12. Shaping From Scratch

From the speakers above my head, I could hear the pilot announce that we were landing soon. I immediately packed up my phone and earphones.

"Gigi, we're going to drop our things at home, clean up and we're going to take a drive and check out your new school. How does that sound?" my father asked me innocently.

"That sounds great, dad. Could we possibly go out for dinner after that?" I tested my father, to start on my investigations.

"We'd have to take-away. I've got to run to work at 6." replied my father.

"Oh, that's just sad." I told him with a pouty face.

Phase one of my investigation: Proved. Or at least half-proved.

My dad told me not to be so sad, he said we could still pick up some food from my favourite Thai restaurant. I tried to show him my happiness about his little plan, but deep down, there was a fiery flame of rage burning in the pit of my stomach.

"You filthy little liar! You cheat! Don't you tell me not to be sad, I know who you really are!" said I, in my head of course.

As soon as we landed and got ahold of all our bags, we hailed a taxi and were already on our way back home. That was when I heard my 'Rap God' ringtone in my bag.

I pulled my phone out and gasped at the caller.

Camden.

I slid the answer button and held the phone to my ear. Unwilling to start the conversation, patiently, I waited for him to say something.

"Hey Gigi, I was wondering if you'd like to join my friends and I for supper later today? They're all thrilled to meet you. It's okay if you aren't free because of the late notice, we could arrange anot---"

"Sure, Camden I'm looking forward to meeting you and your friends." I cut him off.

"Oh, that's great, Gigi. I'll pick you up at 7. Please wear something cute, love you, bye!"

I chuckled before ending the call. He was really very cute. I was finally about to embark on the journey of the expansion of my social life. Excitement filled every inch of my bone, I felt the tingle in my spine.

"Sweetheart, what was that all about?" my mother asked, smirking at me, in a curious manner.

"Camden has asked me to join him and his friends for supper today. I've agreed. He's coming to pick me up at 7." I told my mother as her expression changed into a wide plaster of excitement and happiness.

"I'm proud of you baby, you're finally making friends of your own. You are finally going to lead a normal teenage life." my mother said as she cupped my cheeks in her hands. She placed a gentle kiss on my forehead.

I smiled a warm, gentle smile, in agreement. I'm finally going to fit in!

***

We reached back home soon after. I ran in to put my clothes by the laundry for Darlene to sort out and wash. I used the washroom, combed my hair again, applied a layer of powder and a little bit of lip gloss.

I was done in a jiffy, so I decided to check up on my brothers. (Being the caring sister I am.)

Both of them were in their own rooms, minding their own businesses off the social media. I said my hellos and told them how the funeral went. They didn't question much about how I felt because they knew how close I was to Ollie. They knew it would break my heart to discuss Ollie's matters. For that, I silently thanked them and reached my parents who were getting into the car.

Back in the car again, we drove through the town which was all a new area to me. The neighbourhood seemed friendlier than back there, as seen in the people I had already met. I was absolutely loving this new place.

It took us about ten minutes to reach the school. It was a humungous school, but I already felt it's arms welcoming me in. We drove around the school, checked out a few of its' open facilities; the field, playground, back area of the cafeteria and a little graffiti painting. This gives me a mushy feeling and rushes exhilaration through my blood, I couldn't wait to finally start school and meet new people.

I hear a small buzz from my sling bag. I received a message from Camden:

C: 'Please don't forget our plans tonight. I really can't wait to see you again.'

G: 'It's only been a few hours. And I haven't forgotten. You're picking me up right?'

After that we ended our messages and I was brought to my favourite Thai restaurant. I had zero appetite. I was already full from all the patience in me. So I told my father about my plans for a heavy supper. My mother got some noodles. Dad wasn't getting anything, he was having dinner at Valerie's.

"Why aren't you eating anything dad?" I asked out of 'curiosity' having packed mum's food back.

My father who was driving pretended as if he could not hear me. Currently, I had no interest of digging any deeper because it wasn't going to particularly bring me any good. I was into Camden. A little too much.

It was a quarter past six by the time we got home and settled in. Dad immediately drove away, dropping mum and I hurriedly at home. I decided to hop into the shower, have a small, warm shower and change into something 'cute'.

I picked out a pencil skirt and tucked in a plain white shirt. I pulled my long wavy hair into a ponytail and applied an ever so slight layer of makeup. A layer of powder to maintain the moisture on my face, a line of eyeliner so my eyes looked more appealing and a little whip of my lip gloss.

Camden arrived at sharp seven, in a car. He wasn't driving; obviously. He got out and rang the doorbell and talked to my mother while I adjusted the noticeable flaws before meeting him.

By the time I got downstairs, my mother was laughing away to something he had said. My instincts told me that he was probably going to work out if everything went just right.

Picking me up and impressing my mother, Camden brought me into a car with a man driving, a girl in the front seat, and the both of us in the back seat.

"Hey, you look really good." He complimented as soon as we were on our way.

Camden chose a simple outfit; khaki shorts, simple tee and sneakers. His ruffled hair made him look one step ahead of other good looking boys. I smiled as I sank into the seat. What did I do to deserve this?

"We're going to a nightclub. I hope it's completely fine with you." the girl from the front seat said.

She turned around and offered her palm to shake; "Shayla Lust. You must be Gigi. Pleased to finally meet you." said she in a strong British accent. I noticed her pretty features on her tiny face. She was very pretty and very goth. But she seemed nice, I'd like to get closer to her.

Shaking her palm bravely, I replied; "Pleased to finally meet you, too."
