Chapter 3
Jesse and her friends ride their night terrors over to the stables. It was going to be morning very soon and they all knew that it probably wasn't a good idea for them to stick around the day kingdom any longer. Olivia and Axel look at each other when Jesse gets off of her night terror. "We should probably go tell Luna that we are back from... from scouting." Olivia says. Jesse nods then looks over at Petra, "You go with them. I would like to spend a moment by myself." Petra looks at Jesse prepared to say that she had to stay by her at all times, but before she could say anything, Jesse crosses her arms, "That is an order, Petra." Petra takes a deep breathe before nodding, "Yes, your highness." Petra says before turning around and walking towards the palace with Axel and Olivia.
Jesse looks at her night terror before running her pale hand over its black mane. The night terror looks at Jesse, the stars in the sky are reflecting it his eyes. He lets out a muffled noise and Jesse pats his neck, "I know, bud. It was nice to be able to ride you beyond the kingdoms boundaries but... I don't think we can do that again. Not for a long time, at least." Jesse shuts her eyes and lets out a sigh, "I know you'd love to leave this place every now and again, and I can't say I blame you." Jesse opens her eyes and her night terror looks at her. She places her forehead on his muzzle. She takes a deep breath, not ready to walk into the castle and face her mother. Her night terror pulls away then turns around to its trough to take a drink of water. Jesse sighs before turning around and walking to the palace. She walks up to the palace doors before turning around and looking up at the sky. It is just dark. No color except for black. No stars shining, no setting moon, no rising sun. Nothing. She takes in a deep breath as the guards, wearing black and grey darkened armor, open the palace doors. Jesse looks at the guards and shows a nervous smile, "Thank you," She smiles but the guards remain still. She slowly walks into the palace, hoping to avoid her mother and be able to just slip into her room. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. The second Jesse starts to walk passed the throne room, she hears a very familiar voice.
"Jessica." Luna says, walking out of the throne room, her hands behind her back. She has on a long, dark purple dress that shows her body shape. She was very all and clearly very slender. The dress had no design and the sleeves go all the way down to her wrists. Her hair is pulled into a tight bun and her bangs are dangling in front of her eyes. A silver crown, filled with blue diamonds rests upon her head.
"Oh um... Hello, mother." Jesse says, quickly pulling off her cloak and holding it behind her. Her hair is all messed up from when she had the cloak hood on her head.
"I heard you all came back from scouting. What did you find?" Luna says, walking up to her daughter, getting close and personal.
"We did, mother... But shouldn't you be asking Petra, and not me? She's the one that keeps an eye on every little thing." Jesse says before backing away, trying to back up and get to the stone staircase so she could get to her room.
"..." Luna looks at Jesse before her eyes turn black for a second. Jesse's cloak gets pulled away from her. Luna reaches out and grabs the cloak, "You were at that blasted day kingdom again, weren't you?" Luna glares at Jesse. When the young princess doesn't answer, Luna growls under her breath, "Go to your room, young lady. We will talk about this tomorrow evening."
"Yes, mother." Jesse turns around before making a beeline for the stairs
Once Jesse makes it back to her room, she walks over to her vanity set and sits down. She looks at her reflection before letting out a deep breath she had been holding in. She puts her hands on her face and lets out a shaky sigh. She hates facing Luna. Ever since that unfortunate night, Luna never trusted Jesse with anything except for training to be queen, and even that was questionable. Jesse also doesn't trust Luna. She just feels like she lost both her parents in one fell swoop, and she had no one to turn to except for her friend Olivia, Axel and Petra. Jesse puts her hand on her neck before realizing that something was missing... Her golden locket her father gave her when she was a little kid was missing! She had the charmed necklace tucked under her dress, but the chain must have snapped. "...Crap." She whispers. She knew she had to go looking for it. Even if it meant returning to the day kingdom. Jesse slowly looks out her window before seeing the sky turn into a dark purple. The sun is going to rise any moment and that meant that Jesse had to go to bed. Jesse slowly stands up before walking to her closet. She pulls off her dress before pulling a lavender colored, silk nightgown. She swiftly puts the gown on then she sits on her bed. She lays back, not pulling her blankets on top of her. Jesse shuts her eyes before whispering, "Good morning, dad... Wherever you are." Her eyes turn purple as they shut and her mind gets clouded with purple figures and old memories. She smiles a little before drifting off to sleep.
The sun starts to shine upon the land and Lukas opens his eyes. He blinks a few times and his room starts to get less blurry. He slowly sits up before letting out a loud yawn and stretching. He rubs his eyes before looking out at his balcony and realizing he didn't close his glass door. "Huh... So, last night DID happen. I did see the night time and I did meet that girl." Lukas stands up before walking up to his balcony and looking out of the glass at the light purple and orange, cloud filled sky. He sees something shine on the ground and kneels down to pick it up. He reaches his hand out then sees that it is a golden locket with a black design. He picks up the locket to get a better look then he sees a black moon and star design. "Maybe it belongs to that girl..." He mutters to himself before standing up. He places the locket on his dresser before grabbing a blue t-shirt, a pair of jeans and a white button up shirt. He holds his clothes before walking out of his room to go wash up and get changed. After getting washed up and changed, Lukas walks back into his room to find his mother sitting on his bed and admiring a trinket she holds in her hands. She has on a white cashmere pajama set and her hair is pulled into a loose braid. She looks tired but also beautiful and elegant. "Hi, mom." Lukas says before going to his dresser, looking for the locket. "Looking for something?" Solar asks as she looks at the locket. She tries to open it but ends up failing. "Yeah. My... My friend lost her locket and I was going to return it to her today." Lukas says before looking at his dresser, noticing the locket is gone. Solar brushes her blonde hair out of her brown eyes before standing up and holding out the locket, "Is it this one?" Solar asks and Lukas nods. "That's the one." Solar looks at the locket, admiring the black marble moon and star. Her eyes narrow then she takes a deep breath. "...I won't tell you what to do. But, look. If this friend is what I think she is, you better be careful." Solar drops the locket into her sons hands then she walks to Lukas' bedroom door. She turns her head and looks at her son. Lukas looks at the locket before looking at his mom. "I always am."
Lukas slowly tucks the locket into his shirts breast pocket then he looks at his reflection in the mirror above his dresser. "Time for another day of preparing to be this kingdoms future king, helping people, and so on." Lukas says as he looks away. He looks at the glass door that connects his room to his balcony then he quickly closes the door. He smiles to himself as a flash of memory from the night before appears in his mind. "Please come back soon miss, so I can return your locket and maybe learn your name." The prince tells himself then he walks out of his room, down a few rows of stairs, passed the castles main rooms and towards the castle doors, ready to take on the day.
