Chapter 15 - Laughter Lines and the Lying Bitch
Dawn's POV
The dining hall was swarming with people, and it was a little overwhelming at first. I had to grab Lucy's arm to keep track of her and also Parker who was leading us all through the mass of people.
"Why is it so busy?" I asked Lucy as we zig-zagged through people and around the tables to our designated area.
She laughed. "It's lunch time. Every Midnight Mafia member eats lunch. Same thing with dinner." We paused and glanced around at the hundreds of people gathered in the room. "It's kind of like a big family gathering every day," Lucy added before we continued on.
We walked up to a table, and Lucy sat next to Parker, while I took a seat next to her and another guy on my left who had already been sitting there.
I noticed the food was already out on the table, along with plates. I gave Lucy a questioning look.
She smiled at me while she grabbed a big chunk of some type of meat, and plopped it on her plate. "Like I said, everyone eats lunch, so they just put the food out. Breakfast depends on how late people stay out, so they make you go and get your own food so they don't waste any."
I nodded with a smile as I started piling my plate up with food I never thought I'd eat again.
Chatter floated around the table as we ate. Everyone seemed happy and I smiled at how everything seemed to be going good so far.
I felt a tap on my left shoulder and I turned to see who it was.
The guy next to me was smiling. "Hi I'm Levi, its nice to meet you" he said as he held out his free hand.
"Hi Levi, I'm Dawn as you already know," I said with a smile as I shook his hand.
Levi nodded with a laugh,"That I do."
I laughed and took a good look at him. He had high cheekbones that made his green eyes pop, and short brown hair that looked well kept.
He smirked and I rolled my eyes knowing exactly what he was thinking.
"No I'm not checking you out," I said while giving him a playful shove. "I'm just wondering if you're going to introduce me to everyone."
Levi laughed but nodded his head. "Alright everyone settle down, settle down." he called around the table. Everyone stopped talking and looked at him.
Clearing his throat, Levi smiled. "As you all know we have a new addition to our messed up family of trainees," he said causing everyone to laugh.
It made me smile that they all seemed to get along well enough with one another.
"Now that she has proved herself worthy of at least training with us, I say she should get to know our names!" Levi called out causing the guys and some of the girls to cheer.
I glanced at Lucy beside me and she giggled. "They're a fun bunch to be around."
Nodding at her happily, Levi started going around the table introducing everyone.
He started with the guys first; there was Parker and Xavier who I already knew. He then introduced Lucas and Landon, who were blonde haired twins. Then to Ryan and Spencer who both smirked at me with a little wave making me laugh.
"Wait that's only six..." Levi said after he went through the guys.
"You forgot to count yourself," Landon called from down the table and everyone broke out in laughter.
Levi rolled his eyes. "Of course! How could I forget myself! I'm the best looking guy here."
That statement caused the other guys to erupted with protests causing all the girls to laugh.
"I'm kidding!" Levi had to yell over the guys to get them to calm down.
I could tell that Levi was definitely the jokester out of all the trainees.
"But not really," he quickly whispered to me causing me to laugh.
Levi then introduced the girls; Lucy who I obviously already knew, along with Rachel, Ashley, Margaret, Sage, and Alyson.
They all seemed nicer now, giving me smiles instead of glares like in the training room, except for Alyson who still gave me a glare from next to Xavier.
I chose to ignore it and just greet everyone at once.
"It's nice to meet everyone," I happily called with a small smile and a wave. "No offense, but you're definitely not the bunch I thought would be training with to join a gang."
Everyone laughed at my comment except for Alyson who was still glaring daggers at me. I kept ignoring her though, and continued to enjoy my lunch while talking to everyone else around me.
We were all eating and laughing and having a good time, when I suddenly felt like someone was watching me. I stopped eating for a moment to look around.
My eyes did a quick sweep around the room, and everyone seemed to be having their own conversations at their tables. I looked around some more, and my eyes focused on Jake and Kaiden who were having a deep conversation while glancing towards me every once and awhile.
I accidentally caught Kaiden's eye, and he paused mid-sentence and smirked at me with his piercing blue eyes. Jake turned his head and started staring at me too. With both of them staring at me, I suddenly felt overwhelmed and I quickly turned back around and continued to eat my sandwich while I listened to some pointless story the Alyson was gloating about to Xavier.
"And then I chased her on to another street, and kicked her ass for trying to steal food from me," Alyson finished her story with a smirk.
I could see her constantly glancing at Xavier, and it was obvious she was trying to impress him. At least it was obvious to me anyways.
"What street?" I asked Alyson innocently as I put my sandwich down on my plate.
Everyone stopped their conversations and turned to listen.
Alyson was glaring at me, and I could tell she was starting to get pissed.
"I think it was Flagler," she said with her eyes almost to slits. "But I'm not sure, I was too busy chasing the girl so I could kick her ass and get my stuff back."
Everyone shifted their eyes from Alyson to me, to see what my response would be.
I added a little suspense, sitting there with an innocent smile on my face. "There's no Flagler street in Gainsville." I said calmly, waiting for her to explode.
"I said I think!" she spat while shooting more hateful glares my way. "Who are you to question my story anyways? New trainee."
"Hey, hey. No need to get feisty now," Levi said interrupting our dispute. "Dawn was just finding fault in a story that probably isn't true," he said finishing with a smirk.
A loud chorus of Ooh's erupted around the table making me laugh and make Alyson look taken aback with shock.
"Why you..." she said as she glanced around the table looking for someone to side with her.
She softened her expression when she turned and looked at Xavier. "You believe me right Xavier?" she attempted to ask in a sweet voice, but it just ended up sounding desperate.
I locked eyes with Xavier and I was surprised with his reply.
"Dawn has a point Alyson." He said while still looking at me. "How could you not know what street you were on? How were you supposed to get back?" He broke eye contact with me and looked at Alyson who had her mouth wide open.
Xavier shrugged and took a bite of his sandwich. "What? I'm just saying."
Everyone was looking at Alyson and she eventually shouted at us all.
"Just stop looking at me and eat your damn lunch!" She yelled as we all looked away from her.
I picked my sandwich up and started eating it in satisfaction. I may have made one enemy, but I sure just made a hell of a lot more friends.
