Epilogue

The years pass by quickly when everything is finally going right. Tobias and I both graduated, and had pretty good GPA's. We both went to University of Chicago, along with Christina, Zeke, Uriah and Marlene. Will went to Harvard, being himself, and Shauna, Lauren and Lynn went to University of Illinois at Chicago. We still stayed close, even through the rough spots.

Christina and Will were the first to move away, to New York. There, they got married when they were 24, four years ago. I remember the wedding vividly, it was extravagant and beautiful. Christina works in fashion design, mainly for smaller celebrities. Her company is growing fast, and we all think she is going to be amazing. Will started a law firm with a family friend, and they are massively popular in New York. Christina had their first child when they were 26, and she is now 2 years old. Her name is Jasmin, and she is just as sassy as her mama. My best friend came out of the drama of high school with a wonderful life, and I miss her so much. Every day I am proud of her life, and let her know every time we talk.

Zeke and Shauna are actually both in the police force, down in Indianapolis. Shauna got pregnant while she was in college, so she and Zeke got married when she was 22. I was a bridesmaid, and helped her plan most of the details. They were the first ones to get married out of our friend group. They have two daughters, Eliana and Rosie, who are 6 and 3. They enjoy their job and their perfect little family, and I've always been happy for them.

Marlene and Uriah got married right after Zeke and Shauna, after they had already bought a house. Surprisingly, they moved to California. Marlene is a vocal coach, and Uriah started a food truck. We all thought he was going to crash and burn but he is very successful. He sells home style foods in the heart of L.A., and has two trucks right now. He's even in the process of opening a small restaurant, with the help of some investors. We usually go to Marlene and Uriah's  house a few days during the summer, for a nice vacation. They were probably the most drastic change from our lives in Chicago.

Lauren and Lynn work at a gym, that Tobias and I opened up. They are trainers for us, Lauren does yoga, and Lynn holds cycling classes. They adopted a little boy, Justin, who likes to follow me around at work. They live in a penthouse together in the heart of the city, and they have an adorable family. They're even thinking of adopting a little girl soon, so Justin isn't an only child. They are our closest friends now, since they work for Tobias and I.

As is known, Tobias and I opened up a gym. I wanted to be a trainer, before everything happened, but now I manage most of the business here. Our gym is called The Dauntless Determined, and we actually have many committed clients. We have normal gym amenities, obviously, and a pool. Our most popular workouts are the classes, yoga, cycling, lifting and tumbling. Tobias and I got married when we were both 26, two years ago. I've had trouble having children, and it's been hard. About a year ago, I had a miscarriage. It was the hardest time of my life, worse than losing a limb. The doctor said I have only a five percent chance of a successful pregnancy, but I've been trying relentlessly. We've been trying relentlessly.

Life is pulling together, despite hardships like that. I am on my feet, well, foot, and doing just fine.

"Bea, babe, we are going to be late for the family dinner!" Tobias calls from downstairs.

I sigh, smoothing out my skirt. I can't say I'm not beyond excited, it's my favorite day of the year. I've just been feeling under the weather for a couple weeks. Maybe a month or two. Tobias knocks on the door frame, leaning against the wall, "Are you ready, love?"

"Always." I sigh, grabbing my leather jacket. It's the one Christina gave me, the first day we met. I've never forgotten it. It was a small act of kindness after a time of darkness. It meant the world.

Tobias and I walk down the stairs, hands intertwined. Dauntless Diner is only a short walk away, but we still drive. I get out of breath pretty fast. We pull into the parking lot, next to a red mom van. The license plate is New York, telling me who it is. Tobias turns off the car, and goes around to open the door for me. He picks me up by my waist, making me giggle in surprise, "Tobias!"

He kisses my cheek, setting me on the ground, "I see no problem!"

We hold hands once more, walking into the familiar place. "Tris! Four!" We are greeted by yells from across the restaurant, and I spot everyone running for us.

I laugh as Christina picks me up, crushing me with her hug. Will shakes Toby's hand, nodding, "Good to see you man."

Shauna and Marlene pull me away from my best friend, Shauna laughing, "What are we? Chopped liver?"

I squeeze them both, "How are the Pedridiots doing?"

"We are right here!" Uriah picks me up from behind, spinning me in a circle.

I laugh, smacking his arm, "I don't need you to man handle me, you buffoon!"

He sets me down next to my wonderful husband, who puts a comforting arm over my shoulder. We walk over to the booth, one we sit at every year. I sit between Tobias and Christina, comfortable.

"I think it's official." I grin, "Let the tenth annual family dinner commence!"

----------------------------------------------------

After nearly two hours of laughing over inside jokes and catching up on our crazy lives, the girls head back to my house, the guys out to the bar. It's tradition, every year, on October twentieth, everyone goes to Dauntless Diner. The girls spend the night at our house, and the boys go to the bar, then Lynn and Lauren's penthouse.

I unlock the door, letting them in. I already threw some pillows and blankets in the living room to get ready. "Doesn't anyone feel bad leaving four kids at your Mom's house?" Christina asks me as she jumps on a bean bag.

I shrug, "She misses having little ones at the house. It's her favorite time of the year."

The others laugh, probably wondering how someone could enjoy needy little kids. As we get to the kitchen, to get out snacks, I get unusually nauseous. I hold my stomach, shaking my head. It's been happening when I eat most of anything.

"Are you okay Tris?" Lynn asks, putting a hand on my shoulder.

I nod, "Just a little stomach b-"

"Called it!" Christina screeches.

"I just lost ten bucks!" Lauren whines.

"What the hell are you talking about?" I ask, leaning against the kitchen island.

"You're glowing, Tris!" Christina laughs.

I roll my eyes, my brain not quite piecing together what they're saying. Lynn shakes her head, smirking, "Is it not obvious Tris?"

A split second clicks in my mind, "Oh! You think I'm pregnant!"

Christina grins, "You have been trying..."

"And you had morning sickness," Marlene adds.

"That was the flu!" I defend. My body has been growing a bit, and I did have 'morning sickness' for while. If I was pregnant, it would already be ten weeks. I'm not even showing anything.

"Sure, the flu." Lauren laughs.

Christina digs around in her purse, "If you're so sure, then why don't you take a pregnancy test?"

I grab the tiny stick from her hand, "Fine, whatever."

While they snicker outside the door, I, do what needs to be done. I set it on the counter, since we have to wait ten minutes. "You know this is ridiculous, right?" I sigh, opening the door.

"Sure, sure." Christina laughs, leading me to the kitchen. While we wait, I pop some popcorn in the microwave, while the other heat up some pre-made snacks.

"Oh Trissy-poo!" Lauren sings, tapping my shoulder.

I roll my eyes, "Nobody has called me that since high school."

Lynn shakes her head at her wife, "I think she just meant to say it's been ten minutes.

Suddenly it all comes crashing onto me. I could be pregnant. I could be a mom, finally. Christina grabs my hand, "You'll be okay. No matter what."

I walk into the bathroom, the girls surrounding me. My shaky hands pick up the test, nervous and excited.

Two faint pink lines display themselves.

I just started a family.
