"Stop trying so hard to deny what is so obvious to see."
Chapter 4:
I was now sitting half-awake at the couch at Dilton's hotel room. If looks could kill he will be six feet under by now.
I was glaring at him by the time he barged into my room and literally dragged me out of bed until now that we're sitting across each other at the miniature living room at his hotel room.
Soon enough Chris arrived looking like he also just woke up. His bed hair sticking up in different directions, his sweatpants hanging low on his hips, his shirt on his hands and he was barefoot.
He was still yawning as he sat beside me.
"So what now?" Chris asked, his morning voice almost melting me on the spot.
Dilton shoved papers on our direction, we grabbed what we can and I immediately recognise the pictures from yesterday. Some pictures are really lovey-dovey and just by looking at it made me cringe, but I'll say we're pretty believable.
"Now look at this," Dilton shoved another set of papers to us.
Pictures looking like we don't really enjoy each other's presence, some were taken at Starbucks and some at the mall. I guess trying not to look annoyed, doesn't work for me.
"What was that?" Dilton exclaimed and that woke me up.
Chris and I both exchanged looks.
"All we did was act as cringe-worthy couples yesterday," Chris shrugged
"Well, I guess you didn't notice that you are cringing at your own actions too." Dilton pointed out.
Dilton shifted his look to me, "Clary, at least make an effort about it," he said "at least try to get along, so you can convince the media."
"I'm try—" I started
"I am willing," Chris cut me off, "but Clary isn't cooperating."
"Hey!" I protested
Chris looked at me incredulously, "What? You're the one treating me as if you're PMS-ing"
"It's not my fault that you're really annoying," I told him
"Well, the two of you go deal with it because you both signed up for this." Dilton almost yelled
Our heads both snap at his direction. To be honest, I almost forgot that he is in the room with us.
I slouched back at my seat and hang my head low.
"You were giving the media mix signals, which is not actually a bad thing because it made them more curious, yet now I want you to confirm you relationship." Dilton said
"How?" I asked
"Post something on your social medias or something," Dilton shrugged "I don't really care"
With that, he left us alone in the hotel room.
"So, I'm just gonna post something on my twitter account," I told him as I grabbed my phone from my pocket.
"Let's take a picture." He suggested, bringing up his phone on our faces.
Out of instinct, I immediately hid my face on his chest, "What the hell, Chris? I'm not wearing makeup, you idiot."
"But hey it's a good picture," he laughs "Looks candid."
I sneak a peek on the picture; I was hiding at his chest while his smile looks so genuine.
"You could be an actor," I commented
He just shrugged, "Too bad, I just love football."
I guess he's still the same football loving jerk from high school.
"You should go to my game once," he said "It'll be a nice publicity."
I rolled my eyes, "And then what? You'll make me wear your jersey or something like that?"
He just smirked at me, "Not a bad idea."
I opened the twitter app in my phone and started to compose a tweet.
'You make me the happiest girl in the whole world'
I attached a stolen picture of him that I took just now. My tweet receives several of mixed reactions from his fans and mine.
I scrolled down the tweets; most girls are sending hates saying Chris is theirs. I rolled my eyes; they can have him for themselves. Only if I could tell them that it's just a lie.
A tweet caught my attention though, it says:
'@RandomTwitterName: @ChrisJameson and @ClaryHmphry are the cutest couple ever'
Attached to it was a screenshot of Chris' instagram post. It was a picture of us that he took a while ago with the caption:
'Waking up beside her is a perfect way to start the morning'
I would've feel giddy, it was what a girlfriend want to hear from her beau, especially if her boyfriend is the oh-so handsome, Christopher Jameson.
"I think we made a pretty good job, don't you think?" he asked
I nodded, "Yeah, they're definitely spreading the word."
I continued scrolling through the tweets saying that I'm ugly and I don't deserve Chris, they've been calling me names and it's funny 'coz they don't even know me. Sad to say, these people are so judgemental.
"Your fans are also very supportive." I sarcastically said
"Oh they are," he said, not catching up on my sarcasm
I followed Chris on every social networking site to avoid people having doubts on our relationships, coz apparently if you don't follow each other you're not together.
