Piper's POV

The drive towards the Last City felt long as my nervousness was increasing. There were many things that I was nervous about going in this plan, but they seemed to circle around my brain the closer we got to WICKED. I was certain we were all worried, but showing our fear wasn't the best thing, not when we had come this far.

Once we arrived as close as we could get in a truck, we piled out and prepared for our walk into the lion's den. We grabbed our supplies, hiding them so that we blended in with other people. Of course, going into WICKED, we could only do so much.

I looked over at Gwyneth, who stumbled over, closing her eyes for a moment. "You okay, Gwyn?" I asked with concern.

She opened her eyes and looked at me, nodding her head. "Yeah, I'm fine."

I took her word for it, though, I made a mental note to keep an eye on her, just in case. Even Sonya and Aurora shot me odd looks, implying they noticed it, too.

"Alright, let's move," Jorge ordered. "We can't waste any more time."

We obliged and followed him.

Being outside the walls of the Last City was not how I expected it to be. There were people on the streets, looters, a chaos I wanted to avoid. It was nothing like the Scorch, where everything was deserted and abandoned. Nothing about this was empty or forgotten.

Through the clamoring, Jorge spoke up. "This place has really gone through hell!"

"We just gotta stay together!" Thomas replied.

"We are the voice of the voiceless!" someone's voice echoed throughout the streets from a radio, holding a walkie talkie up to his mouth. "They hide behind their walls, thinking they can keep the cure for themselves while they watch the rest of us wither and rot! But there are more of us than there are of them! And I say we rise up and take back what is ours! Let's bring back a victory!"

The crowd began to cheer as him and his friends rode up in a van, heading down the streets, rallying up as many people as possible.

"Let's keep moving!" Thomas shouted, leading the way this time.

"This is still a mad idea!" Maeve stated.

"We don't have much of a choice now!" I told her.

"Yeah, no turnin' back!" Gwyneth added.

We walked through tents and small tunnels, dodging people and avoiding any eye contact by keeping our heads low. We took small glances at each other, unsure of what to take in what we were seeing.

"That's it! That's our way in!" Thomas said, heading for the only entrance we found inside the city.

In between the walls was one door, reminding me of the walls from the Glen, just without a door in the middle of it.

"Thomas!" Jorge called out, catching up with him. "This is not what you're looking for! All these people trying to find their way in, you think you're gonna find something they can't?"

"Came this far! I'm not turning back now!" he protested.

I rubbed my neck, feeling a bit uneasy as we reached our destination. I knew something was wrong. That was when I looked up at the Berg-like object hovering over us in the sky. I swallowed hard and went on to getting up to the front of the crowd with the others.

"What the hell did we get ourselves into?" Frypan asked.

With people chanting over and over ("Let us in! Let us in!") and us shoving people to get out of our ways, we made it to the front, the trash people were throwing hitting me every once in a while.

"Thomas, this doesn't feel right!" Jorge said.

Nothing felt right anymore. Every plan and move we did was a risk, but what other choice was there?

"Hey, guys, we gotta go now! Look!" Newt said in a frantic tone as he pointed at people with masks and guns coming our way.

"Yeah, Thomas, we have to go!" Harriet agreed.

All of a sudden, a metallic creaking noise came from the walls, making all of us slowly turn back towards them. The protesting of the crowd died down. What looked like guns began to point down at us. Then, the crowd behind us began to run, and when we just about did the same...

BOOM!

"We gotta go now!" Aurora yelled as we all made a run for it.

BOOM!

Smoke and dirt filled the air around us, the bodies flying and dropping everywhere.

BOOM!

With the guns still going off all over, I did my best to recognize a familiar face. Sonya's blonde hair stood out to me, so I did everything I could to catch up with her. When we headed back through one of the spaces in between buildings, we were ambushed by the people with masks and guns.

"Get off of me!" I yelled as I tried to kick our way out of their grasp, along with my friends.

I was shoved into a van with Sonya and Aurora, along with other guards sitting across from us. Next thing we knew, the van began to drive off.

"Where are you taking us?" I asked them. None of them answered me. "Where are our friends?" Still no answer. I huffed a sigh in annoyance. "No answers. That's sticking nice."

The drive was quick, yet the stares we were getting from the guards made it seem like it was longer. The three of us looked at each other with annoyance. It was tiring, always having to run away from someone.

Suddenly, the van slammed on brakes, and the doors slid open. "Get out!" one of them yelled at us.

We got out as quickly as we could, being reunited with the others. At the van next to us, we could hear the grunting and pounding as the van shook in place. Then, a guard came tumbling out, with Jorge jumping on top of him. "Where are they, you son of a bitch?!" he yelled, pounding on the guard.

