"Alright guys, that's the end of our meeting for today. Don't forget to bring your annual club dues for our T-shirts next week, is that clear?" Dera spoke authoritatively within the walls of SS1B that housed D.C.A's Junior Engineering and Tech Society.
"Yes senior" they chorused.
"Okay then, have a great day" she dismissed them.
Ifechi rose to take her leave but she called her back.
"Ifechi"
She turned. Dera waved at her. "Can I talk to you for a second?"
She raised her brows in confusion but stayed rooted on her spot. The other girl took quick strides to her.
"Hey, how are you doing?"
"Finee.." Ifechi said slowly wondering why she was talking to her. Last time she remembered them saying a word to each other was when she called her a "selfish fool." Deciding not to give away any hint of displeasure, she forced a smile and added. "And you?"
Dera offered her a warm smile. "I'm fine, thanks for asking"
"Cool"
"So, um..." She started. "I actually wanted to apologize for yunno...what I said to you last term. I've been meaning to, it has just always skipped my mind and I just thought now would be the perfect time so that I don't keep putting it off. Are you still angry at me?" She asked a bit uncertain as she waited Ifechi's response.
Ifechi shook her head. "Nah it's fine"
Dera's eyes lit up. "Really"
Ifechi shrugged. "Yeah, I mean you were angry, and you had every right to be, plus its in the past. New year, new things. Old things have passed away"
"Wow.. thanks, you're a really nice person"
"Thanks, happy new year by the way"
"Haha..same to you. Um...by the way, I've noticed things between you and Damien have been a bit fishy."
Ifechi's tensed up involuntarily. "Re...really Like how?"
Dera hummed. "Are you guys still quarelling?"
"Nope we kinda settled that last year, before the holiday" She replied.
"But it seems like you guys are still not on talking terms?"
Well we would have been if he didn't tell me to stop talking to him because his girlfriend said so. Ifechi felt an urge to reply but decided otherwise. "I don't know, we've just been...cool I guess"
"Hmm....okay, that sounds fair, I mean unless you count the weird stares he keeps throwing your way every now and then"
Ifechi's eyes snapped open. "Wait what?"
Dera giggled. "Well yes. I caught him staring at you multiple times during meeting and each time you look, he snaps his eyes away quickly, very sleek boy" she added with a laugh, Ifechi joined in nervously.
"Well..I have no idea what's up with him, plus he has a girlfriend so it can't be that way..."
And he also said we can't talk anymore.
"Yeah whatever, I don't understand all this yeye secondary school love some people dey do abeg. Silly boys and girls" Dera sighed dramatically.
Ifechi chuckled light-heartedly.
"So you're saying...if Damien and I had something, then we would have...I would have been silly?" She asked amused, Chidera rolled her eyes playfully.
"Of course you won't be. Plus you're too smart to be engaged in useless teen romance, you're focused"
Ifechi gave a weak smile.
Was she?
"Anyways thanks for your time, and thank you for accepting my apology, I'm glad we are friends" Dera said with a smile and walked off leaving Ifechi amazed. She and Dera were friends, how come she never knew?
She strolled lazily to her class to grab her bag and go home when she felt pressed.
She made her way to the toilet on her class floor. Most of her classmates were packing to leave, very few wandered around gisting and eating.
"It's locked." The fair lady who was in charge of sanitary told her as she stood in front of the central door that housed the five cubicles.
"Why?"
"They're fixing it. Shey one of Una don go block toilet" the older woman hissed. "Use the one downstairs"
"O....Kay" she drawled unsure of whether to use it or not.
Deciding that resisting nature was futile, she scurried down the stairs to the floor beneath and rushed into one of the white stalls.
When she came out, the hallway was almost empty and classes were quiet. Apparently, she'd spent more time than she thought she would. She hurried back to her class and got her things ready before heading home. She was already on the first step downstairs when she heard something, a female voice.
And it was coming from the boy's bathroom.
Ifechi mind your business.
Her ever pleading subconscious warned. But Ifechi was not used to listening to that wise voice, so without thinking twice, she turned around and began to walk in the direction of the voice.
"What if the person is in trouble?" She mumbled to herself as her steps grew wider.
In less than a minute she was in front of the boy's bathroom and the voice had become louder, only that it wasn't beckoning for help as she had thought but rather, it was a moan. And suddenly, the sound became muffled.
"Be quiet or you're going to get us caught" she heard a male voice speak and Ifechi's ears stood alert.
Could it be what she was thinking?
Covering her mouth with her hand, she felt curiosity and excitement overcome her. She'd heard rumours about secondary school students doing the dirty in the bathroom but had never witnessed one herself.
Ifechi go back now! Her mind warned again, but she knew she was completely taken when she heard a louder moan and her feet took on a mind of their own.
She took slow strides as the noise became closer and stopped in front of the last stall. With mischief in her eyes, she pulled the handle of the door slowly. She couldn't wait to see who the culprit was, maybe it was one of those shameless SS3B boys and girls.....
Aahhh!
What she saw next was enough to stop her from ever poking her eyes in suspicious places.
.
.
.
Aliyah and Mr Ola were doing hanky panky inside the boy's bathroom.
**********
"Would you tell someone if you caught their partner cheating on them?"
"Hmm...which kin nonsense movie have you watched now?" Amanda voice was glitchy due to bad network, her facial expression teasing.
"This one is actually in real life"
"Haa! Who is the person?" Amanda perked up, her eyes glinting with curiosity.
