Adelaide Merkwelle always had a smile on her face, she was a happy girl. She had the perfect friends and what seemed to be the perfect family. She was rich and pretty and what everyone in Derry wanted to be. She was happy. But the scars on her wrist said different.

Behind the painted portraits of the Merkwelle family was a drunk father, a mother who wanted the picture-perfect daughter, and the son who already tried to be the perfect son. The Merkwelle family was stuck in Derry's tragedies. The death of Adelaide's older sister back when she was 9, trapped her parents in a never ending cycle of pain.

There was a lot hidden behind her beautiful smile. A lot Derry couldn't see.

But she was grateful for what she did have, her friends.
