Imagine 12: My Love (Request)

Author's Note:

Dear Readers,

Hey, the requester of the Imagine wanted me to dedicate this to David Bowie. So, I hereby dedicate this Imagine to David Bowie and his memory. I would actually dedicate it to him but it gets kinda complicated so I couldn't do that.

David's Age: 69

Katie's POV:

I yawned slightly as I worked on breakfast. It was still early in the morning and I wasn't quite awake yet. I was smiling to myself and absentmindedly humming Absolute Beginners when someone hugged me from behind and settled his chin on my shoulder.

I jumped a little and turned my head enough so that I could see who it was. It was David. I shouldn't have been surprised. He was the only one who was around at this time. Our daughter was off to school and we were alone in the house.

"How is Katie this morning?" He asked with a smiled and I returned the smile.

"She is fine. How is David this morning?" He thought for a moment.

"As good as an old man can be." I laughed a little and turned enough in his embrace to give him a quick kiss.

"You're not that old." I said as he lightly stroked my dirty blond hair. He chuckled slightly and kissed the junction of my neck and shoulder, sending a shiver down my smile.

"If you say so." He said as he gave my cheek a soft kiss and began to set the table for me as I finished breakfast up. Our meal was quiet but it wasn't a strained sort of silence. No, it was a pleasant quiet. We sipped on our coffee while we ate. When we were done, I stood up and took the dishes to the sink and as I was washing them I thought about our marriage.

My family had frowned on our marriage. Not David in and of himself. No, they liked him well enough. It was his age. He was thirty-nine years my senior. It was quite a difference and it had been a shock when I, at nineteen, had brought home a man of fifty-eight and introduced him as my boyfriend. That had been eleven years ago and we had married when I was twenty and our daughter had been born when I was twenty-two.

After a while my parents and the world round became accustomed to our unusual marriage. At the first, the media had labeled my husbands a cradle robber, frowning on his choice of a young bride. I had been labeled a gold-digger, only interested in the wealth my much older husband had brought with him to the marriage.

I didn't want his money. I wanted him. And, I got him! We were very happy! I couldn't have been as happy with anyone else. We loved each other; age be cursed!

I laughed a little to myself and it caught David's attention.

"Something up, my love?" He asked as he set his paper to the side and walked over to help me dry the dishes.

I shook my head and kisses his slightly wrinkled cheek.

"No, I was just thinking about our marriage. And, how happy I am. How happy we are. And how much in love." He smiled and captured my lips in a gentle kiss.

"I am very happy. Are you?" I nodded and kissed him again, the dishes forgotten.

"I am more than very happy." He smiled and pulled me into an embrace, kissing me lovingly.
