15.Whos Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
Luminous sat at a table wearing a light blue dress, with a huge white bow on top of her short blonde hair. She picked up the teacup in her hands swirling the drink around.
She stared hard into the drink at her reflection, but something about it was off. Her reflection looked shadowy like a corrupt and was fidgeting around in the drink. She peered at it harder and her reflection turned to face her its red eyes staring back intensely.
"Ahh!" Shrieked Luminous dropping the cup.
It shattered into pieces on the ground below.
"Oi! What did you do that for? It's not like the drink was poisoned."
Luminous looked up to see Barrett sitting across from her. His leg resting on top of the other. His red hood pulled up over his head so that she could only see the bottom half of his face.
"What are you hiding?" Asked Luminous.
"Hiding? Listen Luminous, If it was poisoned that would suggest that something was in it that wasn't supposed to be there. But at last, what's supposed to be there is there see." Barrett smiled.
He spread his palm out towards the broken glass and spilled tea that was scatted on the grassy ground below. The glass slowly put itself back together like it was going back in time, then the tea went back into the cup before going into Barrett's hand.
"If there was something inside of me like that I would know about it. It would be impossible otherwise!" Yelled Luminous pointing a finger at him. "And I can think of at least 100 impossible things before breakfast."
"Impossible? What is done can not be undone, yes. But you're not the only one here who is a dirty liar with secrets." Smiled Vainglorious sitting on Barrett's lap, his mouse ears twitch on his wavey white hair. "But oh Luminous, you promised me, remember?" He stuck out his tongue wiggling his pinky finger.
"You're not the only one, Vainglorious, you know? The only one with a false promise." Barrett pressed the cup up to his lips.
"You know if you drink something labeled poison it's bound to disagree with you sooner or later."
Barrett turned to Concord who was sitting at the table next to Luminous wearing a green top hat. His chin pressed into his cane as he leaned on it.
"What did you just say to me?" Asked Barrett.
"You know if you drink something labeled poison it's bound to disagree with you sooner or later." He repeated.
"Oh? In that case." Barrett shrugged pitching Vainglorious' pointed nose to get his mouth to open.
"No don't!" Luminous jumped up from her seat.
"Why Luminous, what difference does it make? You're knee-deep already." Said Barrett.
Luminous looked all around to find herself knee-deep in tea. It kept growing and growing. She looked around at the porcelain teapot she was trapped inside. Until she spotted Master mouse sitting on a raft drifting towards her.
"What is done is done you can't turn back, sometimes you have to give in and pack. But whatever you do, don't trust the halfling with the pink eyes, don't trust puppet master S-"
"Luminous! You wench!"
Luminous woke up to a sharp pain across her face.
"Oww..." Luminous wined rubbing her red cheek.
She blinked awake finding that she was still in her pink pajama top and black shorts she was wearing the night before. Looking up her blue eyes meet with an angry twelve-year-old boy wearing a white undershirt glaring down at her.
"Good morning Vainglorious." Yawned Luminous. "Aww, are those blue dragons on your shorts? That's so cute."
"Don't good morning me. What are you doing inside my sleeping bag?"
"It was cold last night." Said Luminous.
"So? That's not my fault. It's bad enough I have to share a tent with you. I don't need your sweaty body rubbing up against me while I sleep!"
"It's not just me. You looked cold while you were sleeping. I thought I could warm you up with cuddles."
"Luminous I'm an ice wizard. I don't I can't get-"
Luminous through her arms around Vainglorious giving him a big hug. His face flushed red as her body pressed up against his.
"Gh- get out!" Snapped Vainglorious.
"Huh?"
"Get out of the tent!"
"But-"
A black ankle boot flew past Luminous' head and out the tent flap. Vainglorious picked up another boot and threw it at her.
"I said get out!" He screamed.
She ran out of the tent into the forest.
"Hey! Snobs mc gee! " Luminous heard the Dawn of Fate say from inside the tent. "Wait a minute, hey!"
The next second the Dawn of Fate was thrown out of the tent onto the dirt ground below.
"Rude."
"Good morning Dawn of Fate." Said Luminous.
"Ah, just pick me up."
Luminous went over and picked up the sword off of the ground and strap him to her back.
"Gee, Vainglorious sure was grumpy this morning."
"What is he all skin shy for? You're the girl, you should go back in there and demand the tent."
"It's okay. He also threw his shoe pretty far..."
"So? If that thing lost to the forest that's on him. Let him look for it."
"But what if he-"
"You know what short stuff if you want to look for that shoe go ahead and look for it. Don't let me stop you."
Luminous walked into the forest with the Dawn of Fate. The twisted trees grew thick with moss on them and even thicker fog.
"Hmm, that's strange...it's not usually this foggy in this forest." Said the Dawn of Fate. "In fact I hardly recognize it..."
"Really? Because I'm lost already."
"Seriously!?"
"It's okay I think I..." Luminous looked around until she spotted it. "I see Vainglorious' shoes!"
"Oh goody. You found a prepubescent boy's stinky old shoe mission accomplished!" Dawn of Fate said sarcastically.
Luminous picked up the black ankle boot, underneath it was some dark green twigs twisted into a ring. She picked up the ring and noticed an inscription written across it.
"A young wizard fell in love with a storyteller from kingdom red. He would read her stories every night before bed. It came time to marry-"
"What are you doing out here?"
Luminous jolted, turning around at the sound of the familiar voice.
"Hey, Vainglorious I found your shoe." She said holding it out towards him.
He was back in his blue trench coat and blue pants again today. The only thing missing was his shoes.
"Did you really come out here just to find my shoes for me? Why are you always doing pointless things like that?"
"Doing things like what?"
"No one asked you to do that? What do you get out of finding my shoes anyways? It's not like I'm going to give you an award or anything for it."
"Well of course not. I wasn't expecting an award."
"Then why?"
"Because I like helping you Vainglorious."
Vainglorious' snow-white face turned bright red. He adverted his gray eyes.
"That's stupid. Just give me back my stupid shoe, you idiot." He held out his tiny hand.
Luminous handed Vainglorious his ankle boot. He took off one of his gloves to tie the shoes back on. Luminous felt the palm of her hand and remembered. Oh, the ring!
Before Vainglorious could put his glove back on she quickly slipped the ring onto Vainglorious' middle finger.
"Hey! What are you?!" Yelled Vainglorious swiping his hand away.
"Oh, it's just. I found this ring under your boot. I thought you might like it." Said Luminous scratching the back of her messy short blonde hair.
Vainglorious looked closer at the ring around his middle finger. It looked familiar somehow. Like he had read about it in a book somewhere before... his eyes narrowed when he spotted the inscription underneath.
But before he could read it a snake popped out of the grass. Its fangs heading right towards Vainglorious' face.
"Ahh!"
Vainglorious braced himself when a pair of boots came out of the tree above stomping down on the snake's head.
Luminous looked up at the man the boots belonged to. He had fox ears that sat at top of his straight white hair. He reached out his hand with long sharp fingernails. His pink eyes smiling down at her.
"Why hello. My name is Sly. Puppetmaster Sly."
