do i wanna know? / chapter four
NABILA WOKE UP to the fresh smell of her 'second' favorite smell since her transition, buttered pancakes. She had convinced herself that eating pancakes every morning somehow made the blood craving easier. And it did for the most part with the help of a certain sociopathic brunette.
"You're up. Finally." Kai muttered when he saw Nabila walking towards the kitchen table, while at the same time flipping pancakes. "I was starting to think you went to grab your own breakfast."
"I told you I'm not doing that, Kai. I'd rather kill bunnies than humans." She made herself perfectly clear, sitting down as she waited patiently for her usual order.
"Ah, yes. The Stefan diet." He looked at her with curious eyes, sliding her a plate with three pancakes. "You two would have gotten along."
"The what diet?" She asked, divulging in the food a second later. "Thanks."
"Not what, who." He said while chewing on an apple. "But never mind that."
"So, listen." Nabila changed the conversation, one that Kai already knew where it was going.
"No."
She put her hands up in the air, giving him a 'really?' look. "You don't even know what I was gonna say!"
Kai ignored her complained for as long as he could, going about and making a banana smoothie instead.
"You want to go out and explore." He looked at her, waiting for her response, a hand on his hip.
"Oh." Nabila looked frustrated, trying to find a good enough excuse for him to let her go. "I think-"
But her words were cut down when Kai turned on the blender. "I can't hear you!"
"You suck!" She yelled back loud enough for him to hear before throwing him a banana. She knew he would dodge it, given his quick vampire reflexes, but she wasn't trying to hit him.
"Yea? You suck too! Literally." He cackled at his own joke, watching the girl roll his eyes as she left upstairs. "That's right, go to your room! You're grounded until you go to college!"
"You're not my dad!" Her voice echoed through the stairs, which resulted to another witty response from Kai. "Of course I'm not, I'm too hot to be a dad."
He sighed as he drank his banana smoothie. "Kids these days. Sooo ungrateful."

EIGHT TWENTY FOUR, read the clock on the wall. Nabila had been sleeping in the room furthest to the hall, in addition to being the largest in the home. According to Kai, it was vacant when he first knocked on the door, but the clothes and photo frames with pictures suggested otherwise. She thought it was best not to question it and pretend like she didn't see them. It was just like when her father would kill innocent people for his convenience, and every time she would pretend like she didn't see it.
For nearly two weeks, she either spent her time 'training' with Kai on how to control her vampire urges, or locked in the room she had gotten cozy in. And as weirdly comfortable as she was becoming living in that house and with him, she knew it wouldn't last, and she didn't want it to.
So she did something that at the time, she would have considered it smart. She sneaked out behind Kai's back, going back to the two guys that saved her that day in the hospital. Why? She wasn't fully sure herself.
She had waited for Kai to knock out, since he usually did right after munching on pork rinds and watching an episode of Grey's Anatomy. It always made him hungrier too, seeing all the blood and bodies opening up in surgery. So after an episode or two, he slept through the night.
Nabila knew it was her only chance of going in and out without risking getting caught. She would be back in the morning, safe and sound.
It wasn't difficult for her to locate the dingy apartments, given that was the only other place she had been in for weeks besides the hospital and the pork rind lover's house.
Reseda Heights Apartment Complex.
She peeped through the windows, glancing around to see if anyone was home. The lights were off and there was no noise coming from the inside. She thought about knocking for a long minute, standing awkwardly right outside the door, thinking about what she was going to say.
She practiced her words carefully in a whisper. "Hey, I don't know if you remember, but I'm the girl that threatened to hurt you the other day. No, not like that. Hey, I just wanted to come back and say I'm sorry about-"
"Excuse me? Are you okay?" A woman with curly hair asked, causing the girl to jump in fright. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I live next door from Johnny, I'm assuming that's who you're looking for."
"Uh, I think, yea?" She replied anxiously. She assumed she was a nurse based on the clothes she was wearing.
"Blonde, 6'1, in his early 50's, can come off as a bit blunt?" The woman described exactly the man Nabila was looking for.
"Yea, that's him!" She nodded. "But, I'm also looking for a guy. His name's Miguel. I don't know if you know him but-"
"Miguel? Of course I know him, he's my son." She giggled softly. "I didn't know Miggy had girl friends. All he does is talk about Karate and cars, I can't keep up with that boy."
"Sounds like someone I know." Nabila chuckled, thinking about a certain pork rind lover.
