Dead or Alive

She lay on a bed of white cotton, wearing clothes the hospital had given her. She had lain on that bed for 5 months now and she hadn't woken up. She was in a coma, but for how much longer no one knew. The members of her pack stood guard, watching over her. Hopping she'd wake. They needed her. It hurt them to see her like this, weak and fragile. They needed her to make them laugh; she had always been the joker of the group. She had this laugh that was loud and obnoxious and made you want to laugh with her, even if the joke wasn't funny.

Her family would come to see her twice a week, sometimes three if they where not too busy with school or working to pay off the medical bills. They use to come everyday, like her pack, but the family, of now seemingly 5, couldn't bare it. Everyone seemed to need her, but no one was willing to admit it. Her boyfriend would sit beside her and hold her hand, begging her to show any sign of waking, but none came. He'd sit there for hours. At one point he just sat there for a whole two days and had to be removed by force so that he could eat and sleep as he had done none of that in that time.

Slowly, it seemed the hours turned to days, the days into months, the months into years. Every second she lay non-moving, non-responsive. Will looked upon the peaceful face of his girlfriend. It broke his heart thinking that she may never wake, that he may never hear her sweet voice, never hear her amazing laugh ever again. He wished to ever god that he know, both new and old, that she would pull through and wake up. He wished he had not asked her to go for a ride on the quad bike he got for his birthday. He wished they had not gone so deep into his parents property, along the trail made by himself and his father. The tail that had very little, if not no phone reception.

He had said that it was going to be fun and that the trail was safe, even after all the heavy rain and the flash flooding which had battered the family property causing untold amounts of damage to the land and to the man-made structures that dotted the landscape. He should have paid attention when Dana had fearfully exclaimed that it didn't feel right, that she was scared, that she wasn't sure that the trail looked safe. If only he had, then she wouldn't have to be in the hospital attached to wires, tubes, monitors and machines that beeped, chirped, dripped and flashed endlessly around her. She was barely hanging on. Barely human. Barely alive.

Belle, the alpha of the pack, paced back and forth, like she did every time she came to watch over Dana, her closest and dearest friend. Belle wished beyond belief that she could simply shake Dana and she'd awaken and they could write it off as some creeps messed up, poorly executed and exceptionally bad joke, but that was not to be the case.

River, the smallest, youngest and quietist pack member would never really came to see Dana, as she'd break down in endless fits of tears or she would just scream at Will if he was there and tell him off for not listening to his girlfriend. River would have to be removed on both occasions due to the fact that she was very loud for someone so small and quiet.

Scarlet and Kari, both higher ranking than River, stood on guard at the door. They too would break down and cry endless streams of tears when they thought no one was watching. They couldn't except the fact that their best friend lay in Hospital in a deep coma. Everything seemed to be lost, Belle had lost a member of her pack, Will had lost his mate, River, Scarlet and Kari all had lost a dear friend.

Dana was taken off life support and deemed dead after being in a coma for a year and 12 days.

Her funeral came and went, tears of anguish flowed and words of comfort, admiration, love and respect were spoken. Will cried himself to sleep the night after the funeral. He felt like someone had removed his heart and left a giant empty void in his chest where his heart was meant to be. He felt as though he was in a dream. A dream of which he was unable to escape from or influence. Will felt as though he may never love again.

Weeks have past since the funeral and Will could be trusted to be found alone in his room everyday, when he was not attending grade 12. He'd cry, mop, question, ponder and stare endlessly. His parents were worried and heartbroken to see their only son so low. They had tried plenty of times to cheer Will up, but it was in vain. So they just left him be and he'd cry until there were no tears left to cry. He felt lost, broken, weak, hollow and dead.
Will would sometimes walk to Dana's grave and sat in front of it, crying. Almost all his tears where for his lost love.
Most where of the feelings that had started to grow and fester in his mind, body and soul. All of which where attached to a seed that devoured everything that was good in his life and left him feeling empty inside. Will was horrified of the thing that had started to grow within him. He wanted it gone, but he could feel that it was there to stay.

For now.

Thank you for reading! I hope you liked it! XD
The original (which I wrote) is a lot shorter and has a heap more spelling, grammar, etc. errors than this one.
I have another two that I have yet to rewrite, so if you find anything in this one that you think I could fix up/work on/improve, please let me know!!
Feed back is essential to the bettering of ones abilities!

Thank you!!!
