Chapter 40: Tbh Just a Filler
I toss Susan one of my shirts, laughing, "And you couldn't think to grab a sweater?"
She laughs, grabbing it mid-air, "I was being quick! Dad gave me thirty minutes, so I filled in what I could!"
"Your Dad is a dick."
"I know."
She sits on my bed, as I dig through my closet and pull out an outfit for her. Susan, of course, forgot to grab more than long sleeve shirts and jeans for the October weather, so I'm loaning her some of my sweaters for now. Christina bought too many anyways.
I gather a few of my outfits in my arms, and bring them over to Tobias' room. Now, his bed is pushed closer to the window, and we brought in a spare twin bed and wooden frame to put closer to the door. I've been working on moving my clothes over, but with how much Christina spoiled me, I think I'm going to fill up the entire closet.
"Need help?" Tobias asks, popping up behind me.
I shake my head, "I'm good, for now."
He puts his arms around my waist, and rests his head in the crook of my neck. Just the contact sends shivers down my spine. I spin around, to face him directly. Tobias' hand pulls back my hair, and he stares at me with loving eyes.
"You really are gorgeous, BumbleBea." His voice is soft, comforting.
I cease the space between us, our lips connecting with sparks. His hands creep around my neck, holding my head close to his. I snake my arms around his back, smiling into the kiss.
"Hey Tris, where is th-damn it!" Mom yells.
I scream, falling down onto my ass. She crosses her arms, glaring at us, "Are you sure you can move in with him? I mean, we aren't completely opposed to another child, but that would be really inconvenient, and we honestly don't need another pregnant teenager."
Tobias reaches for my hand, smiling, "It's alright Mrs. Prior, I give you my word, there's nothing to worry about,"
"Are you sure about that? You were getting pretty into it-"
"Mom! Stop!" I interrupt.
She huffs, "I'm sorry Tris, I just don't want another problem. That's all."
"That's not going to happen, I promise."
"How do I know that it won't happen?" She inquires, raising an eyebrow.
I squirm, "Mom, I'm kind of... afraid of intimacy."
She bites her lip, "Oh, okay. Sorry sweetie."
Mom turns on her heel and walks out, leaving me with flushed cheeks and tight fists. "It's alright Bea." Tobias reassures me, kissing my cheek.
I shake out my arms and legs, "Yeah, I know. Mom is like, a creeper, sometimes."
We head back into my room, and help move what I need to my room, including Lucy's toys and things, clothes, and personal books and belongings. I set up my bed with the same dark sheets, and leave a few stuffed animals there. Tobias let's me use the shelf from his house to put my books and knick knacks on.
As I set an old pottery piece next to a frame, a thought crosses my mind, "Tobias, what are you going to do with your old house?"
He shrugs, "I don't necessarily need it, so I guess I'm selling it."
I smile, "When?"
Tobias leans against the shelf, "Why are you asking?"
"Well, what if you just kept it for now, until all four of us are eighteen. Then, Caleb and Susan could move in with their kid."
He grins, "That actually sounds... smart. We could have time to sell all of Marcus' old things too, and renovate for them, "
"Right, and Caleb is 17 now, anyways. He can have the house by next year." I exclaim, everything piecing together.
"What about me and puzzle pieces?" Caleb stops in the room, watching us with Susan on his arm.
"Well, you know how T-Four still has his old house, right?" I begin. They both nod, "Well, instead of selling it, since he already has most of his fathers savings after this whole court thing, we are going to keep it, an renovate. That way, you guys can have a home for your family!"
Susan starts crying, a result from the hormones, and Caleb just seems stunned. "This is insane! I-I don't know what to say!"
They sit on my bed, Susan just crying out of joy into his shirt. "I-I'm so sorry! It's s-so hard not to cry!" She sputters, wiping the tears off of her cheeks.
I sit on her other side, and take her hand, "It's really not that big of a deal, right Four?"
He nods, "I don't need the place anyways, we can renovate it and you just have to sign a contract, Caleb."
"Come on guys, I have to get ready for work." I mention, after a few more minutes of nonsense babbling.
"Alright, we'll move." Caleb says, swinging Susan into his arms.
She starts laughing, as they walk out. It's still weird to see him in such a serious relationship, my brain still tells me that he is a prude.
"Work, you said?" Tobias questions, pulling me from the daze.
"Right, my boss has been a real stickler on time lately." I add, turning to the closet.
"You've only been late once the entire time you've been working there, and only took two days off when I was in the hospital. Can't you let you guard down a bit?" He scolds, sitting while I dig through my clothes.
"No, I don't want to get fi-where the hell is my red polo?" I groan, flicking through the items again.
"You left it in your room Tris." He reminds me, and I immediately run over. Susan doesn't question it as I angrily rummage through my shirts, finally finding the hanger that holds both my khaki pants and red shirt.
I run back to the room and change quickly, seeing there are twenty minutes until I should check in. "Bea, slow down." Tobias' voice is rising, but I ignore it.
In seconds my makeup is done neutral, as per the dress code, and I pull my hair into a tight bun. "Damn, why are you rushing?" He calls out once more, frustrated by my unwillingness to comply.
"As I said, my boss will be on my ass if I'm late." I mumble, slipping on my shoes.
"Yeah, well you won't be. It's like, five minutes away."
"Extra time to get on his good side, isn't it?"
Tobias grabs my arm as I try to brush past him, the grip firm, "BumbleBea, I am just looking out for you. The last time you were rushing this much you fell and broke a finger, just slow down."
He really is just looking out for me, no matter how stubborn I am. There are many reasons I don't want to piss off my boss, but my coworkers have warned me.
"Alright Toby, I'll slow down."
Finally, he lets me go, so I leisurely walk over to my things, and stuff them in a small bag. "Phone...wallet...cards, "
"You're good, have fun at work babe." He mutters, pulling me into a hug. I smile, enjoying his warmth, "Thank you, I love you."
"I love you too."
So, finally, I head off to the one place that might be as bad as school.
