"Janus thinks you're doing the right thing Janus does." Said Janus slithering beside her. "Even if little duck is running out of time."

"Sure," Said Luminous looking at the pocket watch. Her time was running out, but she had to keep going regardless.

She felt bad about leaving Abyss, but at least she knew she was safe. Those crazy village animals were going to burn Vainglorious alive if she didn't get there as soon as she could.

BANG!

A bullet whizzed by Luminous' head, blowing her short hair around by the force. Luminous turned around to see Peter, his gun pointed at her.

"You know I never miss on purpose, witch. I got something to ask you." He took it as a yes when Luminous just stood by panting. "Why are you going back for that little boy witch? I heard your kind doesn't have feelings like empathy or kindness. So why risk your life foolishly for someone else? It doesn't make any sense."

"Sorry, but I guess that just means I don't make much sense." Said Luminous turning to walk away. "I just want Vainglorious back. I want all my friends back safe."

Peter pointed his gun at the back of Luminous' head as she ran away. Until she was out of rage, then he put his gun down and yelled.

"They're just innocent villagers! It's why I became a sharif, so I can protect them!"

"Janus thought that was a good ruse Janus did. All that stuff about wanting to protect friends." Said, Janus slithering up to Luminous.

"It's not a ruse I mean it. I'll even protect you, Janus, I promise." Said Luminous.

By the time Luminous got to town, the sky was a bright hue of orange and pink. The lantern lights that were on strings strung around the clay buildings were blinking awake as she stepped into town.

The crowd of animals was surrounded in the square in front of the swan statue. Vainglorious was tied to a stake above everyone, his white bangs covering his eyes as his head lulled. His navy blue trench coat blowing in the wind. Widely was standing tall in front of the crowd with a torch in his hands.

"Today marks the end of another witch's life! This crafty demon spawn had tried to escape through ice magic. But the fire will bring to light this witch for the evil it is. So bring it the witches darkness will cast it into the light by morning!"

"Will cast it into the light by morning!" Cried the other villagers.

Wiley then tossed the torch into the woodpile underneath Vainglorious lighting it on fire.

"Vainglorious!" Cried Luminous.

Vainglorious' head snapped up, that's when Luminous noticed he was gaged and that his face was streaked with tears. Vainglorious was beginning to struggle his voice muffled by his gage.

Luminous took a step towards him when a monkey hit her in the stomach with his cane. She doubled over coughing with pain.

"Witch!" Screamed some of the animals catching some of the other's attention.

A pig swung a garden shovel at her, Luminous subconsciously hit the heart-shaped armor button. Her pink pj's with black shorts turned into her armor chest plate and pink leotard. She blocked him with her armguards pushing him back down. She went to hit him while he was down and cowering when she remembered what Peter said.

"They're just innocent villagers! It's why I became a sharif, so I can protect them!"

That's when she saw that all these people had on them were rakes, shovels, gardening hoe, and variable vegetables. One of the villagers threw a tomato at Luminous. It hit her in the face.

Luminous got up by her elbows and began running towards Vainglorious. The villagers continued pelting her with vegetables and farming tools.

"Vanglorio-"

The armor took too many hits from the farmers and disappeared back into the armor buttoned. Luminous fell back onto the ground. Widely stepped into the crowd, his long tan jacket swishing with his steady movements. Luminous looked up at the huge coyote towering over her though the tomato splattered over her eye slushing down over the cuts on her face.

"You really thought you could come into my town huh witch?" Sneered Widely.

Luminous looked towards Vainglorious, the fire climbing higher up on the stake he was tied to.

"Vainglorious..."She coughed reaching a hand out towards him.

Widely stepped on her hand with his boot. Luminous bit her lip to keep from crying.

"Wildly stop!"

Wildy turned around to spot Peter standing there with his gun pointed at him. Sweat dripping from his cowboy hat down to his brown fur.

"You sticking up for the witches now bunny boy?" Said Widely through gritted teeth.

"She just wants to get her friend back, she's not here to cause any harm. I became sheriff to protect people. How is doing any of this helping our citizens? Were all just living in irrational fear, Just let them go Widely."

"Let them go? I've worked too hard to become mayor of this town, let them go. I'll never let them go!"

Wildy pulled his gun out pointing it at Luminous when the sunrise.

Poof!

Luminous turned from a girl into a duck again. Widely lost her in her buddle of close that now lay on the dirt ground.

Luminous popped out of her pink pj's head hole flying over Wildy's head. Widely aimed his gun up at her, Peter went to pull his trigger on Wildy when a huge bear tackled Widely to the ground. Luminous blinked at the bear surprised.

"Braver? I thought you said you guys weren't going to help."

"How brave would I be if I let a little girl fight all by herself?"

"Also, a friend of yours said you were in danger. She also made a position that can turn you human again." Said a Havaligna running up next to her.

"Tarra?"

"Just keep flying, and drink this! You need to save your friend."

Tarra thew her the potion and Luminous caught it with her webbed feet.

BANG!

Widely shot at Luminous from the sky and she dropped it to the dirt ground. The position rolled between the mob's feet being kicked around.

"No!" Qacked Luminous.

She swooped down when Widely grabbed her out of the sky. Peter pulled out his gun and shot Widly's wrist making him let go of Luminous. Luminous swooped down and grabbed the position and continued to fly towards Vainglorious. By this time the flames burned through the ropes Vainglorious was tied to, he began to fall directly into the flames.

Luminous uncapped the bottle and drank the position, she kept her momentum as she turned from a duck back into a girl. She intercepted Vainglorious right as she turned human, hugging him tightly in her arms.

They went over the flames tumbling onto the dirt on the other side. When they stopped tumbling Vainglorious opened his gray eyes to find Luminous looking right back at him. They both panted for a good moment before Vainglorious felt his skin boil.

"Grrr! Ahhh! Why did you come back here for me Stupid!" Yelled Vainglorious pounding his fist on her chest. "You're out of time on that stupid clock aren't you? What happened to rescue your stupid friends! You should have left me stupid, stupid!" His pounding became slower as he began sobbing.

"Vainglorious, I'm glad you're okay." Luminous smiled, breathing heavily.

The sun begins to rise all the way in the sky. The light glowing on Luminous' warm face. Vainglorious' cheeks began to brush pink as he stared at her. His usual condescending smirk turned up into a soft smile That's when he remembered what the robed man in the underworld said to him.

"Frozen internally, judged for what you are from when you were young. Melting heart, fall in love and you will be undone. Searching for power but from the crown's power, you run. Little Icarus flew too close to the sun."

Cold fear ran through Vainglorious' veins. He stared at Luminous' smiling face in this new light.