"I'm Carmen Diaz." She smiled politely, coming closer with her hand out.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Nabila Mikaelson." She smiled back, shaking the woman's hand. "Is he home?"
"Johnny or Miggy?" She asked. "Because they're both out right now."
"Oh."
"I'm sorry. I don't know where Johnny is, but I know for a fact that Miggy's at Miyagi-Do with Sam. You might still catch them if you go now." She suggested.
Nabila was confused on what or who Miyagi-Do was, not to mention she didn't know who that Sam boy was. "Miyagi what?"
The woman chuckled. "Miyagi-Do. It's a karate dojo that Miggy has been training in — or at least he was. I'm not so sure now."
"And Sam?"
"That's Miggy's ex girl friend, or friend. I'm also not sure." She shook her head in confusion.
Nabila didn't know why, but the last thing she expected from the boy was for him to have any girl friends, let alone an actual girlfriend.
"But here, this is the address. I'm sure Miggy will be happy to see you." She smiled, handing her a piece of paper with the address in pen.
"Thank you, Mrs. Diaz." She took the paper from the woman's hand.
"Oh please, call me Carmen." She insisted. "Do you need a ride sweetie?"
"No, no. I'm good thank you. I have a ride." She admitted, even though she technically didn't. With her vampire speed, she would be there faster than if she were riding in a car.
"Okay well, it was nice meeting you, Nabila right?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Wow, your parents really won the award for best name giver, huh?"
She tensed up, being thrown off guard over the mention of her parents. "Yea."
If only her parents knew where she was.

NABILA WALKED IN the steps of the dojo, scanning the sign that read, 'Miyagi-Do Karate'. It was pitch dark and quiet, seeing as it was nightfall.
"Are you lost, or do you just like to admire signs?" A voice spoke out from behind Nabila, startling her. "Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to scare you."
Her speechless expression showed when she turned around to face the person behind the voice. It was a boy around her age, dark hair, and around 5'11. He deeply reminded her of an old friend she used to have back in New Orleans.
"Tongue tied, huh?" He chuckled, a small smile forming. When the girl's only response was a confused look on her face, his smile dropped. "Oh no, are you deaf? I'm so sorry. Wait, what am I even saying, you can't hear me, sorry."
Nabila shook her head as she covered her mouth to avoid her laugh coming out. "No, I'm sorry."
"Ah, so she does speak!" He looked at her, accidentally making eye contact.
"And I can hear too."
"That's good to know." He smiled, his hands on his pockets. The silence after that was loud, until the boy decided to speak up. "I'm Robby. And you are.."
"Nabila." She responded with her eyes glued to him.
"Okay Nabila, so what brings you to Miyagi-do?" He asked curiously, walking a step closer for every word he spoke.
"Uh," She tensed up, backing up until she hit the wall. "I- I'm looking for-"
"You're looking for...?" He asked with an intimidating look.
"I- I'm looking for Miguel." Her answer causing the boy to step back, she noticed that the mention of Miguel irritated him.
"Oh."
"Do you know him?" She asked.
"Yea, I know him." He said in a bothered tone. "Doesn't mean we're friends."
Instead of pushing the conversation forward, she decided to end it simply. "It was nice meeting you Robby, but I'm gonna go look for Miguel now."
"Why would you think Miguel is here? He doesn't even-" Robby stopped, thinking hard before he began walking towards the back without saying another word. And unsurprisingly, she followed right behind him.
"Hey, what are you doing?" She whispered, unsure of why she had murmured.
"Looking for Sam-" He froze when he saw Miguel and a girl in a very cozy position, who Nabila assumed was the Sam everyone was talking about.
"Should've known." Was all that Robby managed to say. By the looks on their faces and the sudden detachment from each other, they weren't expected any visitors and were definitely not supposed to be together.
Nabila also wasn't sure on what to say, or if she should even say anything. Although, it did bother her seeing Miguel with another girl even though she didn't know him at all.
"Robby!" The girl spoke, staring in pure shock and failing to notice the girl standing next to him. "It- It's not what you think."
"You two get together the second I was gone or waited a week to make it look good?"
All Nabila could think during this was how lucky Sam was. Not only was she beautiful, but she was able to have two good looking guys fighting over her. She wished that was her.
"It's not like that."
