twelve

Davina's world came to a sudden halt. Her mind seemed to stop working and she couldn't feel her hands.

They can't have gotten him, how did they get him, why is he here.

Jumbled thoughts shot harsh daggers through her skull. All the girl wanted was to scream as loud as she could into a pillow.

She didn't even notice Steve and Natasha leave the room until the door slammed shut.

The bang of the door woke Davina up from her lost train of thoughts. Salted droplets of sweat coated the back of her neck as well as the skin under her knees.

She pulled her legs out from their criss cross position and rested her clammy palms against the wall behind her to hold her weight as she rose from the ground.

"1...2...3...4..." She counted her breathing in a shallow whisper, determined to take back control over her uneasy body.

Davina reluctantly allowed her eyelids to close together as she rested her head against the cool cement wall, one hand covering each ear.

"5...6...7..." Her heartbeat started to slow down as she removed her hands slowly from the firm grip she had on the sides of her skull.

Davina's eyes fluttered open as she whispered the last three numbers. "8...9...10..." She was almost in complete control by the time the last number escaped her chapped lips.

The rattled girl took one last deep breath in before she softly pushed her head away from the coolness of the wall.

Her body turned sharply around to face the door she wanted so desperately to walk out of.

Davina's feet seemed to move without her command towards the door. She reached her hand out towards the doorknob, maybe they forgot to lock it.

She yanked on the door roughly, no such luck, they wouldn't be that stupid.

Davina kept her breathing under control as she buzzed on the button Steve had told her to ring. She pressed her fingers against it several times before giving up and banging her fists against the door.

"Please! Please Steve! Let me out!" Her voice crackled wildly like a mad-woman as she shrieked out demands.

She whipped her head around to face the window, without thinking straight, the girl picked up the metal chair and threw it against the glass with all her might.

Nothing. Not even the smallest scratch presented itself upon the window.

Her teeth ground against each other in frustration, she needed to get out, surely there had to be someway out.

Davina stood in silence for what felt like hours. Her brain fought against her as she racked it with impossible escape routes.

Her entire body twisted to the sound of footsteps on the other side of the door.

She flung her wrecked body towards the metal and banged her fists against them, ignoring the liquid red specks beginning to appear around her knuckles.

"Please! Anyone! Steve Please!" She wailed desperately.

"Steve isn't here."

Davina body stopped itself at the sound of a woman's voice. It was different from the woman Steve had called Nat, this was a different person. It was laced with a strong European accent.

"Hello?" Davina's voice shook slightly.

"Hi." The soft voice spoke back through the door. Her tone sounded kind, almost pitiful.

"P-please, I-I need to get out." Davina's voice trembled as she rested her head against the door.

"I'm sorry, I can't. Steve says we can't." The girl sounded sad.

Before Davina could think of something else to say, something else to try and convince her to let her out, the girl spoke again.

"Your Alexa, correct?"

Davina shuffled uncomfortably at the name she had given them.

"Yes."

"I'm Wanda."

Davina couldn't help but smile slightly. It had been too long since someone had spoken to her with kindness, without wanting something from her, without threatening her... Davina decided she liked this Wanda person.

Davina opened her mouth to speak, only to close it again as Wanda started talking.

"Your name is not really Alexa Mikaelson... Is it?"

Davina's breath hitched at her question. However, the kindness in her voice remained the same. Something inside Davina was telling herself that she could trust Wanda, but of course there was the other side, telling her deny, deny, deny.

"It's okay, you don't have to answer that." The voice behind the door paused slightly before continuing. "Why are you here... Alexa?"

Davina found herself answering the question before the other side of her could stop herself. "Captain America thinks I know where Bucky is."

"Why?"

"Because... Because I was helping him run." Davina's voice wavered slightly, only just registering that spilling the beans to this girl may not be the best idea.

"Oh... I believe he is already here."

Davina's head lowered slightly at her words.

"Yeah I know." She whispered.

There was a moments silence before she felt the door move slightly.

Davina backed away in shock as the door slowly opened to reveal a woman, maybe a little younger than herself staring back at her. Wanda had red hair like Nat, much more subtle though.

Davina immediately took notice of her wide green eyes, she thought they looked somewhat like her own.

Wanda seemed as shocked as Davina, she looked like she wasn't expecting herself to actually unlock the door.

"Hello." Wanda spoke softly.

It took Davina a moment before she found her own voice, once she found it, it barley came out as a whisper. "Hi."

Wanda took a step forward, stepping inside the room.

She opened and closed her mouth a few times before speaking.

"You care for him."

"What?" Davina's brows furrowed together.

"I'm sorry. I sometimes can't help it." Wanda looked down slightly, she was a little taller than Davina, so she could still see slivers of green peeking out from her eyelids.

"You care for him deeply. You are unsure if helping him run is the right thing to do." Wanda found Davina's gaze, it felt as though they were staring through each other.

"H-how did you know?" Davina's eyes scrunched slightly, breaking the gaze.

"I'm sorry I-"

Wanda didn't get to finish her sentence as Steve ran into the room.

"Wanda what the hell!" His voice was harsh. "You can't be in here, she's dangerous!"

Davina frowned in confusion at his words, how was she dangerous?

Wanda looked blankly at Steve.

"No she isn't Steven."

"What Wanda-"

"She cares for him Steven, she wants him to be safe, she does not know if you will keep him safe." Wanda spoke calmly, the girl sounded almost as if she was reciting a dream.

"Wanda we talked about this-"

"I can't help it sometimes Steven."

Steve opened his mouth again but Wanda beat him to it.

"Let the girl go please Steven. She has not done anything that you yourself would not have done for James Barnes."

Davina stood back slightly, taking in the conversation with great interest. She eyed Steve's expression carefully, trying to predict his next words before he said them.

"Wanda-"

"Let her go Steven."

Davina's eyes widened slightly at the sight of small red tendrils whirling around Wanda's palms.

Steve's expression showed clear discomfort before his eyes became stern once again.

"She is free to go once I'm done questioning her, that won't be until tomorrow Ms Maximoff, until then, steer clear of this room." Steve ushered her out as the red spirals disappeared from the girls hands.

The last thing Davina saw was Wanda's soft smile as the door shut with a slight bang against the hinges.

She sauntered towards the window and sat down in front of the glass. Davina wasn't sure whether or not she should feel relived or concerned.

As the girl lay down on the floor, refusing the bed for the third time this week, she knew no sleep would come to her tonight.
