5. OUVRE LES YEUX
ALAN TURING
1912 - 1954
On my quest to discover more about this incredible man called Alan Turing, I came across a multitude of articles. Many of them were titled as follows- ‘Gay Mathematician’ ‘Gay War Hero-’ And somewhere, between these two sentences, the problem with the society became stark naked in front of my eyes.
Alan Turing was the war hero of Great Britain during the Second World War. He was also the creator of the ‘Turing Machine’, which ultimately led to the modern-day computer. Perhaps, the most fascinating out of all was his contribution towards breaking the German Code ‘Enigma’.
Enigma was used by German troops to transmit radio signals, hence it was
a vital force in their army and a major strength for Germany. Rough estimates postulated that Turing’s contribution shortened the war by
several years. He also lay the groundwork for Artificial Intelligence, one of the most prolific computer science branches today.
After a career studded with singularly spectacular achievements, he was
convicted and sentenced to probation. He was convicted for ‘Gross indecency,’ effectively stripping all the honours that he had received. After witnessing a great career downfall due to his inability to return to America, it is believed that he took his own life.
His crime was that he was homosexual.
All his achievements aside, he was in fact, gay. Homosexuality during that time was a crime in Britain. Hence, he was ordered to undergo a year-long chemical castration course in order to curb his libido and in an attempt to convert him into heterosexual.
This, of course, is a method that has since then proven to be highly successful. Since 1954, with the help of chemical techniques, homosexuality has been eradicated. While we still have smaller issues such as cancer and the newer coronavirus, it is indeed humanity’s victory to have defeated one of the biggest evils of society today.
Love, after all, has always been a
concept rather difficult for us humans to grasp. It is indeed of paramount importance, that Adam and Steve should remain absolutely platonic.
Other issues such as trafficking, poverty, hunger, violence and diseases can be dealt with in the near future.

Forgive me for I went right off the track. That’s probably because it is hard for me to remain straight. Both in function and in theory. I am, however, trying to cure myself and follow the righteous path of heterosexuality. The cause of Turing’s death in 1954 remains to be a mystery. Many of course, ruled off the Cyanide poisoning as suicide citing various reasons. As for my personal beliefs, I do know that he was just a victim to the same deplorable and discriminatory policies that people fall prey to till today.
It is said that he inhaled the cyanide fumes and that it was merely an
accident. I think this is a cold trail that might be a little hard to follow. He
was also deemed to be ‘unstable.’ Perhaps since at that time homosexuality was considered merely a mental condition.
An interesting footnote would be a citation of Szondi’s Test. A psychological test to determine what sort of traits a person presents. The test considers portraits of several psychological patients ranging from schizophrenia, DID and homosexuality. Invalidating a group of people is not a choice. It is not an opinion. It is discrimination. When you stand by silently and do not raise your voice, you are not but an
enemy. Every time one stands by and watches such discrimination
unflinchingly, another Alan Turing is born only to be castrated and
murdered through the vile hands of society. What wonders could we have seen had he been alive? What other brilliant thoughts would we have
witnessed?
The onslaught of time will ravage us all. Brown. Black. White. Straight. Gay. Intersex. We all shall have a similar end. And between the grayscale ashes, will you be able to differentiate?