"Nabila?" Miguel sounded surprised and confused as to why she was with Robby and how she found him. Unlike Sam, he completely ignored Robby's presence and instead paid attention to the girl instead. "What are you doing here? And how did you-"
"I-"
"You know her?" Sam asked as she furrowed her eyebrows, cutting Nabila before she could speak.
"Yea, she's cool. Uh, she's a friend." He smiled tensely, glancing back and forth to the girls. The way he said that sentence made Nabila think that he was still into Sam, and wanted to make sure she knew that they were nothing more than friends.
Robby scoffed at Miguel's voice. "How is it that you're able to get two girls when you clearly don't know how to treat them?"
"Woah, woah, woah. That's not what's happening here." Nabila cut him off, waving her hands in a 'hell to the no' matter. "I barely know Miguel. I wouldn't even consider him a friend."
She realized what she had said may have been a little too harsh when Miguel's eyes stared down. Even if her intentions weren't to hurt him, she had accomplished exactly that.
"Right." He mumbled under his breath. "Then what are you doing here?"
"I- I came to talk to you." She confessed. "About the other day."
"The other day?" Sam and Robby asked simultaneously.
"What happened the other day?" Sam began interrogating, her arms crossed.
"Can we please talk in private?" Nabila insisted.
"Yea, sure." Miguel agreed, going towards the girl until he was stopped by Robby.
"So what, you're just going to leave to avoid another beating?"
"Robby, please." Sam begged.
Another beating? There was so many questions going around Nabila's mind, so much that she needed to be filled in. And so much drama that she wanted not part in, yet here she was in the middle of it.
"Okay, maybe I should leave." Nabila suggested, taking a few steps back.
"No." Miguel and Robby voiced at once.
"I'm not going to fight you again." Miguel told him, but his fist suggested otherwise. The girl knew it wasn't going to end well for the both of them.
"Why? Scared I'll send you back to the hospital?"
Robby grinned, his fist also getting ready.
"The only reason I ended in the hospital is because I showed you mercy, like my sensei taught me. You know, your father." Miguel uttered, knowing how to get under his skin.
She didn't get why the mention of the old blonde man bothered Robby, but the punch that landed on Miguel's face made her think that they were connected.
"Robby, stop!" Sam yelled, trying to get in the middle of them but failing miserably as she was thrown to the ground by Robby. This only irritated Miguel more, throwing him on the ground and punching him repeatedly.
Nabila knew if she didn't stop them now, they would've both ended up in the hospital, or worse, a night in jail.
She rolled her eyes and sighed. "You guys are just like my dad and uncle Elijah."
Using all of the strength in her, she easily untwined the two bruised boys. Throwing one on each side, unaware of how much forced she had used. She was still getting used to having all that power.
"Woah, you are strong." Sam gasped in shock, as did the two boys once they were able to regain consciousness after the throw.
"How did you-"
"Uh, I lift a lot?" The girl laughed nervously. "Anyways, it was nice meeting you guys, but I got to go. Bye!"
"Wait!" Miguel quickly got up from the grassy floor. "Didn't you want to talk."
"Right!" Nabila had forgotten why she was there in the first place. "The thing is, I have to get home, otherwise I'll be in big trouble with Ka- my-. Maybe some other time."
"You live here now?" Miguel asked again. "I thought your home was in New-"
"Not anymore." She interjected. "I'll see you some other time, hopefully."
She walked away hastily, hoping he wouldn't speak again or follow her. And he didn't. But someone else did.
"Hey, wait up!" Robby's voice echoed through the dark.
"That was pretty badass what you did back there." He smiled with his teeth, showing his bloodied nose and bruised face. She didn't know what it was with guys and blood that made her find them one hundred percent more attractive.
"Uh, thanks?" She grinned nervously, continuing to walk beside him. "I'm sorry about..."
"It's okay, I deserved it." He admitted, shrugging his shoulders. "But I'm glad you did. You saved me from going to juvie again."
"You were in juvie? Wow." Her eyes widened.
He chuckled. "Yea. It's been a tough year for me."
"Do I wanna know?" She asked, turning to face at him, accidentally catching him already staring at her.
"Depends if you wanna hear it." He murmured, carefully studying her face.
She contemplated giving into whatever game he was playing, but something inside of her was telling her it was okay. "I have time."
Their faces were almost touching, at most an inch or two away from each other. And their height difference was good enough as the girl didn't have to stay on her tippy toes, but she did have to slightly look up.
They were on the verge of brushing their lips together, when a voice made them freeze.
"I beg to differ, young lady."
