Chapter 1

"Nozomi!” A white haired girl grinned as she jumped out of her bedroom window. The person yelling out to her had been her mother who clearly disapproved. Her disapproval wasn’t unwarranted either. Nozomi was not the healthiest of people to say the least, and her parents constantly worried over her. If it was up to them, they probably wouldn’t even let her out of the house. They had actually tried that. They homeschool her and everything, but Nozomi still manages to find some way or another to escape. Therefore, they’ve decided to give her a bit more freedom and will occasionally bring her out places, but that’s not enough for Nozomi. “Not again…”

“Did Nozomi jump out the window again?” The girl’s father sighed as he walked up to Nozomi’s doorway where her mother stood. He worried about Nozomi just as much as her mother, but he understood a bit better that she did even worse when she was cooped up.

Her mother, otherwise known as Fujikawa Miwa, nodded her head in exasperation with a concerned look etched on her face. “I know that there’s not much we can do to keep her from sneaking out, but I at least wish she would tell us where she goes.”

“I’m sure she’s not doing anything remotely dangerous.” Her husband, Fujikawa Rei, assured the woman with a smile. “She may be a bit reckless, but she’s a good girl. I’m sure she wouldn’t do anything that would give us a heart attack.”

Miwa gave another sigh as she let her head hang in defeat. “I’m sure you’re right…”

Oh, if only they knew.

At her fifteen years of age, Fujikawa Nozomi no longer planned on being cooped up and worried over every second anymore. Oh no, at the current moment, she was currently on her way to take an entrance exam for an actual school. And not just any school. She was about to take the entrance exam for U.A.’s Hero Course. If her parents knew, they would probably have a heart attack.

Hence why she didn’t tell them.

She was practically skipping as she entered the building, and she looked at every single little thing with awe. She had never been in a building so large nor with this many people. There seemed to be students coming from everywhere. She, admittedly, felt a bit out of place having no school uniform. Her pale complexion and seemingly frail figure gained a lot of attention from the other junior high students that had come to take the test. It’s not as though she wasn’t strong or anything. She worked out every day, and could fight fairly decent without her quirk. Either way, she still couldn’t help but shrink back at all the looks and comments she was receiving.

“Is that girl really taking the entrance exam for the Heroes Course?” She heard somebody whisper to some of his friends as she took a seat in the auditorium.

“She’s paler than anybody I’ve ever seen.”

“But she’s kinda cute, don’tcha think?” Nozomi blushed a little at that.

“She looks like she just got out of the hospital.”

That last statement actually wasn’t that inaccurate. Nozomi was always in and out of the hospital with her health condition. She had actually just gotten out of a week long stay at the hospital a few days prior. However, knowing that the whispers were right about her only made her that much more insecure.

Nozomi was glad when one of the teachers finally began to explain what they were supposed to be doing. She was, admittedly, a bit relieved when she heard that they would be fighting robots. She wasn’t sure she would want to fight anybody else just yet. She also wasn’t sure how other people would take her quirk in a battle. Nozomi was worried that people might begin to fear her if they found out about her quirk. After all, her quirk was unnatural. Anybody that ever saw her quirk refused to trust her out of fear, and she didn’t want to have that kind of start at this school.

UA was her way of starting fresh.

“Battle Center A, huh?” Nozomi stood in front of the large city-like structure after the teacher had explained everything. A sweat drop fell down her face as she noticed some of the others looking at her as though they were lucky. Though, in Nozomi’s eyes, just because they thought she wouldn’t do well, didn’t mean that they would do well.

“Alright!” Everyone looked up as they heard the same teacher from the auditorium speak up. “Start!”

Nozomi didn’t waste any time as she noticed that the gates were open. She and one other ran into the battle center with no hesitation while the others seemed a bit confused before the teacher yelled at them to get going. Glancing a bit at the other person that had ran in with her, she noticed a black haired boy with slight bags under his eyes. They weren’t overly prominent, but Nozomi could only assume that the boy didn’t get much sleep. Either that, or he got too much sleep. Unfortunately, the boy had noticed her stare as he sent a glance her way, which inevitably caused a small blush to erupt on her face.

Yeah... She ran away in the opposite direction after that.

It wasn’t long after that awkward eye contact that she ran into one of the robots that had been described in the auditorium. Unfortunately, it was only a one pointer, and Nozomi was able to easily crush it with her quirk. It flattened like a pancake with no force seemingly being placed on it. Nozomi quickly figured out that going around taking the robots out one by one was going to be too slow if she wanted to get a high score. It was already six minutes into the test, and she only had forty points. This clearly wasn’t good enough to her. Nozomi wasn’t going to accept anything but number one. She wanted to prove everybody wrong. She would prove that she could be a hero

“Hmm,” After a second of deliberation, she ended up scaling one of the buildings near the edge of the battle center. By the time she reached the top, she almost ended up falling as the ground rumbled. She almost paled at the sight of the large zero pointer that they had been warned about. It was no wonder why they had been warned to avoid it. And the others seemed to be taking that warning to heart as they ran away from it. Nozomi, however, quickly got over her fear as she realized it wouldn’t make much of a difference with what she was about to do.

She stood on the very edge of the building as she outstretched her hand. Nozomi was glad that she had chosen a building on the edge, so she had a view of the entire battle center. She was also sure that she was high enough that nobody would notice what she was about to do. Well, the teachers would probably be watching, but she didn’t mind that nearly as much. And finally, after taking a deep breath, she activated her quirk.

This was going to take a lot out of her.
