❝ You haven't been yourself since we got here ❞
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Penny and Goldie got a nice dorm. The only thing that bothered them were the enormous windows which led to the room being engulfed in sunlight. They did not hesitate to draw the curtains since they were not used to sunlight on the Island of the Lost.
Penny would probably never get used to Auradon. She hated change and there was nothing there to make her feel like home besides her friends.
All of the villain kids were currently gathered in Carlos and Jay's room. Jay was showing off the things that he had managed to steal during the last three hours that they have been in Auradon while Carlos was playing video games like a little child on Christmas. Naturally, Mal was giving them a lecture about their inability to take their situation seriously. Penny thought that she was naive and too full of herself for believing that they could pull off their plan on their first night there.
"This is our one chance to prove ourselves to our parents." Mal cut Jay off sharply. "To prove that we are evil and vicious and cruel. Yeah?"
The others muttered their agreements while Penny stared at the silk bedsheets of Jay's bed in silence. Mal narrowed her eyes on her. "What's up with you? You haven't been yourself since we got here."
Penny was surprised that Mal asked her that while sounding genuinely worried. The two of them always had an unspoken rivalry and were never as close as everybody else was. She blamed that on the fact that they were simply too similar and that they didn't know how to get on at an emotional level because of it. Penny would also not be surprised if Maleficent filled Mal's head with reasons to hate her.
"I'm fine." Her answer was short and slightly harsh.
Carlos shook his head, "No, you're not. You space out and you keep quiet during situations which you wouldn't usually shut up in. It's like you're here but you're not." Carlos, of all people, might be the only person in the entire planet who could get away with giving Penny Pan a reality check. She had a soft spot for him since she first met him as a kid, saved him from his mother's harassment and dragged him to the Devil's Den to meet everyone.
Penny let out a frustrated sigh. "I have been feeling weird since we crossed the barrier. I think it's because of my powers but I have no idea how to even use them. My dad said that it would feel natural but I have been staring at that pillow and trying to make it go up in flames for the past hour and it's still there."
"You just need to get used to it. It's not natural if it's stressing you out so much." Goldie told her as she sat down next to her. Penny shook her head and bit her tongue. "You have time. Auradon wasn't built in a day." She added.
Penny was way too impatient to slowly learn how to use her powers. She expected to start spewing magical curses left and right with no control the moment she left the Island of the Lost. Things would be so much easier if her mother could teach her.
Goldie let out a sigh at Penny's silence. She got the reaction she was expecting but she was still disappointed that she always kept her guard up around people.
"Evie, mirror me." Mal told her friend.
Evie took her mirror out of her pocket and spoke into it. "Mirror, mirror on the..." she shook her head and corrected herself, "in my hand, where does Fairy Godmother's wand... stand?"
The mirror showed her the picture of the wand, causing Mal to jump.
"There it is!"
"Magic mirror not so close." Evie spoke into the object. "Closer. Closer. Closer."
Carlos groaned, getting impatient. "Can I go back to my game? I'm on level three."
"Stop!" Mal yelled. "It's in the museum. Do we know where it is?"
Carlos grabbed the laptop which Jay stole and looked it up. "2.3 miles from here."
They were all out of the dorm in less than ten seconds.

After Mal used her magic to put the security guard in the museum to sleep, they broke in and started their search for the wand.
While walking around the museum, they accidentally wandered into the room filled with human-sized figures of their parents. Penny's blood ran cold at the figure of the Dark Fairy. Her mother had died when she was still a little girl so she barely remembered what the woman looked like. Seeing her face looking so lifeless made her shiver and she tried her hardest to not get emotional over it.
Next to the sculpture of her mother, stood the infamous Peter Pan who was staring directly at his wife. Penny's heart softened just a little bit.
"Mommy?" Evie whispered, paralyzed at the sight of the sculpture of the Evil Queen.
"Damn..." Goldie muttered.
Jay, on the other hand, thought it was the coolest thing ever. "Killer."
"I will never forget mother's day again." Carlos said, looking like he was going to throw up.
"Well, the wand is not here." Jay sighed, taking a step back and making all of them snap out of their daze. "Let's bounce."
Penny kept her gaze locked on her mother until Goldie grabbed her wrist to pull her out of the room. Her cold touch made Penny focus back on the situation.
They kept walking along the museum until they finally caught sight of the Fairy Godmother's wand. Penny grinned. "Jackpot. Evie, go get Mal."
Evie nodded and ran off to find the purple-haired girl. A moment later, the two girls returned and Mal marveled at the sight of the magic wand.
Jay chuckled and jumped over the small fence to simply take it like a fucking idiot.
"Jay, no." Goldie threatened.
Penny hissed, "Jay."
Mal's eyes widened. "No, Jay, don't."
He ignored them like the impulsive jackass he was and reached for the wand which resulted in an alarm going off. As a bonus, the force field around the wand pushed him to fall on his ass. His smirk fell and he immediately jumped to his feet. The six did not even bother discussing anything before they made a run to the exit.
"Great job, idiot!" Penny shouted.
"A force field and an alarm?" Carlos scoffed.
"To guard the second most powerful object in the kingdom?" Goldie retorted in a deadpan voice. "Shocker."
They reached the exit and Carlos jumped to answer the phone which was ringing. "Hello? Uh, uh, just give me one second. One second. Uh, yeah, yeah. No, false alarm. It was a malfunction in the, uh, in the 714 chip in the breadboard circuit. Yeah. Okay. Say hi to the missus."
Goldie let out a breathy laugh. "Good one."
"You're welcome." Carlos smiled at Mal who was whining about him stopping a few seconds prior.
She sighed and then they all started running back to their dorms in case the security guard woke up.
"Way to go, Jay." Mal grumbled. "Now we have to go to school tomorrow."