"A friend of mine in school. I caught his girlfriend cheating on him with a teacher"
"Inukwa!!" Her sister screamed and quickly covered her lips with her palm. Ifechi giggled when she heard grunts of displeasures from Amanda's roommates on the other side of the screen. The flustered girl apologised rapidly before turning back.
"Say what? Omo Children of nowadays are doing things o, how old is she?"
"How am I supposed to know?" Ifechi said, her brows furrowing. Aliyah seemed older than her, probably 17 or 18.
"You still haven't answered my question o" she hummed when her sister seemed to have refocused her attention on something in the background.
"Ehen what were you saying?"
Ifechi rolled her eyes. "Would you tell someone you know that you saw their partner cheating on them?"
"Hmm..." Amanda started and Ifechi sat straighter anticipating her response. Her sister usually had a wise answer even though it could be unpleasant sometimes.
"First of all, do you have evidence of what you saw? You can't just walk up to someone and say that their partner is cheating on them, you have to be able to prove it"
Ifechi nodded in agreement.
"Secondly, it depends on your relationship with the person. Who is this person to you?" She queried.
"A friend"
"Guy or girl?"
"I told you na, a guy"
"Are you people very close? How strong is the friendship?"
Ifechi bit the insides of her cheek. "We used to be very close but he's still my friend"
Friend that won't talk to you in public because he's scared of his girlfriend. Her mind mocked. Ifechi shook the thought away.
"His girlfriend nko, are you guys friends?"
"No"
"But the guy is your friend?"
"Yeah"
"Oh, then......" Amanda paused before her eyes widened.
"Wait o, don't tell me it's Damien!"
Ifechi groaned, why was her sister sharp to put two and two together?
"Can you imagine? See this girl o, so na Damien matter we dey talk so?"
"It's not like that na"
"So you caught his girlfriend cheating on him?"
"Yes" Ifechi snickered.
"And you think it's reasonable to tell him?" Amanda replied sensing a hint of self righteousness in her tone.
Ifechi shrugged "I don't know, that's why I'm asking you"
"Do you have sense at all?" Amanda eyed her.
"Ah ah na, what's that supposed to mean?" Ifechi hissed frowning.
"I'm just saying. The guy knows you like him, he may think you're just saying it to tear them apart or worse tell it to his girlfriend sef. That's how they'll start calling you boyfriend snatcher." Murmurs of 'asin eh' and 'hmm' echoed her words. Amanda turned briefly to exchange knowing looks with her roomates whom Ifechi then realised were listening in on their conversation.
"Plus I thought you guys were quareling sef" her sister said again.
"We reconciled since" Ifechi shrugged, intentionally leaving out the convo from the previous day.
"And that is why you want to expose his girlfriend. Don't tell me you still like that guy Ifechi." She took a dramatic pause.
"See my beautiful sister, you're too good to be chasing after boys. They should be the one chasing you, forget that guy matter o"
"I'm not after him again o, I'm just saying the truth" Ifechi insisted, her scowl deepening.
"It's not just about saying the truth, can you prove it?" Amanda eyed her.
"Hmmm...."
Her sister was right. She couldn't go blabbering to someone that his babe is cheating on him especially when that someone was Damien and she didn't have evidence. Who knows what he might say or even do to her, or worse how he would start to see her.
The girl who's too obsessed with him to the point of lying against his girlfriend.
She shuddered at the thought.
Finally surrendering, she replied. "You're right"
"Of course I'm right" the taller, skinnier version of Ifechi said smugly.
Ifechi rolled her eyes muttering. "Yen yen yen"
"What did you say?"
"Nothing o, how is school?"
"Omo, it just dey o" Amanda replied and then her eyes lit up. "Omo I heard that Triple-J is coming to our school next week" she said excitedly.
Ifechi looked confused. "Who's Triple-J"
Amanda looked like she didn't know her anymore.
"You don't know Triple-J?"
She shook her.
Her sister's eyes seemed to have tripled in size with the way she widened them "you're for real?"
"Nope, never heard of them"
"Ok now I don't know what to say, you my sis are very outdated"
Ifechi exhaled exasperatedly "that one concern una"
"Oya bye bye, I have class by 4" Amanda said and went off.
Ifechi sighed and switched off her phone. Her mind wandered off to the earlier events of that day. She sighed again when she remembered Damien and what he said about really liking his girlfriend, the same girl that is doing things behind him.
With a teacher for that matter.
Speaking of Mr Ola, she used to respect him. He was both brilliant and handsome, little wonder why female students crushed on him. But Ifechi would have never expected him to do such, she was greatly dissapointed.
Who knows how long those two have been meeting in secret, something told her today wasn't the first and won't be the last.
Too bad she had to keep everything she'd seen to herself.
A/N
Wahala dey o 😂😂😂
What do you think about Amanda's advice? Was she wrong in advising Ifechi to keep quiet, or would you have said the same? Let me know in the comments.
Also Triple-J is a fictional celebrity music band from the novel 'Shattered Heartstrings' by @iamdonjazzy.
You guys should check out her story, it's quite a read. 😌
So there is thing that Nigerian wattpad authors do where they mention each others characters in their book. Some of them even Collab and write books in which their characters exist in the same fictional world and I really like it because not only does it make the story more interesting, it's also a way to support each other as authors.
In the next chapter, I'll mention other characters from some other amazing stories which I truly love.
I've already alerted the authors about it and gotten permission from them as well.
I hope you guys are enjoying the story.

God bless you ❣️❣️❣️
