1. EDITOR'S FIRST WORDS

Do you know what the colour of love is? What shapes and forms and sizes it comes in? Is it a physical quantity? Can you measure it? Can you buy it and sell it for commercial purposes? Is love a transaction? A mere attraction based on superficial qualities like my weight, or the colour of my hair?

"I don't believe in love. It's stupid. No one ever finds true love. It's all an act."

"I think love is the most beautiful thing to ever have graced the world. It lights us everything, and the reason we still exist is because we know how to love."

"I don't think love is real. I mean, what does it even feel like? If we weren't given a basic idea of how it feels like to be in love, would we have ever realized that this is love? Why is it even called love?"

"People talk about things like, "Love yourself first, the others will follow," and it always makes me wonder if spoiling myself with earthly wonders is what self-love is. Or is it hypothetical?"

If I tell you that I disagree with any of these common opinions, it would be a lie. Love has a different notion for every being. I tried to search for a one line definition of the word, and it looked something like this:
Affection and care, without any insecurity.

Now, that might feel like a stretch. I mean, let's be real, most of us have discarded the idea of love as something unfathomable and unreachable at some point in time. It's inevitable. I can't say I blame you. Love IS hard to come by, it's true.

Yet, sometimes, love remains hidden right beneath your nose. People may think that physical attraction is all there is to the first step to finding love, but a psychological study suggests quite the opposite. If you would allow me to make this a bit scientific:
In 1985, evolutionary psychologist David Buss conducted an extensive study of the traits people rate as most important in finding a mate, and his finding was clear - The number-one trait people sought was kindness and understanding, and not the way they looked.

There are lots of things that trigger people. Sometimes it's the absence of a particular trait we'd like the other person to possess, and sometimes it's just the fatal, closed corners of our boxed minds. For an example, let's talk about racism.

The fact that someone's skin colour manipulates your feelings towards them as people completely escapes me. But I'd like to understand. I still wouldn't stand for it, but it would help me paint a clearer picture as to why the melanin factor secreted by someone's hypothalamus matters so much, it becomes physically impossible for us to feel any love or kindness or humanity for them.

I want all of our readers to know one thing: you are loved. No matter the colour of your skin, or the way you choose to identify yourself, or your weight, amongst all other peripheral attributes that do not, in any way, contribute to the sole fact that: YOU ARE ENOUGH. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.
Black lives matter; they did yesterday, they do today, and they will continue to do so, EVERY DAY.

Moving forward, let's give you a brief overview of the July Edition for the DEAD MAG:

Brought to you by group of talented and badass girls, the DEAD MAG features a compilation of articles revolving around a prominent theme. The theme for this edition has been "Romance That Changes The World For You" and it's been an immense pleasure working with all the members of the beautiful Dead Poets Society.

The very first article projects the spotlight onto an evolved and brilliant author, a Wattpad and real life star, with more than 350K reads online on her major hit "The Love Riots".

The second article, titled "From the Top Shelf" focuses on the second book we plan on glorifying, and rightly so, this week, the book that we've loved thoroughly and we bet you'd love too!

However we deny, there are certain fictional personas that move us, shape us and sometimes brings out the best in us. Therefore next, we highlight the character we fell for this month with the article titled "Dramatis Personae".

Let's circle back to the topic of self-love for a moment. It isn't about adorning yourself with the most expensive and extravagant materials you can find like people would like to believe. It's more about giving yourself the space, and the time to heal whatever has been lost or broken. It's about accepting yourself for who you are, and not because the world wants you to -  it's because you want you to. To this date, I believe that loving yourself, and having faith in yourself is the highest power a person can yield. Combining that with writing, you can express yourself to whatever extent your mind and your hands allow you. Or reading, or anything else, for that matter.
Some works influence us in incredible ways. They change the way you look at the world around you, and change is, thankfully, inevitable. In the article "Literary Lore", we talks about how our favourite authors or poets have inspired us to throw caution to the wind and reach for the dream.

With the fifth column, titled "Light! Camera! Bookmarks...?!", the charming Ash captivates your mind in the age-long debate on whether books are better, or do movies and series based on them take the cake. Using a marvellous example, she'll guide through a list of points you cannot ignore, and you'll have no choice but to choose your preference by the end.

And last but never the least, we talk about music in the pretty self-explanatorily titled "Music That Touch Our Soul". It's a beautiful rendition on how songs can transport you to different places, and have you feeling a plethora of emotions in no time at all.

In the end, we shall go "PostScript", and talk about important announcements, shout outs, comments and whatnot.

It's a wild ride, but it is with my utmost delectation that I implore you to experience what we passionately call, THE DEAD MAG. Let's strap on our seatbelts and hold tight. But never ever forget to have fun. And always remember: love may or may not be an illusion, but the mystery is what makes it so desirable. And as a wise man once said, "Of course it's in your head, but why does it mean that it's not real?"

Lots of love,
DoveMalfoy19
