7. Suicide Attempt?
##Yukine's Point of View##
Help...
Help me!
I shot up sweating. Who was crying for help? I looked around the dim room, it was the middle of the night, but luckily, there was a lamp next to me. I noticed Yato was gone, and a figure was standing in front of the window.
"Miya?" I asked, getting up and making my way to her, stoping at a small distance.
She turned her head to look at me, her lifeless eyes filled with tears. A small smile appeared on her face as her tears continued to flow down her cheeks. Then she did something I never would've predicted.
She jumped.
It all went by so fast. I didn't even have time to process any of it before I lunged forward and caught her by the wrist. She wasn't conscious. Therefore, I had to pull her up, she was surprisingly light.
I pulled her into my lap once she was safe. Tears started coming out of my eyes while I held her tight. Was she really trying to... end her life..? I almost lost her... Why...
"Y-Yukine?" I loosened my grip and looked down at her. "Why are you crying..?" She wiped away my tears with her finger.
"Why did you do that..." I muttered. My bangs covered my eyes.
"What are you talking about?" My eyes widened. Did she really not know?
"You jumped out that window!" She sat up and looked at where I was pointing.
"I only dreamt that I did..." she said absentmindedly.
Dream? Was she sleep walking? No. Her eyes were open and she was crying. I looked down at her again. She was falling asleep, so I carried her to her futon and laid her down.
"Miya?" I said quietly, sitting next to her. She hummed. "Can... I sleep next to you?"
She just replied with a, "yeah, sure." And fell right back asleep. I guess she really was tired. I slipped into the futon without waking her and laid facing her. I couldn't help but smile while looking at her. I wanted to protect her.
The sound of the door opening made me move my gaze towards it. And there, was Yato. I didn't want to leave Miya alone, but my master was calling me.
"What is it?" I asked annoyed once I was in front of him, moving my gaze back to Miya every few seconds.
"She was possessed by a phantom." Yato said seriously. A phantom? Why didn't I see it then? "It was a special phantom created by my father."
I clenched my fist. "So they made her do it..."
"No." I looked up at him. "They can't manipulate someone to do something they don't want to."
"Y-You mean..." I had a scared expression.
"She's suicidal." I couldn't bear the thought of Miya even thinking of ending her life. That's what Yato meant by 'she is a danger to herself'... "I'm not surprised, considering her past and all. Not to mention her father was released from prison earlier today."
That was why she looked sick when she came back. She was crying because she had to go back to him. "We're not letting her go back... are we..?"
"We can't do anything about it unless she makes a wish." No... she can't go through all that again... I looked back at the sleeping girl. I honestly couldn't imagine my life without her.
##Yato's Point of View##
I could feel my regalia's pain, I knew how much he cared for Miya, maybe even more than just a friend. I had been stung a bit because of his small crush, but he's just a kid, I can't hold that against him. I just hope nothing bad happens to her.
"Get away from me!" A high-pitched female voice shrieked.
Yukine and I both rushed into the room, turning on the lights. It was a phantom in the form of a man. And in the corner was the human girl, completely terrified, crying. How the hell did a phantom enter a shrine? Kill the phantom, ask questions later.
"Sekki!" I called, lunging towards the phantom. However, Yukine hesitated once it turned to look at us, causing it to escape out of the building. Running after it, I asked my regalia why he hesitated.
"I'm sorry," he replied, "it looked like Miya's father."
That's how it got in. It hid in Miya's shadow. "You want to protect her, don't you?" I asked firmly.
"Y-Yes but-"
"Then don't hesitate to protect the ones you love!" I could feel his determination after I said that. The phantom didn't go far, it was easier to spot since it has morphed into its original form.
##Third Person POV##
"You who would desecrate this land of the rising sun! With my advent, I, the Yato god, lay waste with the Sekki and expel thy vast defilement!" Yato moved two of his fingers along the blade and stabbed the sword into it. "Rend!" The sky turned red and a white symbol appeared where the phantom once was. "Revert Yukine."
"You've gotten stronger," Yato praised, giving Yukine a pat on the back.
"Can we go back now?" Yukine asked worriedly. He was still uncomfortable with Miya being left alone. Yato nodded and the two of them headed back to the shrine.
When they arrived through the window, Yukine was immediately greeted by a tight hug from Miya. She buried her head in his chest and burst into tears while Yukine was stroking her back. Yato left the two to calm down while he would go and talk to Kofuku about what happened.
"I already know what happened," Kofuku told Yato once he was downstairs. The two were sitting on the floor of the living room.
"Never knew a phantom was that smart," The raven-haired god admitted.
The once spiteful god had a serious expression on. "That's why we don't allow humans into shrines. Phantoms can easily follow them without them knowing. Mi-Chan was an exception because of Yukine-kun."
"Miya is suicidal, you know," Yato told her, taking a sip of his beer.
"Not necessarily," Kofuku paused, "she's becoming a lot better because of Yukine-kun. And Yukine-kun has healed more from Hiyori's departure."
Hearing about Hiyori made Yato's heart ache. They could never be together, but it still hurt that they had to cut ties. Hiyori needed to move on with her life, even if it didn't have Yato or Yukine in it.
The drunk god chugged another beer. "You shouldn't be drinking that much, Yatty," Kofuku warned. Yato didn't care, he just wanted to drown his sadness in booze until morning rolled around.
I wish you were still here... Hiyori...

This was a slow chapter, but I kinda wanted to do some character development and go into more detail about Miya.
And I wanted to bring up Yatori so deal with it-
