DayLight (7) Re-Edited
Savannah's P.O.V.
I try to find a comfortable position to relieve my lower back discomfort while I stretch in my chair. It was a terrible night—I ran into Cage, Ray woke up grumpy, and I finished the awful merger papers. Not to sound harsh, I like Granny and will always be grateful for everything that she has done for me, but I also detested having to send Rayna off to his place of residence. She has always been my pillar of support, but Cage, Cage is the reason I had to go back and start over from the beginning. "Ma'am, Mr. Emerson has asked for the merger papers," Alissa said through the intercom.
"Alright, let him know that I'll be right there." I buzzed through, there goes my relaxation time. First, there's the stress of this job, now Cage and Rayna's birthday party.
Knocking on his office door, "May I come in sir?"
"You don't have to ask all the time Savannah, you know that."
Rolling my eyes at him, I walk into the office "I was trying to be polite Sir."
He chuckled grabbing the file from my hands, and looked it over "This is really good Savannah, I asked for this in two days and you had it done a day before. This is exceptionally good."
Emerson looked up at me, "You look awful Savannah. Did you get any sleep last night?"
Sighing I sat down in front of him, "No, I was working on that. You know I have insomnia so I thought might as well make it useful and get some work done."
He looked at me disappointedly "You need rest Savannah, go home."
I looked at him confused "Excuse me?"
"Go home, to your baby and get some rest."
Why was he being so nice to me? "Are you feeling alright Sir?"
"Yeah, why?"
"You are sending me home, three hours early. Usually, you send me home three hours late."
"I know I am hard on you most of the time Savannah, but that's to push you to your potential and today you have proved yourself. Also, I know Rayna's Birthday is coming up soon, so go plan something. Go home before I change my mind."
"Thank you, Mr. Emerson."
Quickly gathering my office materials, I make my way to Granny's to pick up Ray early. Parking the car in her driveway I notice that Cage's car is gone, thank god. Hopefully, he doesn't come while I am here. "Granny? I'm home."
"In the bedroom, Sanna."
Quietly making my way into the bedroom I slump down on the bed, "How are you doing?"
Granny chuckled, "I'm doing good, how are you home so early today?"
"Emerson wasn't being an asshole today and let me off early. He said I looked awful and that I should go home to my baby."
Speaking of her, I didn't see her anywhere "Where's Ray?"
"Oh, She's napping in the other room with Cage." My heart dropped
"She's with Cage?" I spat out
Granny looked at me concerned "Yeah..."
"Granny I barely know the guy, you can't leave my kid with someone I barely know. I don't trust him. I love you granny but I don't feel comfortable leaving my child with him."
"Sanna, don't worry she's safe."
Everything Cage, flashed through my mind I tried to calm myself down "I'm sorry Granny. I didn't want to be rude."
"It's okay, I understand what you are saying, you can get her if you want."
Storming over to the other room, I knock on the door "Who is it?" Cage said through the door
"Savannah." He was silent for a while
"Come in, quietly Raya is sleeping." Asshole
Opening the door a little too aggressively then closing it loudly I glare at him, "Who the hell do you think you are by touching my daughter." I whispered angrily.
"She fell asleep in my arms Savy-"
"Don't call me that!"
Stomping over to the side where Ray was sleeping I grab her away from him causing her to stir in my arms a little bit "Don't touch her again. Granny may not know that we know each other and knowing you, she probably doesn't even know what you did to me so don't use it to your advantage. Just because you are around me doesn't mean you are back in my life understand?"
"You are overreacting Savannah."
"I am not overacting. I am speaking as a mother, I don't trust you, and I don't feel that MY daughter is safe around you so as a mother I am asking you to stay the fuck away from my daughter."
Cage got up and walked towards me expecting me to back up but I stood my ground. That was the old me this is the new me, I was not scared of him "This is my grandma's house. I am not going to leave, you can and take your bitch daughter-"
I slapped him hard, how dare he?! "Don't you ever, EVER, speak about Rayna like that again. Do you understand?" He glared at me intensely trying to break me, not now "I said do you understand?"
"Yes." He said through clenched teeth "Now get the hell out of my room."
Breathing heavily I say "Gladly."
"Granny!! I am going home and I'm taking Rayna with me. I'll send you the details of her birthday party in the afternoon."
"Bye Honey."
How dare he? How dare he call his blood a bitch. Wait he has no right on her, there's nothing similar about him and her she's mine. How dare he call MY daughter a bitch.
I hate him, I absolutely hate him.
Arriving at my apartment, I gently put Ray in her crib and poured myself a glass of wine.
The picture that I built of him was made of glass, it just needed a push and it was all broken. I'm not hurt that he broke me, I'm hurt that what I thought he was, was so far off from reality.
Rayna Samara Miller is fine without him. I am fine without him. We didn't need him.
. . . Flashback (Delivery Day) . . .
I woke up with painful contracts hitting me, I tried to get up but it was too hard panicking I called out to Granny "Granny!! Granny!!"
I hear footsteps rushing towards me, "What wrong Sanna?"
"I don't know, I'm having hor-" I stop mid-sentence gripping the sheets trying to ride out the pain "Horrible contraction."
She turns on the light, "Sanna, your water broke."
"What?"
"Yeah!" She said with a huge smile on her face "She's coming!!"
"Ahhh" I screamed out in pain "Grab the bag then, let's go."
"Alright," Quickly grabbing all the essentials she helps me into the car,
"Granny! Please, drive faster," Tears were coming out of my eyes, both of joy and pain
"Hold on sweety, almost there."
I clench my jaw in pain, not wanting to freak her out, "Alright let's go, we are here."
"Someone help!" Granny said frantically "This is an emergency delivery."
The nurses immediately grabbed onto me taking me into the room, "Granny, granny needs to be with me."
"Ma'am we need you to calm down. Your granny will be here any second but so will your baby, you are fully dilated."
"Ahhh!!" I screamed in pain again "Get this thing out of me!"
"You need to push Ma'am."
I pushed two times and with the third push, She was out. The room was filled with her cries, Granny cut the umbilical cord.
"She was born on Dec 25th at 11:45 pm. Six and a half pounds."
One look at her, there wasn't anything I wouldn't do for her, "Have you thought of a name?"
I nodded not being able to take my eyes off her "Yeah, " I whispered "Rayna Samara Miller."
Miler, not Levi. I don't want a trace of him left in my life, all I want is a peaceful life with the three of us Granny, Rayna, and Me.
. . . Present . . .
We didn't need him then and we don't need him now.
