Chapter 28: My Letter

Dear Mom,

I honestly can't believe that I am writing to you. I probably should have been writing to you this whole time like dad but I swore he was wasting his time.

I guess I can start by telling you about the shooting. After the boxing tournament I was questioned by police about the dance incident. I was able to tell everyone what happened. James ended up getting arrested thanks to Aubrey witnessing the incident. I got in a lot of trouble for fighting those two kids. I didn't face any jail time because Aubrey testified on my behalf because they were harassing her.

Brooke and Erin also took the stand for me to speak about all the time the guys tried to bully them. They told everyone how safe they felt around me. They went out of their way to build a positive character for me in court.

You were right, those girls really are amazing. I still keep in contact with them even though I am in college. They are all still good friends and they occasionally meet up at Dad's house when I come to town.

I don't talk to Ky any more. He ended up becoming Coach Reynolds's new champion. There is a high chance he will become a professional boxer now. We don't keep in touch as much as I thought we would.

Dad said he crossed over into the dark side, and he isn't worth the drama. I feel a little used, that I unknowingly got caught up in his boyfriend drama. He used me as an intimidating factor. This all could have been prevented if he went for someone who was more open about his sexuality but what do I know.

Dad seems to be more chill. He doesn't talk about you so much. Maybe he still does and it no longer bothers me.

He doesn't pester me about boxing anymore. He is fully invested in my weightlifting. He is so bad at it though. It is like teaching a child sometimes. I am doing my best to take care of him.

I feel silly writing to you, but I promise to try my best with keeping up with them. It won't be as much as dad. I am aiming for holidays and birthdays mostly.

Anyway, no need to stress over me. I am doing a lot better and I am still working on my anger.

I don't know how to end one of these. I love you. Hopefully I won't see you too soon.

Ty aka Junior.

I gave my letter to my dad.

"Can I read it?" My dad asked.

"I read all of yours." I informed him.

"You weren't supposed to." My dad said with a laugh as he placed the note in the suitcase with the others. "Do you think this is a fire hazard?"

I couldn't help but laugh. Even if I said yes he wouldn't get rid of them. Maybe these letters weren't such a bad thing. We finally have something in common and I am so glad it isn't boxing.
