Chapter 1

Avery drove through the gate into their gated community. After that, they turned up onto a corner of the street and drove up onto the driveway of the place. Audrey peered through the window of their vehicle, froze a second as her eyes narrowed onto a Hummer parked outside of the curve. Carpi, she thought to herself, no it couldn't be. The last time they had seen each other was before she disappeared without a warning. She didn't know much about what she did, only that she had one time she had been an agent for Mossad, or was it the CIA or MI6?

She leaped out of the vehicle, closing the door behind and made her up to the door. The door was ajar as they walked in slowly into the stylish interior of their home. There was nobody inside, which was strange, but the back door had been opened a bit. She headed out through the back door into the back and froze Capri, standing in the shadows of trees.

"Audrey, I need you and Avery's help please. I'm in deep trouble. My past has come back... I don't know... What to do?"... she said, walking back and forth. Her silver Desert Eagle was holstered in her tactical mini-wig.

Audrey rubbed her chin as she shrugged, looking over at Avery before she spoke." The last time we saw you. You disappeared without warning and now you want our help,"she yelled.

"You know that I can't explain that to you and Avery. I wouldn't be here if I didn't help. But these people are very dangerous and powerful," she told them.

Avery stalked outside, heading over to Audrey and stood there, his eyes narrowed on her weapon. "Why should we bother helping you tell me that?"

Capri sighed as she took a deep breath as she chose her words carefully. "Ryder Draven."

Audrey tossed the letter down on the asphalt as the veins in her neck throbbed and snarled. "What aren't you telling us now?" Listen, if this about the letter we found out on the stack of books at the bookstore, we have to know."

"You don't want anything to do with Draven," she stated blankley, as her dark blue eyes scanned the big open space while her ears listened for anything out of the ordinary.

"Who's this Ryder Draven, Avery inquired in a suspicious tone, trying to figure out what really was going on?

Carpi tried to fight back the tears in her eyes as she bit her lip. "Listen, I haven't always been there for you guys. Now it's your turn and I need it badly."

It was hard for Audrey to see her best friend like this; They had been through a lot together throughout the years, ever since they had gone to the same University, while she had moved on after that Capri had gone her own, once in a while she would appear out of nowhere like a ghost. Avery had come into her life when she needed someone to be there for her.

Avery raised his eyebrow. " How can we trust you, Capri?"

There was a sudden change in Capri demeanor, hesitant in her speech. "I can't answer that.  let's just  say a freelance assignment sometime happened, I couldn't control-"

"I don't know what you did or even who you work," Audrey asked in a suspicious and skeptical tone, giving Capri the once over, and Pressed on. "  What is it that you need help with."

Leaves crackled in the distance,   a gust blew through the trees Capri tensed before she spoke. " If I tell you it will put you and Avery in more danger...she sprinted around the house and headed over  to her Hummer.

Capri glanced sideways into her rearview mirror to see if she was being tailed, she hated doing this to her friend, but couldn't be helped, she tried to recall what happened on the mission ,but everything was a blur to her and all that she could remember was that she had been in Tel Aviv meeting with Mossad handler about a clandestine operation in France. How had Draven tracked down her friends? She thought to herself?

Audrey snatched up the letter  from the  pavement as she recalled the last part of it. Sometimes we will meet and everything will be made clear for you and your friends. Be Forewarned there is Danger and betrayal Ryder Draven. Nothing was making any sense to her now what had her friend suddenly dropped into?

"Avery, what are we going to do now? Should see where this letter takes us?" Audrey inquired, as she twisted the ring on her finger.

"We really don't know anything about this Ryder Draven or chance of a lifetime. What if this is all about Capri? I mean she said your past had come back and what the hell did that mean," Avery snapped.

"She never told me what she did for a living? She was always so secretive about it." She said with concern and confusion woven in every word

They walked back inside to the living room, closing the door behind them, Avery shrugged his shoulders as he titled his head, furrowed brow as he says. " My writer's block is getting worse, I sit at my desk in the den and stare at a blank screen. Maybe this chance of a lifetime is what we need."

From, her peripheral she saw a suspicious-looking envelope laying on the table. It read Great Island Giveaway contest. She immediately picked up the entry form  pulling it out and examined the name on it: Bishop Gatsby. Did Capri plant this here without her knowing?  She thought to herself. She grabbed a pen from the table, entered her name, Avery's and their friends name, she felt a tense of forbidden as she did it.

She slowly glanced back looking at the photograph of her and Capri together in Marseille there was something else that grabbed her attention. It was the Cargo ship in the background at the port there. She dropped the entry form and snatched up the photograph in the frame as she stared wide-eyed at it.

She placed the photograph back on the table, grabbing the entry and stuck back in the envelope heading out the door. Then she made her way over to their vehicle and slid in, closing the door behind her. She kept thinking about what Capri said to her about her past coming back. Did Capri  know Draven  somehow.

Right away, she flashed onto a memory: her and Capri at a shooting range. She was standing behind Capri, had pulled the trigger without hesitation.

Audrey arrived at the post office, stepped out and walked over to the mailbox. She opened it and tossed it there. She turned her as she glanced sideways and caught a black sedan driving by her slowly. Relax, she told herself,  you're getting too nervous. Capri making you nervous. She walked back over the vehicle, grabbing the door as she slid into the driver-seat. Turning down the corner, she saw that black sedan was nowhere to be seen.

She pulled up into the driveway as she parked and climbed out. Why had Capri come back into her after all this time? There was oblivious more to it than she ever know. Right now, she and Avery needed a vacation. She made her way up the sidewalk to the door and opened it, walking inside.

Avery paced  back and forth in front of his desk in the den while he pressed his fingers in a steeple. The first book was always the easiest to write. After that he'd given all his friends and family the Advance reader's copies before finally getting it published, but it was worth it. He rubbed his eyes, staring into space. He needed a brand new adventure for his main character, Brandon, and he was coming up blank, which was not for him.

She headed into the den, seeing her husband pace back and forth. Her eyes narrowed on the blank screen and she says. "Avery darling, relax. It will come to you. Plus, I entered us into a giveaway contest to win a trip to a tropical island, and it's what  we need. You need to unwind."

"Yes, that sounds nice and great,  I need to relax more," Avery replied, as he smiled at her knowing she was right.

They walked out of his den into the living still wondering if this contest was somehow connected to Capri and her past, what concerned them the most was that if these powerful and dangerous people were after her, then they would come after her friends meaning them. Nothing was what it really seemed with Capri in her world and with that brought danger to them, not knowing anything what she was up to?

Carpi sped through the streets of the city, a few minutes later arriving at her safe house. She needed to figure out what to do next, now that she had asked her friend for help. She'd gone over every detail of the mission in France in mind, to see if she could figure out what went wrong. As far as she could recall, she did everything exactly as her handler had told her. Stepping out of her Hummer, she closed the door behind her and made her way up to the entrance. She'd entered the passcode as the sensor turned green, she grabbed the door and  headed inside.
