Chapter 19
"Darrell." The tall bearded man nods as he shakes Tim's hand. "Dead Town? As in, everyone is dead here?"
"Deader than a doornail." Austin says.
"Like really dead?" The small girl asks as she and Darrell exchange glances.
"I'm afraid so." Tim says with a nod.
"Wow. I never in a million years thought that it would be like this." Darrell says as he looks around the saloon.
"So what happened? Why were there so many people with you?" Chance asks.
"We were at a nightclub with several friends. There were two rival gangs there and they got into a big fight. A lot of shooting." Darrell answers. "Several people were shot. And from the looks of it, we were amongst the ones that were shot."
"And your name is?" Tim asks, turning to the small girl.
"Sami." She smiles slightly and nods.
"Boy. Y'all sure taking this better than I did." Nate says shaking his head.
"You people look so normal. Nothing like I thought dead people look like." Sami says as she glances around at everyone.
"What did you expect us to look like? Zombies?" Avi asks.
"Honestly? Yes." Sami says.
"So what happens now? And who are all you guys?" Darrell asks.
"Well, like I said before, I'm Tim and this here is my boyfriend Adam." Tim says before pointing to the others and telling the newcomers their names.
"So, uh, are y'all a couple?" Jenika asks as she bites her bottom lip as she looks at Darrell.
"No." Darrell shakes his head. "We're just good friends." Sami nods in agreement.
"And the answer to your other question about what we do now is nothing." Tim says as he walks over to a table and sits down, pulling Adam down in his lap.
"Nothing? Sounds easy enough." Darrell chuckles as he sits down at the same table.
"You said Dead Town. So this is a whole town? I was too scared to look earlier when we were running from those things. But there are other buildings?" Sami says as she too sits down.
Tim only nods his answer as the others pull up chairs to join them.
"Yeah, there are several buildings. We actually stay over at the hotel." Chance answers as he sits down beside her. "We each have a room. The whole town looks like an old western town. And we are the residents."
"We were just over here at the saloon having a party. It gets a little boring here." Chris adds.
"Speaking of those things, what the hell are they?" Darrell asks.
"Those are the reason that you don't go out after dark." Adam says. "You see what happens if you do."
"Those are demon dogs from Hell. They come out only at night looking for souls to drag down to Hell." Tim says.
"Are we safe in here?" Sami asks as she glances around at Chance.
"Yeah, all the buildings are safe. For some reason, they won't come in." Chance answers.
"So." Tim says as he lights himself a cigarette. "Just sit back and relax. We still have a few hours of darkness left. If you have any questions don't be afraid to asks."
"What do y'all do for excitement or to just pass the time?" Darrell says as he looks around, once again, at the saloon.
"Plenty of sex." Tim chuckles as he takes a puff from his cigarette.
"What?!" Sami laughs.
"Oh. My. God. Tim!" Adam says as he covers his face.
"Okay?" Darrell chuckles and shakes his head. "I appreciate your honesty."
"Well, we don't eat, sleep or drink so what else is there to do." Avi laughs.
"Oh, you're not hearing any complaints from me." Darrell says as he quickly gives an unnoticed glance at Jenika.
They sit and chat with the newcomers finding out more about them. The newcomers were finding out more information on the residents as well.
"Sun is coming up." Tim says as he lightly pats Adam on the hip. A way of telling him to get up. "Guess it's safe to show you guys your new home."
"Are you sure it's safe to go out?" Sami asks with worry on her face.
Tim opens his mouth to speak but Chance beats him to it.
"Yeah, it's safe. They leave the minute the sky starts to lighten up." Chance smiles.
Tim smirks as he takes Adam by the hand and heads toward the door.
"Wow, you weren't lying when you said it was a whole town." Darrell says as they walk out into the street. "And you guys are the only ones here?"
"Yep." Kevin answers as they all begin to follow Tim and Adam down the street.
"Any one of these buildings provide safety from those demons if it starts to get dark before you can get back to the hotel." Austin says.
"But during the day, you can roam all over town." Olena says.
Tim stops walking and turns around to face Darrell and Sami.
"BUT. Don't go past the edge of town. We don't know what's out there or what might happen to you." Tim states before he resumes the walk to the hotel.
"What is he? Is he kinda like your leader or something?" Darrell whispers to Jenika.
"You might say that." Jenika giggles. "Tim has been here a lot longer than the rest of us and knows a lot more. As a matter of fact, he practically saved us all except for Nate. Nate managed to get inside of a building."
"Oh, okay. So in other words, it would be wise to listen to whatever he says." Darrell smiles.
"Exactly." She laughs.
"This is home sweet home." Tim says as they walk upon the wooden porch of the hotel.
"Wow, this place is totally cool." Sami says as she takes in the interior of the old hotel.
"Uh, Chance? Why don't you and Jenika show our new residents to their rooms." Tim says with a slight smirk.
"What's going on in that head of your's?" Adam asks quietly as he slides his arms around his boyfriend's waist, pulling him closer.
"Uhhh, which head?" Tim chuckles as Adam smacks him in the chest.
"You know which head I'm talking about. Gees!" Adam laughs and rolls his eyes.
"You'll see." Tim says as he kisses the blond on the nose.
"If you need anything, I'm just across the hall." Chance says as he closes Sami's door behind him.
"If you need anything, just holler." Jenika smiles as she walks out of Darrell's room closing the door behind her.
"We need to talk." They say at the same time. Chance chuckles as he leads Jenika into his room.
They both sit down on the bed and stare at the floor in front of them. Neither wanting to be the first to talk.
"Okay? I guess I'll start." Chance smiles nervously. "Uh, how do you see our relationship?"
"Honestly? Friends with benefits." Jenika answers with apologetic eyes.
(Whew)"Thank God." Chance chuckles as he wipes his forehead.
"You too? Oh, my God." Jenika laughs laying a hand on her chest.
"Would it be alright if we just drop the benefits part? I'm really interested in that Sami girl." Chance grins. "And if I'm not mistaken, I swear I saw Darrell checking you out a couple of times."
"Was he really?" Jenika grins, her eyes lighting up. "He is soooo hot."
Chance laughs and shakes his head and then extends his hand.
"Friends?" He asks with a raised brow.
"Friends." Jenika smiles and shakes his hand.
