DC Oneshot #8- A Chance

Okay, so this was a BatmanXCatwoman oneshot requested by Lunar_Squid. Hon, I am so sorry it took me forever to get around to this. I won't even divulge into details but anyone who I promised oneshots too, they will happen. I promise. Even if it takes a while, they'll come! XD Okay, anyway, thanks guys for sticking it out! :)

"Sir, another silent burglary alarm went off in the downtown sector of Gotham. Shall I prepare the batmobile for the road?"

Alfred. His voice rang through Bruce's ears as he rubbed his temples. Joker. Harley. Penguin. Riddler. This had been the fifth robbery this week, and it was beginning to wear the dark knight ragged. He lived to fight crime, helping those who can't help themselves. But living off of three hours a sleep a night really took a toll on a person, and Bruce was beginning to wonder how he could help others if he couldn't even help himself. Duty called however, in all hours of the night and day.

"Yeah, Alfred, go ahead." He sighed and rubbed his eyes.

"Right away, sir. Oh, and this robber? It turns out that they caught the individual on camera. The photos will now show up on your monitor. Alfred out." The butler explained as two images popped up on Bruce's computer. Looking up wearily, the man studied the photos above him.

"Wait... is that-?"

The grinning face of the infamous Selina Kyle stared back at Bruce. Better known as Cat Woman, the notorious feline like female was a pro at stealing. Including, stealing the heart of none other than Batman.

Sure, Bruce wasn't proud of the fact that he was in love with a criminal. There should be actually no reason why he loved her, they were polar opposites. Good and bad. But there was just something about her...

The way that she moved, her graceful gait, her glittering eyes, her haunting laugh, her magnetic personality.

"STOP!"

He wanted her out of his head. He wanted to live his life without constantly thinking about her. But she just wouldn't leave him alone.

"Master Bruce, the Batmobile is prepped and ready. I suggest you leave now so you can catch up with the thief." Alfred mentioned through the intercom once again.

"Alright, Alfred, thanks."

The hero stood up and quietly strided over to where his famous costume lay. As he speedily dressed, he just prayed that Selina would stay out of his heart and in a cell.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Catwoman slinked gracefully around the jewelry store and studied each gem carefully.
"This one looks nice..." She purred and stuck a diamond ring into her pouch. Selina knew she needed to hurry and rob as many of the most valuable looking pieces as she could before the authorities arrived. However, she wasn't exactly in a rush. Because the "authorities" normally meant Batman. Tall, brooding, muscular yet sensitive. All of those qualities were checked off on her "purrfect mate" list.
But seriously, she still knew it would never happen. A criminal and a hero. What are the odds of that working out? In her mind, Selina knew it was a fantasy... but in her heart, she had a sliver of hope that it could be real.
"Selina."
A deep voice shook her out of her stupor and she whirled around. Batman.
"Well, hello there." She greeted calmly, her words rolling over her tongue smoothly. The dark knight sighed but continued staying in the corner of the room, shrouded by the darkness of the night.
"I thought you changed." He stated simply. In this moment, she was Catwoman, not Selina Kyle. The woman breathed out a groan, would this man ever learn?
"Hon, diamonds are a girls best friend. And you can't just abandon your old friends."
"You would if you ever wanted to have something more."
Those words made Catwoman stop, the demeanor sending chills down her spine. Was he offering her... a chance? Her eyes flicked over to the man. The bag of diamonds she had fell to the floor.
"W-what are you saying?" Selina was coming out and oddly, Catwoman was okay with that.
"I know how you feel... and- and I think you know about me too." Batman stuttered, almost awkwardly. Selina bit her lip and looked away. Things couldn't be that simple... could they?
"You're better than this... I know you are." Batman murmured. He was hopeful, almost naїve. And in this world, naїvity got you killed.
"He should know that better than anyone."
Licking her lips, Selina said, "A girl's got to survive somehow."
"There are other ways to survive, you know that."
"That does it."
Selina whirled around, her eyes wide. Her face was shaded red, cat claws extended.
"Look, stealing is what I am good at! The only thing I am good at! It's easy out there in the world for you, Mr. Billionaire! Yeah, Bruce Wayne, I know who you are. Well, guess what hotshot, not everyone has it as good as you! People starve. Animals are beaten. Forests destroyed. Did any of those living things deserve that? No, but guess what? It happens. And the only way to escape that is to kill or be killed. And my killing is what I make on these diamonds. My life. I am not throwing my life away."
Silence was imminent after an outburst of that nature, only heavy breathing from Selina was audible. Seconds passed. Minutes. She wondered how long this standoff could last-
"How did you find out?"
Selina growled.
"That is what you are worried about! That I am going to spill your precious secret? Trust me, it's not going anywhere..."
"Selina-" A sigh. "Look I-"
The burglar lifted her head and faced Batman headstrong.
"What?" She asked, as if she was teasing him to go on.
"I know you've done bad things, but I know why. I know life has been hard for you... and you thought you had no other choice. But you are better than this, I know it. I believe it. Why can't you?" Batman, no, Bruce Wayne pleaded. Selina sighed and shook her head.
"I can't change overnight Bruce, I-I'm sorry."
"What if I give you money?"
Selina rolled her eyes, gritting her teeth.
"I am not a charity case." She spat.
"I know you aren't. But if you don't want my money then fine. But at least give me a chance." Bruce told her, closing the gap between them.
"A chance for what?" Selina inquired, gazing up at him fondly.
"A chance to at least show you other options besides this line of work."
"I-"
"One chance, Selina. Just to show you that I- that I-"
She silenced him by pressing her lips against his. It was just a moment in all the moments of the world. But something changed, for both of them....
"I would like that."
An FYI I am not taking any requests to do anymore oneshots at the moment.  I feel bad that I can't keep up so I am doing my last request that someone asked for now and then I will see about opening it up again.  Also, I have some ideas I may want to try...
Thanks.
