Chapter 4
Around a week goes by and each day, Lukas would help around the kingdom, then try to think of a plan to get the girls locket back to her. Problem is, he never got her name and he had no idea who she is or where she even came from. The locket gave him the impression that she is from the night kingdom, but even if he could go there, he is way too scared to. The night time for Jesse wasn't that different. Each night, she would try to help around the night kingdom, then she would try to sneak out so she could get her locket back, but tonight, she finally managed to escape without getting caught. She stands on the roof of the castle, trying to find her locket, so she could teleport down, get back on her night terror. She sits on her knees as her eyes turn purple. She is using her powers so she could see in the pitch black area. Jesse takes a deep breath before climbing down onto the balcony. She gets down on her hands and knees, looking at every nook and cranny, making sure she didn't miss it. She sighed in defeat before standing up.
She lets out a loud gasp as someone grabs onto her arm then she hears the voice of the boy she found, "I knew you'd come back!" He said with a sense of glee in his voice. "Yeah, I uh... I came back. Now I have to go." Jesse says as she tries to pull away from the blond. His grip remains tight around her wrist. "H-hey! Let me go!" Jesse whispers so she would not wake anyone up. She is terrified of what will happen if anyone found her in the day kingdom. "Look, I just want to talk. I don't want to hurt you." Lukas says and Jesse stops struggling. She turns her head and looks at him, looking at his body language to see if he was lying or not. "...Okay, but... If you pull anything, I am out of here." Jesse looks at Lukas' beautiful diamond blue eyes. "Alright, alright... I'm gonna trust that you won't run." He says and lets go of the girls wrist. Her arm drops to her side and she looks at him. "Hello, Lukas." The girl says and Lukas rubs his neck. "Well, it's good to know you still remember my name but I still don't know your name." He sits on his bed and Jesse stands still. "Oh... My... my name is Jessica, princess of the night kingdom but everyone I know calls me... Jesse." Jesse says, knowing that she is risking her own life talking to a day but she also knows that there is something different about this boy than what she was always taught. "Princess? Huh." Lukas starts to chuckle. "What?" Jesse looks at Lukas, confused. "It's just funny because I am actually the prince of the day kingdom." Jesse and Lukas make eye contact. "Y'know, you are very different compared to what I learned growing up." They both say at the same time then they look into each others eyes and started laughing. Lukas then reaches into his pocket and grabs onto the locket.
"...Princess Jessica?" Lukas looks at the Jesse as she slowly sits down next to him.
"Just call me Jesse." She looks away, trying to make the conversation end quicker.
"I'm guessing this is yours." Lukas holds up the locket then Jesse turns to look at him. A huge smile appears across her lips.
"Thank you." She grins before grabbing onto the locket.
"You're welcome." Lukas smiles then he looks out the glass door and at the night sky. "Um... Jesse, Why are you so different that from what I have learned?" Lukas asks and Jesse shrugs.
"I could ask you the same question but I... I should get home before I get in trouble." Jesse stands up and starts to head to the balcony.
"If you would rather be at your dark kingdom, then why did you come back?" The blonde chuckles.
"...One, it's called the night kingdom and two... I needed that locket. It's all I have left of my father." Jesse says, quietly. Her voice cracks at the mention of her dad.
"Your father?" Lukas looks at Jesse with curious eyes.
"I would rather not talk about that. Look... You do realize I could end up dead from just being here, right?" Jesse backs up, back toward the balcony but she does not leave quite yet.
"Well, what's stopping you from leaving?" Lukas stands up and walks over to her.
"I don't know... Maybe it is the fact that you are trying to engage in conversation with me." Jesse mumbles and starts to climb over the balcony ledge then she stops for a few seconds.
"Will I get to see you again?" Lukas puts his slightly tanned hand on Jesse's very pale hand.
"Depends. Do you want to see me again?" Jesse asks and Lukas nods. "Well, it sucks for both of us then, because we can't see each other again unless we both wanna wind up dead."
"Fine... Can you at least answer one last question before you go?" Lukas smiles as Jesse looks into his eyes.
"Fine. Ask away, Goldie locks." Lukas frowns as she says that then Jesse lets out a nervous laugh.
"Will you come back... During the day? I'd love for you to visit us during the day. Plus, its kinda like my coronation next week. Sorta." Lukas asks and rubs his neck and Jesse just stares at him for a second before giving her answer.
More than an hour goes by and Luna paces around the castle, waiting for her daughter to come to the throne room for their nightly lesson. "Ugh! Where is that daughter of mine?! If she is to become queen, she has to listen to me and show up on time!" Luna pinches the bridge of her nose. "Your majesty, I searched all over the castle. No sign of princess." Petra says as she puts her sword in its scabbard. Just as the queen was going to send out a group of guards, the princess walks in, humming to herself and holding a bright red flower with yellow anthers and filaments. She has the goofiest smile spread across her face. No matter how hard she tries, she could not stop smiling. "...Wow. What has got you all happy?" Petra asks and Jesse giggles. "Oh, nothing. Just thinking about something someone asked me." She smiles before walking to her room, placing the flower behind her left ear. Once Jesse is out of earshot, Luna looks at Petra, who has a confused look on her face. "Something is up." The queen says, moving her hair out of her face and Petra looks at her. "No doubt about that, your highness. Want me, Axel and Olivia to investigate?" Petra asks and the queen shakes her head. "Only investigate if this continues beyond the end of the week." Petra nods then Luna sits down in her throne.
Jesse walks over to her bed before sitting down and pulling the flower out of her hair. '...It was really stupid of me to say yes but I really think I should go and I made the right choice. I mean, if I'm careful, they shouldn't realize I'm not one of them, right?' Jesse looks at the flower before watching it get surrounded by a transparent purple light. It floats over to her vanity set desk. The purple light remains around the flower and Jesse starts to slowly shut her eyes. She holds onto her locket, which is now around her neck, and she lets out a yawn. She had no idea how exhausted she really was until that very moment. She lets out another yawn before laying down on her bed, not even putting on her pajamas or paying attention to what time of night it was. She shuts her eyes and holds onto her pillow before drifting off to sleep.
"Oh Jesse... Thank you for keeping them distracted. You did your job correctly and you have made me proud." A distorted voice says. "..." Jesse looks around. Everything is dark. All the people around are mere shadows holding weapons, ready to fight. "What are you talking about?" Jesse tries to act strong but her voice is weak and scratchy. Jesse realized that the distorted voice was Luna's. Luna walks up to Jesse before putting a hand on her shoulder. "Thank you for your service." Luna smirks before pulling out a sword and stabbing it into Jesse's torso. "NO!"
"NO!" Jesse quickly sits up and puts her hand on her hand on her torso. Her smile was now gone and she has cold sweat running down her head. Her heart is pounding in her chest and she had tears in her eyes. "..." Jesse lays back down, and tries to use her powers to make her go back to sleep, but she ends up just... staring at the ceiling, thinking about her nightma... 'Daymare'. She lets out a shaky sigh before tearing up and hugging onto her pillow. It seemed she was almost afraid of letting go.
