It was rare when the team decided to take a day off. They were always working on their story to make it better then it already was, but they also needed time for other things.
For Phil, today it was grocery shopping.
Brian usually did all the grocery shopping but today he was at work, and they were running very low on food.
Very low. Phil had to eat a piece of toast with only sugar sprinkled on top for dinner last night.
Plus Brian was complaining about being out of his favorite kitty ice cream sandwiches.
It was a whole mess.
Just as he was ready to head Dan texted him.
Danny Boi: heyyy hailey's being a meanie >:'( let's hangout
Phil: I'm going grocery shopping, I'll pick you and you can come with
He got into the car and speed off to Hailey and Dan's apartment, Dan stepped out just as he arrived.
"Thanks for coming," Dan said as he got in the car and bucked up. "I was bored and Hailey doesn't wanna do anything." He pouted.
Phil snorted. "Poor baby, anyway, where do you wanna go, anywhere specific?"
Dan shrugged. "Anywhere is fine, just has to have a cart big enough to carry me and all our groceries."
Phil frowned as he started the car up. "There's no way in hell I'm hauling you around the grocery store in a cart."
Dan snorted. "We'll see about that.

Fun fact. Phil can still, at his grown age, never say no to Dan.
As soon as they got situated, stuff already and off the car, Dan hurried over to the nearest cart and hopped inside.
At first Phil refused. They were adults, twenty five years old, they didn't need to be acting like children.
But Dan jutted out his bottom lip and fluttered his eyelashes at Phil, it wasn't cute or anything, just really funny. So he agreed to push him around in the cart.
"This is great." Dan bounced a little in the cart. "I feel like I'm four again, can you buy me some chocolate mummy?"
"Please don't make this weird."
Phil's grocery list was very strange. You'd think by the time they were twenty five they'd have a sense of what to eat and how to balance a basic diet.
Sadly, the reality was that's not how it went.
Most of the time they'll get ingredients for one actually meal to make, like spaghetti sause and pasta, or some broth and vegetables for soup. Other then that it was basically noodles, cereal and freezer food any other night.
Phil sighed. They really needed to get their act together.
"Okay, we need some eggos and vanilla ice cream." Dan stated.
"Okay, is that all?"
"Yep."
Phil looked at Dan strangely. "You're...sure?"
"Bro, haven't you ever tried a eggo and vanilla ice cream sandwich at three am before? Heaven."
"Did you just call me bro?"
"That's beside the point," Dan cut in. "You need to try it, it's the best midnight snack, it taste delicious and it's really unhealthy, so you know you'll never eat it when your fully awake."
Phil shook his head. That was absolutely mad he'd never try that. It practically spells out unhealthy, no, nope, no way.
"Two tubs of vanilla and two box of eggos then?"
"Of course."

After some arguing with Dan about the proper way to bag groceries, they were on there way down to The Vintage, a coffee shop that had been there since they were teens. They used to go there all the time, it was sorta their thing.
"I'll order, go find us a table."
"Aye aye Captain Danny."
"...leave before I make you pay for your own coffee."
Phil strutted away to find them a table. Their usual spot at the back was none existant. Now replaced by a sofa and a coffee table, the small table for two was probably chucked away somewhere no one could ever find it.
So he found they another table near some windows close to the couch. He hadn't been here in so long, he'd only come because Dan suggested.
The devil himself came back with two cups of coffee. It was funny seeing Dan's abnormally large cup of coffee next to Phil's medium. He never understood why that boy would pay six bucks for a large when a medium was just as fine.
"They took away our spot." Dan pouted.
Phil laughed. "Yeah, sorta sad, we had so many tender moments in that spot."
"You mean like that time you spilled coffee on my crouch."
"Dan shut, honesty just-"
"And then you insisted on wiping me down with a napkin afterward."
"Oh come on I didn't-"
"You were practically begging to wipe my crouch"
Phil kicked Dan under the table. Who in return kicked back. They kicked each other back and forth for a while before Phil felt his ankle throbbing and stopped.
They sat and talked about work for a while. Dan was just the person Phil needed in his life, he could draw his characters just as he invisioned them. His art style was perfect for the story they were trying to tell.
He examined Dan slurp down his cup. He looked down at his finished one and reached over just as Dan finished drinking to snatch his.
Dan rolled his eyes buy continued talking as Phil went ahead and demolished his drink.
"I never asked, but why do you always grab a large for? They cost two pounds extra! Two pounds!"
Dan looked at him softly, clearly amused. "Do you honestly not know?"
"Well clearly not."
Dan smiled. "I would get a large for your sake mostly."
Phil frowned. "What are you talking about."
"Well you would always finish yours and would be wanting more, I got a large so by the time you were done with yours I had already gotten tired of mine, so you could drink the rest that I had left over."
Phil looked at Dan. He brought out a little smile as he saw a blush rise upon Dan's cheeks.
"You truly are the sweetest man I've ever met Howell."
Dan covered his face in his hands bashful. "Phil you're so stupid."
Phil laughed. "Come on, I should be getting you home, wouldn't want to worry Haily."
Dan smiled and took Phil's hand, which he offered Dan when he got up.
They walked out the store and held hands all the way to Phil's car.
