Eighteen
The doors to North's workshop were open when Dia and Jack arrived. It was suspiciously silent. The elves were all in little jingling huddles on the floor, watching them anxiously with big eyes. Dia looked around as he and Jack flew up to the top floor. It was empty. The guardians were gone. Even the elves and Yetis left behind were quiet and out of sight. The normally busy work stations abandoned and still. Dia walked slowly along the wooden railings, bare toes light on the varnished wood.
"They're not here", he called up to where Jack was flying up above him. The wind picked up and he floated smoothly to the top level. Both boys standing before the massive globe.
"Theres no more lights". Dia whispered in concern. The globe was empty and desolate.
"No! There!" Jack gasped. He flew hastily up to land on the shape of North America. He crouched down next to the tiny light and his face lit up. "It's Jamie! We need to go!" He turned and held out his hand, waiting for Dia. The dark haired boy smiled.
"Let's go and get him", he grinned.

The sky was dark as Dia and Jack swooped out of the clouds down to Jamie's window. Snow and frost covered the sleepy two, painting it in a beautiful winter picture. (Probably Jack's doing). Jamie's window was slightly ajar as the two spirits peered in. Dia grasping onto Jacks shoulders for balance as they perched precariously on the small windowsill. Jamie was seated on his bed in his pyjamas. The moon streaming through the window the only source of light. He was facing a stuffed toy rabbit, speaking slowly.
"Okay looks", Jamie said to the bunny, tone trying to be serious. "You and I are at what they obviously call a crossroads. So here's what's going to happen. If it wasn't a dream and if you are real, the you have to prove it, like, right now". The bunny didn't do anything and Jamie's face fell slightly. "I've believed in you for a long time, my whole life in fact. So you kinda owe me". He sat up, picking the bunny up and holding it closer to his face as he spoke. "You don't have to do much. Just a little sign so I know. Anything. Anything at all".
There was silence for a second as Jamie stared at the bunny. Then he let out a disappointed sigh. "I knew it". He dropped the bunny and the toy rolled onto the floor.
Jack huffed and pressed lightly on the window. It opened soundlessly and he stepped into the room. Dia behind him watching curiously. "Okay then", Jack muttered under his breath. "Let's give you a sign". He pressed his hand to a window pane and spiralling frost began to expand over the glass. The little ice partials dancing around Jack's fingers. The winter boy grinned and gestured to the ice, blue eyes sparkling. "Want do draw something?"
Dia blinked then beamed at the other boy. He eagerly stepped forwards and gently pressed his finger to the glass, ice melting at the slightest touch. He moved his finger with a squeaky noise as he drew. The lines forming slowly into the shape of an egg then dots and lines decorating it. "Huh", Jack commented. "And Easter egg, nice". Dia grinned as Jack covered the next window pane with frost. He had to stretch up onto his toes to draw on that one. This time he drew a rabbit with long ears and a cotton tail.
"He's real", Jaime gasped behind them. The little boy had moved off the bed and was watching the drawings and the ice seemingly appear out of thin air with wide eyes.
"Aww cute", Jack smiled. "My turn". Dia stepped back as Jack approached the glass. He bent his head, eyes closing, as he held out his hands. Shape of the bunny fell away from the glass. It condensed, becoming a physical shape in Jack's palms. Dia and Jamie both gasped as the bunny lifted its head and twitched its ears. Jack grinning joyfully at what he had done.
"Woah!" Jamie blinked as the bunny began hopping through the air. It ran in circles round the room, little snowflakes dancing in its trail. He began giggling in delight, hands out to catch it as it hopped past.
Standing on the other side of the room, Dia and Jack were both laughing. "I didn't know you could do that?" Dia chuckled.
"Neither did I", Jack snorted as Jamie bounced on the bed. The boys hands catching the bunny by the tail. The bunny promptly exploded into a shower of light glittery snowflakes. Dia gasped, hands coming up to touch them as he marvelled at how pretty it was.
"Snow?" Jamie whispered. Something seemed to spark in his head. "Jack Frost", he breathed. Dia and Jack froze, turning to the boy in surprise.
"Did he just say?" Jack uttered.
"He did", Dia confirmed.
"Jack Frost?" Jaime repeated, slightly louder.
Jack sagged at the sound of his name. He was staring at the boy in disbelief and surprise. One of his hands instinctively clutching for Dia's in almost reassurance. Dia took it and squeezed it tightly between both his palms. "He said it again", Jack gaped. "He said... you said".
Jaime turned and his eyes seemed to catch. He was seeing something. "Jack Frost!"
"That's right!" Jack bounced slightly on his feet. His hand gripping Dia's in excitement. "But that's me! I'm Jack Frost! That my name! You said my name".
Dia watched as Jamie stared, mouth open in surprise. He tugged on Jack's hand, gesturing to Jamie's face. Jack paused. "Wait can you hear me?" Jaime nodded slowly. "Can you see me?" Jack stuttered, voice rising as he got closer to the boy. He turned to Dia, face open with absolute joy. "He sees me!" He exclaimed. "He sees me!"
He let out a loud nonverbal noise of happiness and threw his arms around Dia's neck. Cold soft lips pressing a hard peck to his cheek. "He sees me!" Then he was letting Dia go and going a quick backflip. Dia laughing at the infectious joy.
"You just made it snow!" Jaime exclaimed.
"I know!"
"In my room!"
"I know!"
"You're real!"
"Yeah man!" Jack was bouncing around the whole room now. Dia laughing as the winter spirit gestured wildly. "Who do you think brings you all the blizzards and the snow days? And you remember when you went flying on the sled the other day?"
"That way you?"
"That was me!"
"Cool!"
"Right!"
"But what about the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny? Are they"-
"Real, real, real", Jack bounced up onto the mattress in front of Jamie. "Everyone of us is real". He turned as he spoke to catch Dia's eye. The Day of the dead still on the other side of the room. Jack beamed and Dia couldn't help but smile back even though his chest hurt. Jaime glanced to where Jack was looking but didn't see anything.
"I knew it!"
"Jaime?" The boy's mother called from the hall. "Who are you talking to?"
Jamie froze and Jack gave a encouraging smirk. "Uh Jack Frost?" He called back hesitantly.
His mother laughed. "Okay".
Jack chuckled and turned to Dia. "He sees me!" He exclaimed for the fourth time. Dia grinned, then his face fell. Jaime was glancing towards him again, brow furrowed with confusion.
"Jack, who are you talking to?"
