Miles understood half of what was said during the argument between Shane, Rick, and Daryl. The one thing she fully understood was that they were going back into the city to find Merle.

Miles watched as Daryl grabbed his arrow, preparing himself to leave with Rick.

"So you and Daryl, that's your big plan?" Lori asked Rick, not happy he was returning to the city.

Rick turned and looked at Glenn, hoping he would help.

"Oh, come on," Glenn whined.

"You know the way. You've been there before... in and out, no problem. You said so yourself. It's not fair of me to ask, I know that, but I'd feel a lot better with you along. I know she would too," Rick pointed at Lori.

"That's just great. Now you're gonna risk three men, huh?" Shane was angry.

"Four," T-Dog adds.

"My day just gets better and better, don't it?" Daryl huffs. "Well, if you four are going then I want Miles to come. She's the only one I trust watching my back," Daryl turns to Miles who was watching Max play with Carl and Sophia.

"You want to risk her life? Daryl she can't hear a thing," Shane shook his head.

"She knows what she's doing. Her and that dog. I trust 'em with my life," Daryl defended Miles. He whistled to get Max's attention, which worked, causing him to run towards Daryl. Miles's eyes followed Max to Daryl. "You coming with me, right?" Daryl asked, slowly, making sure Miles could read his lips.

"You want me to go?" Miles asked. Daryl nodded once and waited for her to respond. "Okay," Miles smiled, glad she could leave the camp for a while.

"You're putting every single one of us at risk. Just know that, Rick. Come on, you saw that walker. It was here. It was in camp. They're moving out of the cities. They come back, we need every able body we've got. We need'em here. We need'em to protect camp." Shane tried to convince Rick but Rick wasn't budging.

"It seems to me what you really need most here are more guns," Rick said, looking around the camp.

"Right, the guns," Glenn remembered Rick dropping a bag in the middle of the street before getting into the tank.

"What guns?" Shane asked.

While Rick was explaining to the camp what was in the bag and the plan, Miles was in her own little world. She couldn't believe that after all this time, she was finally going back into the city. Miles wondered what the city looked like after all this time. Is it as bad as Glenn said?

Miles clapped once for Max, who immediately came to her. If she was going into the city, she had to be prepared.

Miles doesn't know if Max understands her when she signs but she's pretty sure he picks up most of it. Either way, she still signs to Max like she's talking to a person.

"When we go to the city, protect Daryl. We are there to help him find his brother. I don't want anything happening to him, okay? He's the only friend I have, besides you," Miles patted Max on the head and walked towards the truck where the rest of the group is.

Miles, being a small woman, eyed the height of the back of the truck. She was thinking of how to climb into it. Right when she was about to put her right foot up onto the platform, Daryl grabs her arm. Miles looks to him to see what he wanted.

"Lemme help," He muttered. Daryl grabs Miles waist and lifted her up into the back of the truck. He looked down to see if Max needed help but the dog just slowly backed up. He then ran and jumped into the back, joining Miles.

Miles was shocked by Daryl's actions. Never has he helped her before or touched her. Miles didn't know how she felt by this.

"Alright then," Daryl said to himself. "Let's go!" Daryl banged on the side of the truck, signaling for Rick to stop his conversation with Shane.

Daryl sat next to Miles and patted her shoulder, his way of saying ''thank you' to the girl. Miles looked up at him and smiled. With all that he's done for her, she would do anything for him, no question asked.

"Are you going to be okay out there?" Daryl asked Miles, making sure she was looking at him before he spoke.

"I can handle it," Miles replied, confident in her words. She knows she can handle anything life throws her. She's been doing it since she was born.

"You're a tough girl," Daryl nodded to her. He didn't understand why everyone in the group doubted Miles because she's Deaf. When Daryl first met her, he didn't know she couldn't hear. It wasn't until Merle kept catcalling her when he figured it out. Daryl thought Miles was ignoring Merle but after a while, he noticed that she had no reaction to anything and when she did it was because someone scared her by not making vibrations around her.

From that day on, Daryl kept an eye on the girl. Intrigued by how she lived everyday with no hearing. He liked that she was independent unlike some of the women at camp. She liked to hunt for her own food, take walks in the forest, and spend time with her Husky. She didn't care what the other thought of her. Miles cared for them but also cared for herself, never asking for help.

Not realizing it, the camp owed her. She did so much for them without them noticing but Daryl noticed. He always does.
