Chapter 4: Unwelcome guest.
new chapter, so sorry about the wait, I've been extremely busy lately and this book definitely took a back seat to some of my other books but that definitely wont happen any more. 1/1/2017 #631 in paranormal. Enjoy
Staring into the pale blue eyes looking back at her, Running a dirty hand through her through her now red and tangled hair, she let out a sigh. Her porcelain white skin was now painted blood red,and the hair surrounding her face stuck to her cheeks. Thalia reached into the near cupboard and grabbed an orange woollen wash cloth, holding it under the tap to let it soak up the warm water. The inside of the sink turned crimson as her hands were washed clean, the soap she'd earlier grabbed no longer looked its light purple colour but a disgusting charcoal black. She scrubbed the cloth vigorously against her face, causing her skin to go from blood red and white to an irritated pink. She only stopped scrubbing when her skin started to burn, looking back up into the mirror, she applauded her ability to clean herself up after a kill. Her face looked as sweet as ever, her eyes looked bright and excited, she resembled a child entering a candy store for the first time, well, she would of if she washed the clotted blood from her hair. Thalia always felt over come with joy after a killing, it might even be equal to the feeling you get when seeing your best friend after so long. She checked the hanging oak clock above her walk way, she had half an hour to fix her hair before she was expected to see Penrith, having already cleaned the blood splatters off the red painted walls and replacing the rug in the entry way, for the third time this week, she had nothing else to do but shower herself, and rinse out the sink.
The walk to the freeze shack was pleasant, the sun was hidden behind light grey clouds and the breeze was stinging her nose. Thalia enjoyed cold weather, even more so when it rained. The rain droplets reminded her of tears, the tears of pain and fear that rolled down the faces of her victims faces while she was punishing them to be exact. Turning around the last corner Thalia could see her destination, the fading brown bricked shop with a green banner with black lettering spelling out 'Freeze Shack'. Walking past one of the small windows, she peaked inside to see Penrith talking to a dark figure in an exasperated voice. Thalia had never seen that look on Penrith's face, deep wrinkled formed between her soft brown eyes, her greying eyebrows pulled together and her top lip pulled up harshly to form a sneer. Her once soft and motherly face took on an entirely new look, one that Thalia knew she herself wore often when carving words into her fearful and cowardly victims.
Not being able to make out the features of the black silhouette, Thalia couldn't see the person who had made Penrith so crazed, nor could she make out the hushed words both people were whispering. Deciding that she wanted to put a face to the shadow and a reason to Penrith's turmoil, she crept towards the door as silently as she could master. Without knocking she opened the door, ignoring the red and white closed sign hanging by sting on the door knob.
Penrith was sitting in a chair near the counter reading what appeared to be an old leather bound book, her face was restored to its original motherly and friendly form that made Thalia feel warm and safe inside . Looking around, Thalia's eyes searched for any sign of the silhouette that was not long ago standing near the chipping yellow chair Penrith had pulled out of no where, but there was no sign of anyone apart from the old lady that Thalia considered family. "What are you looking for child?" The sound of Penrith's voice caused her head to snap towards her, eyes wide, for some reason Thalia felt stupid for trying to find the mysterious companion of her dear Mrs Mily. "Nothing, i was just trying to see if there was any particular reason for your shop to be closed so early." The lie easily rolled off her tongue, and she hoped that it wasn't as transparent as she felt it was. Penrith's eyebrows inched up a fraction, and Thalia wasn't sure if it was because Penrith had caught onto her lie or if it was because of the under tone of suspicion in her voice. "I was just closing for a few minutes in hopes i could have some peace and quiet to eat my lunch and read a good book" Penrith said as she set her book on the counter and picked up a plate of colourful fruits that Thalia had yet to notice.
Feeling like she had offended Penrith, Thalia sent her the sweetest smile she could master, silently hoping the conversation would take a different route, not completely sure she had seen Penrith and someone else in here at all. "What did you think of my nephew? He is a looker isn't he? He definitely got his good looks from his fathers side" The question caught Thalia off guard, she was certainly not expecting to be asked in such a direct manner. "He seems alright, more polite than his counter part if I'm to be frank." That was not what Penrith was wanting her to say, she knew from the slight drop in her shoulders, but Thalia didn't know how else to answer the question. Was she expecting her to giggle like the girls at her old school did in the presents of Grant McMure, the guy who was described as the hottest guy at the high school, or to confirm that her nephew did in fact get his good looks from his father? Thalia was never one to giggle, although she did recall giggling when she chopped Grants head off, and she had no idea if perditio did get his looks from his father, all though if Penrith looked anything liker her sister, and Perditio's mother, than she could agree that he looked more like the presumed father.
"And what about Cadens? The counter part, i think you called him" His name brought shivers up and down Thalia's back, causing her to slightly shiver, and for Penrith to lift one side of her mouth briefly in what resembled a smirk. Just briefly enough for Thalia to consider it a facial tick, and to think nothing more of it. "He's rude" She said abruptly, no longer enjoying the conversation between Penrith and herself. Sensing this, Penrith frowned, and lowered her head slightly, knowing that pushing the conversation now would not be a good idea. Thalia could only be social and commit to a conversation for so long, before becoming stone like and feeling the tickle in her stomach that would only be satisfied after a kill. Smiling sadly, Penrith stood up and wrapped her lean arms around Thalia's body, efficiently trapping her arms to her side. Pulling away and holding her at arms length, Penrith whispered " you be a good girl and come see me tomorrow, okay child? I feel I'm seeing you less and less these days" Hearing that hurt Thalia's chest, because she was seeing Penrith less and less, but not by choice, she was just getting the tingles in the pit of her stomach more often now that she was growing up. She agreed to see her tomorrow, not entirely sure she would, but she would try, for Penrith's happiness, she would try.
Making her way out the door, she passed the window she was earlier peaking through, she slowed down slightly to glance inside the shop. She had predicted that Penrith was going to be looking at her, but she wasn't expecting the featureless figure to be standing behind the counter. She blinked to refocus her eyes, but when she had reopened them it was gone, and only Penrith was standing there, facing her with that sad smile. Turning away from the window she headed home.
Unlocking and opening the door she walked in, making her way to the kitchen to grab her trusted kit, that was full of all her favourite torture equipment. Reaching into a draw she pulled out a list, reading over it quickly to see if there were any changes recently made. "I was convinced you wouldn't be home till later." she heard a deep voice say from behind her. Turning around she dropped the piece of paper that was in her hands to the floor as she saw a man step out of the dark corner. The man smiled at her, obviously happy he had taken her by surprise. The list complete forgotten, she took a step towards the man. "Cadens, what are you doing in my house" Cadens was an unwelcome guest, in her house on the hill.