"Hey! Hey! Hey!" Brenda and Aurora shouted, running towards him.

We all followed, but the guards held us back, pointing their guns at us.

"We're right here!" Brenda and Aurora kept on screaming until Jorge finally looked up and saw them.

"Everybody, calm down. We're all on the same side here," one of the guards assured us.

"What do you mean, same side? Who the hell are you?" Thomas asked, sounding angry.

The guard looked down and sighed before taking off his mask and revealing his face. He shot Thomas a calm expression, though his eyebrows looked furrowed. "Hey, Greenie."

Thomas's face grew bitter. "Gally?"

"No way," Frypan whispered.

Next thing we knew, Thomas lunged for Gally, throwing a punch on his face. Gally fell to the ground as Thomas bent down to give Gally more of his fist. We tried yelling at Thomas to stop, but some of the guards held us back again, while more of them had their guns pointed at Thomas.

"Guys, it's okay!" Gally assured them.

Newt and Frypan were the only ones that went over and stopped him. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Stop! Stop it!"

Thomas' breath became shaky. "He killed Chuck."

"Yeah, I know," Newt said. "I remember. I was there, too, all right? But I also remember that he was stung by a Griever and half out of his mind. Just calm down, all right? Calm down."

It took Thomas a moment, resisting the urge to throw in one more blow to Gally's face, but he finally listened to Newt and shot back up.

Gally got back on his feet as he moved his jaw. "Kind of had that coming." He looked around at us. "Anybody else? Fry? Newt?"

"You know this guy?" Jorge asked the boys.

"He was an old friend," Frypan replied.

Newt shook his head in shock. "How? How is this possible? We watched you die."

"No, you left me to die," Gally corrected him. "And if we hadn't found you when we did, you'd be dead right now?" He paused, looking at Thomas. "What the hell are you doing here?"

"Minho," Newt answered. "WICKED has him here. We're looking for a way in."

"They have one of our friends as well," I spoke up. "Lillie's her name."

Gally eyed us. "Who are you girls?"

"We came from another Maze," Harriet told him. "A Maze full of girls and one boy."

It was in that moment that Gally seemed to know who we were. "In the Glen?"

Confused, we all nodded our heads. "How do you know that's what we called it?" I asked.

He raised his eyebrows. "I guess there's more reunions to go around." He turned his head as a girl in a mask walked up, standing beside Gally.

She took it off and with her evil smirk, we knew exactly who it was. "What's up, sticks? Did you miss me?"

I couldn't believe what I was seeing as my blood began to slowly boil: Beth was alive.

"Beth," Gwyneth breathed, trying to find the words of seeing her former friend alive. "You're...you're alive..."

"Yeah, looks like Maeve's aim was terrible," she retorted, shooting a glare towards Maeve.

Maeve's anger began to show. "Give me your gun and I can try again."

"How about you let me try?" I suggested.

"Right, as if you have the guts to kill anyone, stick," Beth told me, letting out a laugh.

"A lot has changed since we left the Glen," I told her.

"Oh, I'm sure, but I'm assuming your hatred for me is still the same," she retorted.

"Got that right." She killed Rachel. Of course I still didn't like her.

"Okay, I think that's enough," Gally stepped in, sounding firm, making us shut our mouths. He turned back towards Thomas. "I can help with a way in. Follow me." He began to walk away from us, turning his body.

"I'm not going anywhere with you," Thomas said firmly, standing his ground.

"Suit yourself," he replied. "But I can get you through those walls."

Thomas eyed him suspiciously and Beth couldn't help but raise her eyebrows. "Don't tell me you're taking them to Lawrence."

Gally looked at Beth with a serious look. "If anyone can help them get through those walls it's him."

Beth sighed. "Well, you go take them to see him, then. I prefer to not get on his bad side." She turned back to one of us. "I want Gwyneth to stay with me."

Gwyneth raised her eyebrows in surprise. "What? Why?" she asked, confused.

"I want to talk to you," Beth answered.

"Gwyn, you don't have to talk to her if you don't want to," I whispered.

"Hey, Newbie, you've had her all this time. Maybe I'd like to see my friend now," Beth snapped.

Gwyneth put her hand on my shoulder. "Piper, it's okay." She motioned Beth to come her way, then the two headed off to a private area.

Gally scanned his eyes at the rest of us. "Come on, then."

With curious yet worried looks on our faces, Thomas reluctantly followed Gally, and we strolled behind him.

A/N: Yup, Beth's back. Isn't that great?

She's not listed in the cast since I wanted it to be a surprise, but in case you forgot, she's portrayed by Chloe Bridges!

Song is Warriors by Imagine Dragons.

Comment, vote, it's gonna get good soon!
