countdown
The streets of Gotham hadn't changed one bit. Wally wondered whether or not that was a good thing. Probably not.
He was trying his best not to get too bored about the dark alleyways that were literally all the same. He couldn't believe that when he was a kid he thought this place was scary.
He shoved his hands in his pockets to keep them warm, silently ranting under his breath about why he had to be the one to scope the streets for the team's mission. you make one mistake while drawing the straws and OOPS, guess who gets the boring job?
His mental argument was beginning to repeat itself when someone bumped into him. He was sent sprawling across the pavement in seconds, and someone above him started cursing and ranting about kids these days, never watching where they step. Wally got up, rubbing a sore on his head and was about to complain that the other guy should have been watching where he was going as well, when he noticed something shining in the coat pocket inside his large jumper. He just managed to catch a glimpse of some form of fancy technology and a blue red logo that looked familiar somehow, when the man pushed him out of his way with a grunt of annoyance and kept on walking.
The team was investigating a gang that decided it was in their best interest to destroy well known buildings and monuments to their best ability. The other day he'd woken up to find the news blabbering on about how they managed to get onto a window washing platform and spray painted 'murderers at their finest' in red as big as possible across the side of a STAGG industries building. So now he was scoping out the STAR labs facility in Gotham, because apparently Green Arrow found some information that left that building as most likely to be attacked next.
He walked across a street, buying an ice cream from a vendor and stared up at the STAR labs building that was apparently being attacked. He didn't know why the team was given this mission, it was just a bit of vandalism nothing the police couldn't handle. But he guessed the JL was just trying to keep them preoccupied so they didn't start complaining.
See anything yet, KF? Came the voice of robin over the mind link.
No. I don't think anything's gonna happen today, they just took down STAGG; do the JL really think these guys are gonna attack another big industry in the same day?
Regardless, we have to stay alert. Of course, Kaldur was indifferent about how simple the mission, Wally tried not to think about how ridiculous all of this was.
He changed his mind when a bomb went off inside the building.
Robin was stationed on top of the building next to the STAR labs facility, aside from Kid Flash, he was closest. So, when a bomb went off inside he was dashing through a window in seconds.
People were running around in havoc, scrambling to the exits. the front of the building was the side collapsing, but the people inside didn't know that.
"listen up!" Robin yelled over the mayhem, "everyone, you need to exit the building through the back! The front is collapsing!" Robin grabbed a piece of tech from his belt, quickly pulling up a map of the building, he looked around and grabbed the arm of a woman with an ID badge that likely said something important, "take this map, and lead people out of the building through the front. Understand?" she nodded. Taking everyone in her vicinity towards the back of the room, yelling at others to follow.
Robin headed toward the front of the building, he had to find out what the source of the explosion was and whether or not there were any more bombs.
He managed to get his way through half broken doors, dodging debris and struggling to breathe through the dust, eventually he decided to pull a device over his mouth to filter the air.
He pulled it from his mouth every few breaths to shout in search of others, he found the occasional few and directed them towards the back of the building.
Eventually he made it to a place where the dust thinned slightly and the debris stopped appearing. How that was possible didn't make sense, from a mental map he should be pretty darn close to the epicentre.
"hurry up! We need to place the other bomb before someone shows up."
"I know, but I have to set it up from the beginning, I didn't think we were gonna need two bombs."
Robin hid behind a piece of the ceiling that had fallen, looking over the debris revealed two people leaning over a red and blue flashing device.
A bomb.
Guys, I think I may have found our spontaneous bombers... Robin said over the mind link.
Any possibility you can give us some directions?
I don't think so, unless all the debris is painted with 'this way to epicentre'.
Hang on a sec, I think I'm close by. Kid Flash claimed, and mere seconds later a flash of yellow zipped through the small room out of range of the two peoples' eyesight.
So, what's the plan?
Not sure, I can't defuse the bomb without being next to it and those two are armed. Robin said, eyes zeroing in on the red and blue guns strapped to the bombers hips. One hit from those and we're out like a light, you remember what happened to Green Arrow.
Yeah, I'm not too fond of the idea of turning out like that either.
Don't engage, wait for the rest of us to get to your position.
Got it.
Three shrill beeps sounded and Robin suddenly got the idea that not engaging might be a problem.
"okay it's set, now we gotta go! The shield won't stop all the rubble from crushing us." One of the bombers yelled, grabbing the other's sleeve and running towards the front of the building.
One of them pulled out another device and pointed it toward the fallen debris, the device emitted a bang and Robin and Kid Flash averted their eyes. was this another bomb? How many explosive devices did these guys have? This was a major step from just vandalising, but how did they get this tech on their hands?
When the two teens looked up again the bombers were gone, and the bomb was starting to beep again.
Robin raced over, pulling out a cord from his holo-glove and connecting it to the bomb.
"can you defuse it?" kid flash asked.
"not sure, but let's hope so."
Guys, I'd suggest not coming anywhere near the building. Another bomb's been set, Rob's starting to defuse it now.
You need to get out of there! Everyone else is out of the building, you won't have time to defuse the bomb. Artemis answered.
No, I've got this. Robin claimed, his typing on the holo-watch getting faster as the countdown displayed on the clock continued.
"uh, Rob... that timer is getting very low..."
"if you're worried then get out now, I'll follow once I've defused it."
"dude, there is no way I'm leaving you alone with a bomb that's getting dangerously close to zero."
"what?" Robin looked up at the timer just as it hi 30 seconds. "oh shit."
"do you think you can do it?" Robin looked down at the screen of his computer, and unplugged it from the device.
"come on, we don't have time, we gotta get out of here."
The two made their way to where the bombers disappeared looking for every hole in the debris to escape. They crawled through some areas and tossed debris away in others trying to make it as far as possible in the little time they had.
Kid Flash was counting down in his head, the countdown would be at 14 by now.

He tried to get through as much debris as possible, if they got caught in this building when the bomb went off they'd be dead. Unless they were the luckiest people on earth.

They'd managed to make it to a hallway that must have been spared minutely because they could practically run down the whole thing.

And the bomb went off.
In a split-second decision Wally ran towards Robin, shoving him into the ground and closing his eyes in preparation for what was to come. The ceiling would collapse or the walls. Or both. Probably both.
To Wally this was un-fair. He hadn't even gotten to reach 18, and he was dying in an explosion.
Well at least he was dying with a friend.
And everything went black.
A/N
so, I pretty much haven't updated this since I published it. that's sad. but someone commented that they wanted an update so there you go. don't know if I'll part two this, because then that would mean they somehow survived idk, and it's not very birdflash-y but oh well.
I got e idea from @SoyTurtle who left a comment on my first birdflash book that gave me the idea. thanks for that. but I don't think I did it well because it was the two of them get trapped in an explosion not die in an explosion. but we'll see what happens.
anyway, I do have an idea for another one-shot btw, but the likeliness of me writing it aany time soon is low because I'm lazy as fuck.