"Now that we're done, can I go back to my disturbed sleep?" he asked looking at me
Desperate to get rid of his presence, I quickly nodded without hesitation.
He gave me one final look before making his way out to the door, as soon as I heard the door slammed closed, I released a sigh.
I should really work on not being terrified of Chris, as long as he knows I'm Clary and not Clarissa, everything is going to be fine.
Remember, you need to focus to look in love with him not disgusted and scared.
I jumped as the phone in my lap rang, almost making my precious phone fall to the ground.
I smiled as I saw Sarah calling me; it's been awhile since I last talked to her. She's my cousin and also my favourite one. I tell her everything and she's the only one who knows my encounters with Chris and Sandy. Saying she loathes them is an understatement, for she does hate them even though she haven't met them yet.
"Hello?" I said
"Clarissa Jane Humphrey, you're in deep shit." She answered, "How dare you not tell me that you've been seeing Chris, I need to see it on tabloids first. I let you go to San Francisco, months ago and then voila you're dating him. I can't believe you can keep a secret from me."
"Sars—" I tried to interrupt but she beat me into it.
"That's not all lady, after all those years that he made you suffer you managed to forgive him and made him your boyfriend!" she exclaimed, "Young lady, that is Christopher Jameson, the same guy we want to slaughter, do you even remember him?"
I let out an amused chuckle, "Yes Sarah, I remember him."
"Good, I was just making sure, in case you hit your head hard on the concrete and you need some senses knock up on you."
"Sarah, I'm fine." I laughed at her
"Are you sure? Coz I reckon that he is the guy we hate on for years." She sighed
I could practically hear her panting at the end of her rant.
"I'm okay, Sarah." I said, "Are you done? Wanna hear my explanation?"
"Yes please, I wanna know how you end up with that jerk."
I took a deep breath, "Well it started when I got casted on this movie, I'm a new actress, so Dilton thinks I need to gain publicity and he choose fake dating as the way, plus, it'll draw attention to the movie too."
"Why can't it be you leading man, in the movie?" Sarah asked, "Why do they need to choose another guy?"
"My dear cousin, in case you didn't know, my lead man is already married."
"So yeah, yesterday Dilton called me, saying he needs me to meet someone, that's what Chris enters." I continue, "Turns out he's the one Dilton chose to be my fake boyfriend and that's when shit goes down."
"Poor you," Sarah said, "Why does it has to be Chris?"
"Mhm dunno, maybe because he is already a famous football player and a model, plus the fact that he is devilishly handsome and he's really in demand with the ladies right now."
"Touché," she said "So, how does it go with him?"
"He's nice, maybe because I'm now a lot prettier than before," I told her "You know him typical high school Chris I've been telling you about before."
"I would say the two of you look cute if I didn't know better."
I mentally rolled my eyes. "Do you even hear yourself?"
I heard her grunt, "Why does Dilton gotta choose him? Didn't he know?"
"I never told anyone about Chris, just you Sarah. Plus, Dilton doesn't even know anything about Clarissa," I sighed, "It's not like Chris recognize me."
"Wait, he doesn't?" Sarah asked in utter surprise, "Is he stupid or what?"
"I rather keep it way, cous"
"Of course, I know that" she said, "But you didn't even change that much."
"He remembers my name though, he mention somebody being my namesake, when I told him it isn't me he just bought it" I said
"I can't believe he can be this stupid," Sarah said, as I can picture her shaking her head.
"I hate the fact that somehow he still intimidates me" I sigh "It's not supposed to be this way."
"Oh c'mon, you're Clary now, a much stronger person," Sarah tried to motivate me
"I'm trying" I told her
"Hey, how about this, Kevs and I are in San Francisco tomorrow, that's why I actually called but then I saw an article about you and Chris and I thought—,"
"Sars, so you and Kevin?" I interrupted her
"Oh yeah, we're gonna be there, because Kevs need to watch something that has to do with his nerdy stuffs," she said "So what if we go get ice cream like the old times."
"Count me in." I grinned
"Okay, Clary, always take care. Bye." She said "I love you, cous"
I smiled even though she wouldn't see it, "I love you too, bye."
