Chapter 45: Flying Out

"You should've eaten before we got here, I am not buying any of this expensive airport food!" Marlene scolds, examining the overpriced options for the variety of meals.

"But I'm hungry Mar!" Uriah whimpers, pouting his lip.

She narrows her eyes, "No means no, I'm not your mother Uriah."

I snort, "Yeah, she's not your mother Uriah. You two can work out whatever this is, I'm going to go sit by the gate."

Marlene groans, "You're leaving me with this idiot?"

"I don't want to deal with him!" I exclaim, dramatically tossing my arms in the air.

Before Marlene can object with another witty comment, I spin on my heel and rush back towards the gate. Now that we've all gotten our luggage checked in, and gone through security, the whole class that is going on the trip is anxiously awaiting near the loading area. We all got here hours before we actually needed to, so there's some extra time to dawdle around.

As I approach the others, Tobias let's out a pathetic moan, "BumbleBea, I'm tired!"

I roll my eyes, jumping into his lap, "Hi tired, I'm Tris."

He pushes me off of him, and I fall face first onto the rough-carpeted floor. It takes a few swift movements for me to be back up, staring at Tobias with the rage of hellfire, "Seriously?"

"Don't make Dad jokes you weirdo." He mumbles, rubbing his eyes.

I sit back on top of him, "Just for that, you're carrying me into the plane."

He laughs, "That's fine with me, you're only like a hundred pounds."

I slap his chest, "I'm one hundred and twenty, you jerk."

He busts out laughing, "I can bench more than that."

"Jerk." I mumble, pulling out my phone.

Tobias responds, but I ignore him just to mess around. Just like ten minutes ago, the last time I checked my phone, there are no new notifications.

"I'm tired." I yawn, stretching my arms.

Tobias moves me so I'm laying comfortably on his lap, my head tucked on his shoulder, "Take a nap."

I pulls my legs to my chest, closing my eyes, "You don't have to tell me twice."

It barely takes a few minutes for me to drift off to sleep.

-------------------

I wake inside the plane, confused for a few seconds. We aren't in the air yet, just sitting in the plane. My head is resting against Tobias' shoulder, and Christina is texting on my other side.

"Why didn't you wake me up?" I murmur, rubbing my eyes.

"You were so peaceful, I just carried you in." He explains, kissing my forehead.

I lean upwards to sit straight in my seat, stretching my arms, "Thank you babe, I guess I needed a nap."

"Students, we're taking off soon! Be respectful of the flight attendants and please follow the rules!" Tori shouts from the front of the plane.

Most of the juniors are on this trip, and a few seniors were allowed for supervision. The plane is huge, five seats in a row, so all of our friends a clustered together. Zeke is across from Tobias, Shauna across from Christina, and Lauren, Lynn, Will, Uriah and Marlene are in the row ahead of us.

I kick the seat in front of me, where Lauren is sitting, "Hand me some snacks, I'm hungry."

"Coming right up." She responds, digging in her carry on. Lauren passes back a few bags of snacks which I share with everyone beside me.

I open the bag of miniature cookies, and shove a few in my mouth while the attendant makes the standard announcements. I make sure my belt is secure, and continue munching on the sweet treat.

Before we take off, I turn my phone on airplane mode. The flight is dreadfully long, eight hours, across an ocean, so I have no idea hoe Tobias is surviving this. Even I'm paranoid of an engine failing or crashing somewhere.

"Are you okay?" Tobias asks, as the plane starts rolling. His muscles are tense and he's gritting his teeth.

"I'm fine, do you need me to hold your hand?" I, well, half joke, half mean it.

He grips my frail hand hard, "I'm totally fine, we're just going to be thousands of feet in the air with no protection."

I laugh, leaning my head on his shoulder, "We're alright, I'm here."

"Why are you two so lovey dovey even when you're terrified?" Christina groans, pulling my arm.

I kick her foot, "I don't like heights, he's just being nice."

"Mhm." She mumbles, pulling out a neck pillow.

I throw a cookie at her, which she catches in her mouth. There's a bit of turbulence that catches me off guard, apparently Tobias too because he squeezes my hand. I nuzzle my head in his neck, and he smiles. It's easier for both of us with a little bit of comfort.

------------------------------------------------------------------

"Alright Students, my kids in the blue bus, Amar's in the red, Mr. Kang's follow him, Miss. Matthews the same! We're making our way to the first hotel!" Tori yells as we collect our bags.

Tobias only has two bags, so he grabs my duffel so I don't have to carry as much. Our whole group walks in a herd towards the giant blue bus, which I guess they planned ahead of time for us. Tori unlocks it and climbs into the front, then opens the doors, "Come on in you little shit's, we don't have all day!"

I get on first, laughing, "We love you too Tori! Besides, we don't have anything scheduled until tomorrow."

She smirks, "I know, but how are you supposed to rush two dozen teens into a bus?"

We're part of the first group of juniors to arrive, later another plane is going arrive with more people. I sit in the back, my bags around me, and Christina sits next to me. She has five bags to herself, which I guess is only one more than I have. She just has a suitcase dedicated to shoes.

"I can't believe we are in London! It's only the first stop in two weeks of Europe, this is insane!" She gushes, staring out the window.

I look out, of the window, but all we can see so far is people rushing in and out of the parking lot. Everybody piles onto the bus, most of my friends, and a few other classmates.

"Is everybody on?" Tori yells.

Everybody screams in response, "Yeah!"

She pulls out, and we're finally headed out for two weeks of no stress.
