The stars seemed so close, they seemed to dance right in front of Davina's heavy eyelids.
She had stopped walking a while ago, now she just lay emotionlessly on her towel, gazing into the night and awaiting sleep.
The world seemed different since she started running. It seemed like a darker realm, everything was colder, quieter.
Davina rolled over and glanced at her cracked watch, it read 2.30am.
She sighed and sat up.
If i'm not going to sleep i might as well continue walking.
As she stood up something strange sat on top of her pack caught her eye.
Davina bent down and put her face close to the object, her heart thundered roughly against her chest.
It was the knife. The knife Davina knew had slipped out of her grasp a mere 15 hours ago whilst she was on the run.
It was the knife she had come to terms with loosing as she lay down to rest that night.
She grabbed the knife with a shaking hand and stood up, knees popping from the light stretch. Davina walked in a slow circle, taking in her dark surroundings.
Hairs rose on the back of her neck and her throat seemed to get tighter.
Without a torch or a lighter, nothing could be seen in the darkness. But something was out there, nothing else could possibly explain the knife.
Davina rushed towards her towel to pack, but stopped dead in her tracks.
The towel was gone.
Her lips trembled slightly, not just from the cold.
Her bruised fist turned a ghostly white from the horrific grip she had on the knifes handle.
Fine.. I can go without the towel.
Davina whipped around once again to find her pack was gone, along with the last of her food supplies and water purification bottles.
Shit- i cannot go without that
A sudden burst of fear ripped through Davina, forcing her to sprint forwards and into the woods.
Her mind was clouded in absolute fear which was awakened when the sound of someone gaining on her tail.
Her airways seemed to be closing as her breathing increased from both fear as well as sprinting.
One would think that whilst working in Hydra she would have learnt some sort or self defence, but Davina wasn't working in the field, so self defence had been classified as an unnecessary practice for her.
Her breathing returned a little when the sounds of crunching leaves a little ways behind her stopped.
She relaxed a little, didn't stop, but relaxed into a slightly slower speed.
The fear had almost completely left her mind until an ice cold grip yanked her arm to the right.
She screamed out in pain, feeling her shoulder popped from its natural position.
The ice cold grip didn't leave her arm, but another hand, this one strangely warmer clamped itself over her mouth.
Davina kicked and struggled against the strong force without any luck.
"Shut up! Stop!"
There harsh voice had a slight accent, almost sounding familiar, like when your trying to remember something and it feels as thought it is taunting you on the tip of your tongue.
Davina didn't stop squirming, desperate to get out of his grip.
"Hold still or this will be worse." He muttered, that voice again, seeming so familiar to Davina.
His words gave no affect as she continued to squirm.
She heard him sigh and removed his hand from her mouth and onto her collarbone, the cold hand moving further up her arm.
Before she could say anything he shoved her shoulder back into place.
Davina screamed in agony as a salty tear slipped from the corner of her eye.
Her eyes found his for the first time and locked together. They were icy blue and were filled with... remorse?
Davina furrowed her brows together in confusion, who the hell was this guy?
She felt his grip on her collarbone loosen slightly and she didn't waste a second.
Davina whipped her head up and knocked him right against the skull, forcing him to stumble backwards.
She scrabbled up and started to sprint further into the woods.
Davina ignored the throbbing in her skull, at least she had been expecting it, still hurt like a bitch though.
Tears threatened to spill down her full cheeks as the pain in her shoulder matched with the pain ranging in her skull.
She had to think, there was no way she could out run him, even with a head start. Her best option was to hide and pray that she wouldn't be found.
Diving into a thick bush, she rest her back against a thick tree and lets the bushes consume her entirely.
There, she waited, waiting for the sound of crunching leaves and heavy footsteps, waiting for that ice cold fist to be wrapped around her arm again.
But it never came - nothing did. No sounds, no cold touch, it was too quiet.
Davina found the quietness - calming. It seemed to be the thing she had been waiting for all her time whilst running.
With little thought on that strange man with the beautiful eyes, Davina fell into a deep slumber. The first deep sleep she had gotten in over seven months.
