Dawnkit snuggled more into Whitefall's slippery and warm tail. She had heard Greenkit already outside, playing with Flowerpool's kits, born heartbeats before them. What ever they were thinking, she felt like never opening her eyes. Just then, Greenkit raced into the nursery, no longer smelling of milk and warmth, but a salty, musky scent. She leaned in on Dawnkit, whispering, "Wake up, Dawnkit! We're waiting for you..." Her voice faded as she flounced out again.

"Dawnkit, wake up!" It was her mother. She had almost fallen asleep again. She mewed indignantly to show that she didn't want to come out yet. But her mom licked her until she gave in and opened her eyes.
Wow, the nursery is so big! Dawnkit looked around in awe. She'd thought that the world only existed around her and Whitefall, but it was way bigger! Her mother ushered her out of the nursery, "Go play with Greenkit," she smiled encouragingly over me.
"Greenkit! Greenkit!" Someone mewed. "Look! Dawnkit opened her eyes!"
Everyone suddenly turned towards the staggering wet kit with sand sprayed all over. It was very embarrassing. Dawnkit kept her head slightly down as she padded over to the kits. "May I play with you?" She asked timidly.
"Of course!" Blackkit mewed enthusiastically. "Here, keep this in the air!" He then threw a wad of seaweed to her, and shrieking with excitement, she reached up to bat the sodden ball back. "It's a seagull!" She threw back her head and laughed.
