Chaper 2

I shift around in the comfy covers, all my worries gone. Wait, what? I thought I was for sure dead.

I slowly open my eyes, but close them when a bright light is shining right in my face. I groan and lift my arm to cover my eyes.

I shift some more and start moving my legs, but a sharp pain shoots up my right leg. The memories of yesterday come rushing in and so does a headache.

I move my arm and open my eyes once again. Where am I?

I look around and see a bright light above me. I was in a white room, dressed in white clothes. Everything was white from the bed to the couches to the walls. There was a white lamp sitting on a table next to my bed. The only thing that wasn't white was a big round camera in the ceiling corner.

My eyebrows furrow. Who's watching me? I start feeling uneasy and decide to take a look at my leg.

Somebody bandaged it, but there's blood oozing through the bandage. Am I infected? I know once the dead bites you, you turn, but I wasn't sure about what happens when they scratch you.

No, I can't be. I need to find my brother. He's the only thing keeping me going.

Besides the scratches on my leg, I was bruised all over my body and sore. The fall didn't hurt anything important or break anything, it just bruised me.

Who helped me get away from the dead? They were all around me, who could've killed all of them that fast and why?

Questions swirl around my head, making my headache worst.

I take the covers off and they fall to the white tiled floor. The couch in the corner of the room isn't doing much. I don't know why it's there, nobody is occupying it. But yet again, I don't know much about this place at all.

I slowly get off the bed, as much as it hurts I make my way to the door. A white door with a small circle window is occupying the room.

I take a peek outside and see nothing.

"Let me out of here, bastards!" I scream at the camera. I'm going crazy. I need to get out of here.

I take the white glass lamp and throw it at the window.

The window shatters and glass goes everywhere. A loud alarm goes off and the room starts flashing red and white.

"This is not a drill. Please make your way to your rooms, I repeat this is not a drill." A voice keeps repeating over the sirens.

I grab a shard from the window and squat down by the door and wait for somebody to come.

Minutes pass until finally, the alarms stop.

The door opens and I make a quick move to stab the person.

I stab right into their leg and they scream. It's a woman.

"Help! Help!" The lady screams and pushes a button on the outside.

I push her out of the way and run outside.

I don't pay attention to my surroundings and run like a madman.

I run as far as I can until a gate stops me. What is this?

A hand touches my shoulder and I jump back, startled.

"Hello, Elya. Please, come with us." I turn around and see a old man looking to be around 50.

"No! Let me out of here!"

"I'm afraid I cannot do that until we assure you are healed."

"What are y-" he takes something out and the next thing I know, I've passed out.

"Jake! Put on the news now!"

"Oh my god, no! You do it you lazy piece of shit." I ignore my brothers rude words and rush to turn on my tv. It couldn't have reached here, not yet!

I turn on the tv to be greeted with a warning.

"The Dead has taken over. It has spread all through the US and cannot be contained. Please, go to one of the safe sanctuaries located in Illinois. Illinois is the only place where it is safe."

"Jake! Mom! Come here, look at the news." My brother comes in as the same message repeats itself, but my mom is nowhere to be seen.

"No way! It's zombies! That's so wicked."

"Where is mom?"

"I don't know, she's probably still sleeping, it's 8 in the morning, way too early for a weekend if you ask me."

"Well I wasn't asking you. Do you know what this means Jake? We aren't safe here anymore. We need to get to Illinois as soon as possible. Come here and look at this." I turn to the window and show him how our neighborhood looks now, "we need to get to Illinois, it's the only place where it's safe. We all need to leave. I'm going to go get mom, you get whatever we might need."

I wake up in the same white room, but the door is closed and there is no blood on the floor from the woman I'd stabbed.

Sitting in the couch was the same man from earlier.

I calm myself, wanting to act like a normal human being again.

"Where am I?"

"You're in a sanctuary. We have food, shelter and people. We have all come together to fight against the zombies."

"Zombies?"

"Yes, that is what we call the infected." I haven't heard the word zombies in a while, not since I watched all those zombie shows and movies.

"How did you save me?"

"We have been following you for awhile now. We have been following you ever since you came back to Californa. We seen you have potential, you are good at killing the infected and we need more of that here. Here, you will be safe. Follow me, let me show you around." Cautiously, I follow outside and I take a look around.

It's just like how it used to be, it looked just like a normal neighborhood. Rows of houses and stores stood in place. People were chattering and walking with friends. It's almost like nothing ever happened.

"Where am I?"

"You're still in California, it's a few blocks away from your neighborhood, actually. We call it Appensville, that was the name from before everything happened. Would you like to see where you can live?" I nod my head urgently, already loving the place.

We walk down a few houses until he stops at a big blue house.

"This is where you will be living, if you would like. Of course, you can always leave, but who would want to?"

I walk into the house and see a girl sitting on the couch. She turns to me.

"Get out of my house, bitch."

Do you think the book is moving too fast? I don't know, is it kind of weird she is in a sanctuary the second chapter? I'm not too sure.
