Rick Flag- Evening (h)
Having a partner who had a demanding job could be hard and it was never simple.
There wasn't always time for you to do things together, there wasn't always a spare moment in the day to watch a film together or to go for a walk and that was hard.
It was hard to not have time together. It was hard to only see your partner when they got into bed next to you.
You knew what Rick's job was when the two of you got together but you hadn't necessarily imagined how demanding it was for him.
There were days where Rick didn't get home until midnight and he would have to go out again in the early hours the following morning.
There were also days where he'd promise he'd be home in time for dinner or he'd promise to go on that group outing that had been planning for months but then something came up at work and he couldn't.
Unbeknownst to you Rick had realised the effect it was having on you.
Of course, he felt guilty for having such a demanding job; he wanted to spend so much more time with you, he wished he could, but something always came up.
And he had reached the point where he knew he had to do something.
He had made sure that he wouldn't be called into work over the next couple of days so he could put his plan into action.
That morning he'd got in contact with your sister so that she could take you out for a coffee during the day meaning you were out of the house.
He had spent the better part of the day preparing the whole living room for what he wanted to do.
There were candles lit everywhere, your favourite takeaway plated up on the table and a bottle of wine open and ready to go.
He had put your favourite album on, so the music was floating throughout the house – he had even put on your favourite button down of his along with those jeans that you loved ever so much.
As you unlocked the front door you were confused at the music you heard, recognising the song instantly but you were purely surprised when you saw the sight in front of you.
"Rick?" you called out, dropping your keys in the bowl and you made your way over to the dining table.
Your eyes landing on your lover who was stood looking absolutely gorgeous with a bright smile on his face.
"When did you do this?" you asked as your eyes roved over the set up.
He chuckled, coming over to you to rest his hands on your waist. "I think you deserve to be spoilt after these past few months."
A smile crossed your face at his words.
"And I know I haven't been around much at all recently, I am so sorry for that baby," he stared into your eyes as he spoke. "This is for you and me to enjoy."
He pulled out your chair for you and made sure to push you in before he sat down himself.
"Seeing the pure shock on your face has made this all worth it," he joked whilst pouring you some wine.
You laughed. "You sure know how to surprise a girl."
"Like I said baby you deserve to be spoilt, and I am truly sorry for slacking on it recently," you could see the apology in his eyes as he said it and you knew he meant it.
Rick reached across the table to hold your hand; his fingers went out to trace shapes over your inner wrist.
He then picked up his wine glass and motioned for you to do the same. "This is to an evening to ourselves."
You giggled but clinked your glass against his. "And we are to make the very most out of this evening."
