wouldn't be weird if there was someone in there, but there isn't. All there is is a knocked-over mirror, the glow from it, a potted succulent- wait. A glowing mirror?
I walk over to it. The only glowing mirror I've heard of is from Sleeping Beauty, and Shrek, both of which I can relate to. I am a sleeping beauty, and I have layers of skin. I am not an ogre, and I will boil your spinal fluid if you ever say so.
I examine the mirror. Nothing strange, just a stand-alone rectangle, with wood backing, and a single scratch. Good workmanship, but nothing special to warrant a glow.
I stare into it, mesmerized. It looks silvery at first, but as I keep looking, dark colors begin to mix in. Soon, it glows black, and (like sleeping beauty) I'm drawn to it. I reach a hand out and touch it. My hand slides along the cool glass, and I'm disappointed. I tap it once, on instinct, and when I touch it again, my hand goes straight through. Lovely. I have no idea what's on the other side, but it calls me. (flash to Moana)
I take a second to think, and text Emile.
Sleepboi: Going after the other sides. They weren't home.
Thatsexytherapist: I'm coming
Sleepboi: ok
I sigh and put away my phone. And then I change my mind.
I pull my phone back out and shoot one more text.
Sleepboi: Bring coffee
Thatsexytherapist: already am
I love him so much.
He shows up a few minutes after and hands me the coffee, which is gone in about 2 seconds flat.
"Alright babes, let's go!"
"You're seriously going into a portal with no plan, and no thought?"
"Yeah, let's go!"
He grabs my collar. "Plan."
"Fiiiiine."
He lets go of my shirt, and I say "Plan, I go in, you wait. I pop out in a second to tell you if it's safe, and if I don't, I'm probably dead."
He just sighs, which I take as a yes. I jump through the portal.
It's dark. There's a streetlamp on the corner, and it gives just enough illumination to outline the place.
There's a dark road, lined with benches, twisted and black. The streets are filthy, but with a little cleaning, this place would look like a Tim Burton wonderland.
I take a second to look around before I pop my head through the portal. "Come on it, the water's fine!"
Emile laughs and follows me through.
He sees where we end up, and he says "This place is the Dark Side."
I'm confused. "How do you tell?"
"The aura is troubled."
"Alright, Otho."
He just rolls his eyes.
"This place could use some work."
"Do you see anything that could lead us to the sides?"
His face looks disappointed.
"No."
We walk down the street, and I start to feel the effect of the Dark Side. I'm a neutral side, and Emile is a character that Thomas embodies, so we have nowhere near the effect any light sides would. Oh god, if they're here... nothing good could have happened.
Just as I'm thinking this, a maniac side runs by, brutally attacking everything.
He scoops up a handful of concrete, and when he tosses it into the air, it explodes. He's laughing.
"He seems... nice."
"He could also be our best bet for info." I sigh, and Emile calls for him.
"Sir?"
He turns around, a strange light in his eyes, and a manic grin on his face. He has a black formal suit with a blood-red sash, almost the color of dried blood, with rusty hints.
He's got a slight goatee, (really just fuzz) and a tiara sits on his head.
"Yes, dears?" His voice is raspy, crackly, and rusty.
For whatever reason, he holds himself like Roman, and I think he may be a cousin of Remus or something.
"We were wondering if you might know the location of some Light Sides."
"No", he cackles. "You'll find no Light Sides here."
"Thanks, babes."
He winces. "You remind me of someone. Do I know you?"
"No. I have never seen you before."
Suddenly, a teal blade is at my throat.
"Liar. I know your voice." He laughs. "Liar, liar, pants on fire. Run your mouth until it's tired, tell me how your brain is wired, or you'll find your life... retired."
For the record, I came up with that, if it is from something, I do not know.
I have never seen him before. Maybe if I knew his name... or trait?
"What is your trait?"
"Hello, I'm Ruin. Who are you?"
"I'm Sleep."
"Why is that familiar?" He seemed to draw in on himself.
"Now, tell me who your friend over here is."
"That is my husband, Emile."
"You love him?"
"Yes."
"Love is a weakness. Prepare to die."
"You bitch!" This came from Emile, the normally lighthearted persona.
"Ah, I like him."
"Love is a strength, not a weakness, and you do not talk to him that way, or I will cut off your fingers and shove them down your throat!"
"Suuure. You wouldn't. But would you?" He almost murmurs that last part.
"Doesn't matter. I will destroy you."
I'm swept into memory, back when we were all kids.
"I will destroy you!" little Roman, only a few years old.
"That's my job!" Remus yells, chasing after me.
The red sash. It couldn't be "Roman?"
He blinks at me. "Who's that?"
"Sorry, just a crazy thought. When was your earliest memory?"
"A few hours ago, why?"
"I believe you may be a friend. Please follow me, babes."
"No."
"Yes."
He presses the blade to my neck a little harder. "No."
Emile snatches the ax. He grabs Ruin/Roman(? ) by the arm and pulls him to the mirror.
"Touch it."
Ruin does, and his clothes are swapped with Roman's.
"How-What-Where-Why-What?"
"Bitch, what happened?"
He frowns. "I was with Deceit, and then it was black, and now you're here and... where's Virgil?"
"We don't know."
"We're going to find out."
He smiles. "Hell yeah, we are."
