5. Lost

Anwar and Martin didn't bother coming along, they were never that close to Ollie anyway. So they stayed home with Darlene, who kept a close eye on them.

We boarded the first flight that arrived and departed within an hour.

On the plane, I sat next to my father. He was staring into a vast space of emptiness.

Oh, dad.

My mother had dug herself deep into a sleep. My dad, had his eyes bulged at a 'nothing'. Me, I had my brain squeeze up all it's juices for all my memories with Ollie.

I dozed off, almost immediately, my eyes tired from crying.

"Gigs, over here!" Ollie called out to me, asking me to follow him to hide behind a huge tree.

"Coming, Olls!" I giggled, running after him with my two stunted nine-year-old legs.

We hid behind a tree, and peeked over at an old man who was 'deliriously' picking into the highest point of his nostrils.

I covered my mouth, trying to control my giggles that seemed to have erupted from my mouth, because of the expressions the old man created while enjoying his pick.

Just as he was about to place the dirty booger under the bench of where he was sitting at, Ollie marched out from behind the tree and confronted him.

"Excuse me, Mister, I'm going to have to ask you to kindly take that booger on your finger and place it in a rubbish bin!" Ollie said in a deep and bellowing voice.

"What nonsense are you talking about, son?" the old man replied, effortlessly flicking the booger which lay flat on his finger.

"I'm sorry mister, if you do not know about the rules of this park, littering is prohibited. And to me, you seem like an often comer to this park, surely you know the rules and regulations. So, kindly I'm going to have to ask you to pick up that booger and place it in a rubbish bin." Ollie continued

Before the old man could utter a word, Ollie burst out laughing. He motioned me to follow him, and so I did. We both ran back home from that park and never returned back there until today, afraid of getting infected by the 'booger disease.'

A wide smile spread across my lips. I opened my eyes slowly and unbuckled my seatbelt and head to the bathroom.

There, I washed my face and tied my ruffled hair into a nice and comfortable ponytail.

Ollie, I love you so much, you have no idea. You don't know how much I miss you and how much I will. I don't think I can move on from the present day, thinking about our good times, the sweet memories we created, how much you mean the world to me. Ollie, come back, please.

I said that looking at the mirror in the bathroom. A single tear rolled down my cheek and I immediately brushed it off with my finger.

I am a strong girl. I can overcome this.

Swiftly unlocking the latch that locked the bathroom door, I opened it gently and walked back to my seat.

"Honey, where have you been?" my mother asked me in a concerned tone.

"I just went to the bathroom. Why?"

"Honey, you've been away for thirty minutes."

I didn't have to say anything. I just buckled my seatbelt and remained silent.

"Gigi, is everything okay?" my mother asked.

"I'm fine, mum." I said sternly.

My parents exchanged glances, despite me being in between them. I could sense a tone of concern in my mother's voice and an aura in my father's although he chose to remain silent. To be honest, I didn't even know what was going on with me.

Thirty minutes in the lavatory? I could swear I was there for about an average of seven minutes. What were they saying?

I heard the pilot announce that we were about to land. I stuffed my tangled earphones into the front pocket of my jacket and switched off the airplane mode on my phone.

When the plane did land, my father had an angry look transfixed on his face, like he wasn't sad about the loss of his eldest son. He huffed and reached for his bag on the top rack of airplane and pushed my mother's and my backpack to the side. He rushed off the plane and left my mother and I confused.

"What was that all about?" my mother asked me, bringing her eyebrows down to her nose.

"Not something I would know of. Certainly." was my quick reply.

My concerned mother ran down the stairs of the plane, which connected it to the plane and ground. I followed behind her, abruptly.

I think my mother's heart was crushed instantly by what she saw my father doing on the ground, and I felt the exact same. I reached for my mother's hand and held it.

I saw a single tear roll down my mother's pink cheek. I felt the anger rising up her veins, her sadness and disappointment filling up the empty spaces in between.

"H-How could he do this to me?" my mother asked, her voice breaking, her tears falling down her face.

I held my mother's hand tightly and squeezed it tightly, hoping it would comfort her in the slightest way possible.

I felt so bad for my mother. My mother thumped her way towards my father in her 6-inch heels. I followed after her steps, unaware of what I would say to him.

Thoughts circled my mind. That was the meanest thing my father could ever do to any of us. Especially my mother. He was a filthy liar. I know the hurt my mother felt, I would've never thought my father was capable of actually doing such. He seemed like an innocent man. He was my father. He was supposed to be the one and only loyal husband to my mother, even though she wasn't his first choice. His ex, that was the past. This, is the present I never thought i'd have to face.
