6. My fault?

There's a short three-day holiday, so I got this out UwU

———————————————-
##Yukine's Point of View##
I paced around the hallway of the room Miya was in. 'I should've done something. I should've protected her. I should've-'

"Yukine." My thoughts were cut off by Yato. "She'll be fine." Will she though? She hasn't even fully recovered from the earthquake incident.

A tug on the towel I was wearing over my clothes snapped me out of my thoughts once more. "Will Miya nee-san be okay?" I didn't respond. I didn't know how to respond.

"Hey kid, come here," Yato called as Hera started tearing up. "You too, Yukine."

I sat next to my master with my head down. I couldn't help but feel as if I could've done more.

~~Flashback~~
"Miya!" She didn't even look like she was struggling, but more as if she accepted the fact that she was going to fall in. Her smile was the last thing I saw before the ice below her broke.

Just as I tried to go after her, Yato pulled me back. I forcefully broke out of his grasp and dove into the lake. It was extremely hard to see underwater, the coldness of the water sent me into shivers.

Blood. A blood trail. I swam over there, only to find an unconscious Miya who had a sharp piece of ice stabbed in her abdomen. As fast as I could, I grabbed her arm and swam upwards, hoping she would be alright.

I gasped for air once I broke out of the water. "Yato!" I yelled, trying to pull her, and myself, out of the water.

"Yukine, what were you thinking?" But I couldn't take in what Yato said.

Miya's skin was pale-er, her lips as well... She was freezing cold... Her pulse was weak... and she wasn't breathing...

"Y-Yato... is she-"

"We'll take her to the hospital."

As soon as we knew it, we were in the hospital, with doctors taking care of Miya, and a nurse bandaging Hera's wound.
~~Flashback end~~

"You May see her now. She's still unconscious, but we were able to stop the bleeding." A nurse told us, turning to me, "you were very brave to save her, but never pull such a dangerous stunt again."

"He won't." Yato said firmly. The nurse nodded, walking away as Hera practically ran to Miya.

"When will Miya nee-san wake up?"

"I don't know, but I should get you back to your parents. It's getting late." Yato said to Hera, picking the girl up.

"Can I come back tomorrow?" Hera asked with sadness in her eyes. "She saved me..."

"Ask your parents, alright?" The girl nodded slowly. "I'll be back in a bit, Yukine." I hummed in response as they teleported away.

I walked over to the sleeping beauty. She seemed as peaceful as ever. I gently put my hand on hers. Her skin was so soft...

Drop~

"Poor little girl~" A familiar voice said, sending shivers throughout my body. "I tried to warn her, you know."

I lifted my head only to meet her lifeless dark purple eyes. Anger flowed throughout my body as I clenched my fist. "What did you do to her, Nora?" My voice was threatening in a way.

A small but sinister grin appeared on her face. "When will she learn not to be so nosy." She just stood there, a white aura surrounding her.

"Leave Miya alone. I don't care about what you or your "father" are planning. You are not harming her." I said firmly.

"I'm not the one harming her, Yukine." She paused. "You are."

I loosened my fist while my expressions softened. Was I really hurting her..? I couldn't be... right? These thoughts filled my mind.

"You aren't hurting me, Yukine."

##Miya's Point of View##
I was awake for a while, listening to everything Nora said. Until I couldn't keep quiet anymore. Yukine looked at me and lowered his head, his bangs cast shadows over his amber eyes. Nora was also gone.

"The ice wasn't very thick, that's why it cracked." I explained, patting a space beside me and motioning him to sit down.

"It's not about the ice..." He mumbled. "Nora wouldn't be after you if we had never met..." His voice was deeper and full of regret.

I ruffled his hair, trying to make him feel better. "If I hadn't met you, I doubt I would still be alive right now." I smiled softly as he looked at me in confusion.

"What do you mean-"

"Yukine." Yato had just appeared on the opposite side of the bed. Must me great having teleporting powers. "We're taking her to Kofuku's shrine." He seemed serious, which was a first.

"But she's not fully healed," Yukine said worryingly. I put my hand on his to reassure him that I was fine.

Yato nodded and before we knew it, we were in front of this house. It looked nice. Much nicer than my old house at least.

"Yatty!" A pink-haired girl ran out and gave Yato a tight hug. I was guessing this was "Kofuku". She turned to look at me, her eyes lighting up. "Oooo is this the human girl you were talking about?" She walked over to me and poked my cheek. "She's so cute! What's her name?"

"Miya Sano," I replied, bowing my head.

"I shall call you Mi-Chan!" She exclaimed, giving me a tight squeeze before basically dragging me into her house. Yato and Yukine followed, I could hear them chuckling.

##Yukine's Point of View##
"You will be sleeping in here with Yatty and Yukine-kun," I heard Kofuku say from upstairs.

Meanwhile, Daikoku was cooking dinner while Yato and I were seated. Why did he want Miya to come? Is she in danger?

"Yato?"

"She's a danger to herself, and for that reason, she's vulnerable to my father and Nora." Yato replied before I could ask my questions.

"It's because of me that she's Nora's target... isn't it?" The feeling of guilt filled my emotions. Yato remained silent. "Do we have to..." I couldn't say it. It was hard enough losing Hiyori...

"She'll be a good target for phantoms if we cut ties, so no." What did he mean? Phantoms only target people who have negative thoughts and Miya was the most optimistic person I met.

"Yukine-kun~" Someone called me, and it wasn't Kofuku. It was Miya in bunny pajamas. I couldn't help but start to turn red, which got me a punch from Yato. Miya sat down next to me and chuckled. "I'm sorry," she laughed. "Kofuku calls you that so I thought why not."

"Whatever, Mi-Chan," I mumbled while Daikoku served us dinner.

Yato started stuffing his face without hesitation, and I started eating the vegetables, but Miya didn't even touch her food. She just stared at it, as if she had something on her mind.

"You okay?" I asked. She looked back at me and nodded. I honestly hadn't seen her eat that much before. She had a small appetite I guess.

"Hey kid," Daikoku said to Miya, "I'm expecting you to finish that."

I wanted to speak up for her, but Miya did before me. "Of course, Daikoku." She smiled sweetly and started eating.

After we finished eating, Miya excused herself to the bathroom while Yato and I went to our room. She didn't need to say anything, I knew something was bothering her. Yato fell asleep almost instantly, talking in his sleep about Yatoies again.

I sat in front of the window, gazing up at the moon. It was really pretty, something Miya would like to draw. The sound of the door closing made me look in that direction. It was Miya, but she had some sort of unsettling expression.

"Miya?" I called out to her. Her tired violet eyes met my amber ones. "Are you okay? You look sick." I got up.

"I... I'm just tired, Yukine." Her voice was quieter than it usually was. She walked over to her futon and sat down. I did the same.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Although she trusted me, she kept a lot of things to herself.

"Yeah." She said while playing with her hair. She seemed to play with her hair when she lied, but I didn't question it any further. "Goodnight, Yukine."

"Night, Miya." I watched as she laid down, facing the window, which was the opposite to me.

I wish I knew what was bothering her...
