Not Because I Am A Woman 

I can cook,

Not because I am a woman.

I mop the floor,

Not because I am a woman.

I do help my mom,

I dust the curtains,

And wash the dishes,

All this I Do,

Because I am a good daughter,

Not because I am a woman.

I do not watch cricket,

Neither hockey nor football,

Because I find it uninteresting,

Not just because I am a woman.

I sit and daydream,

Not because I am a woman.

I run around like wild,

Untamed and uncontrolled,

I do snore and sometimes I stink,

Sometimes I keep my hair uncombed,

And I do sit with my legs wide apart,

Don't mock me, Don't try to change me,

Don't tell me, Don't remind me,

That I am a woman,

I know that very well,

Not because I am a woman.

I love this world,

And I expect them to love me,

I want to be well loved and cared for,

Remembered and Respected,

Call it a silly girl's dreams,

Or call it base sentimentality,

For all I know is that,

I am not just a woman,

I am a living breathing thing.
