Chapter 16: Angry Pansycakes

"Nope. Nope. Nope." I repeat, running to the TV.

I turn it off, and everybody breathes a sigh of relief. "What is with you and turning off scary movies?" Uriah whines, frowning.

"That is enough, I would like to be able to sleep tonight." I say, standing with my hands on my  hips.

"Oh wah, you pansycake." Uriah mumbles, earning a deserved smack on the head from Marlene.

Zeke stands up, "Hey, why hasn't Four come by? I texted him."

I shrug, biting my lip, "I don't know, maybe he is pouting in his room or something."

Christina looks at me, and raises an eyebrow, "You so know what's going on. You are an awful liar."

I laugh, "No I don't, he could be across the country and I would not care."

Of course, now everybody is suspicious of me. I casually sit down, acting like nothing is wrong. "Well, I'm hungry. Who wants to pitch in for pizza?" Lynn says, pulling out her phone.

Everybody screams in response. I laugh, shaking my head, my friends are idiots.

"Great, I'm getting thin crust pepperoni, a meats pizza, and a veggie lovers. No questions? I wouldn't care anyways." Lynn says quickly, dialing the number.

I chuckle, everything Lynn says is basically saying, "Agree with me or I will kill you."

"So, back to Four, do you think he is okay?" Zeke asks, glaring at me.

I shrug, "Again, I don't care."

Will steps up, letting his Erudite show, "Actually, you are showing so many tell tale signs of lying. Biting your lip, shifty eye movement, denial, and a few others. Either you know something about Four, or you are hiding something else."

I groan, throwing back my head, "What does it matter?"

"Did you do something to him?" Marlene asks, looking at me with confusion.

"I mean, we got into an argument, but it was nothing big. He was just being nosy." I say, like it doesn't even matter.

"Really Tris. You could have told us that. He is probably just sleeping or something." Uriah says, and everybody backs off.

When they start another movie, I head up to my room. I tell them it is to change into pajamas, but really I just want to check on Four through the window. His curtains are barely open, and I can see him lying on his back, shirtless. He has a tattoo, and I see some other mark, but I can't tell what it is because he is too far away.

I really do feel bad now, thinking about it. I shouldn't have pushed him away, and it wouldn't be bad if he took me to get my ribs checked out. I think I should just accept it now, and we don't have to be friends.

I walk over to my closet, actually changing now, into some black fleece pants and a black tank top. I put my hair in a messy bun, and wash off my face. I put some healing ointment on my cuts, and go back downstairs.

"Damn Tris." Uriah says as I walk down.

I go to the couch, "What?"

He looks pitiful, "I didn't realize how bad she beat your face."

I shrug, I didn't look, but it cant be that bad. Christina grabs my hand, "Are you sure you are okay?"

I smile, "Of course, it isn't that bad."

Zeke laughs, choking on some popcorn, "Isn't that bad? Did you look?"

I pull out my phone, and turn on the camera. When it finally loads, the face in front of me is terrifying. It takes a second to register that that face, is mine. There are cuts on the sides of my head, some on my lips, and one across my eyebrow. My nose, eyes, and jaw are all black and blue, and my eyes look slightly swollen.

"Damn..." I trail off, having to close the camera.

I did not need to see that. "Whatever, let's just put another movie on."

Uriah, of course, puts on The Spongebob Movie. We all start screaming at him until he takes it out, "Come on! I love that one!"

Marlene holds her head in her hands, "Why am I dating you?"

I choke on my candy, and start laughing. Christina laughs at me, and hits my back.

Uriah gives her a cheesy smile, "Because you love meee!"

She grins, giving him a kiss, "That I do."

We all fake gag, and Zeke screams, "No PDA!"

I laugh, leaning back on the couch. Casper and Lucy have been sleeping in my room, I should probably check on them. I head upstairs without saying a word, and see them sleeping peacefully together.

I take the opportunity to look out the window again, but Four's curtains are closed. I hear a faint yelling, and a  scream. That is not good. I am on the verge of crawling out my window, when the curtains open again, and I see... Senator Marcus Eaton? I had no idea Four was HIS son. I decide to leave it alone, and go back downstairs.

"But I said pepperoni AND sausage!" Uriah whines from downstairs.

I sigh, knowing what happened. "I said no questions, I wanted pepperoni, end of story!" Lynn yells, throwing a pillow at him.

He pouts, sitting back on the floor in front of his girlfriend. I walk back down, and take Christina's spot, still worried about Four.

"What's wrong Tris?" She asks, playing with my hair.

Oh where could I start? Of course, the most relevant problem, "I think something is seriously wrong with Four. I heard screaming and yelling and Senator Eaton looked out his curtains."

Zeke sits up, "Wait, the Senator Eaton that was accused of child abuse?"

I nod, beginning to worry. "That is not good. I thought those charges were dropped anyways." Lynn says, skeptical.

I breath in, "They could have been yelling about something else."

Uriah looks at me, "What else?"

I am already embarassed, "We fought about more than him being nosy. Marcus has been forcing him to make friends, and I may or may not have said we shouldn't have ever been friends."

"What?" The Pedridiots both yell.

I cower back, pulling a blanket over me like it would be protection, "I just got mad, I didn't know why. He was getting in my business, and I started to feel like he was just faking our friendship."

"That is ridiculous! Now he won't want to be friends with any of us!" Zeke yells at me, and storms out.

I have never seen him that angry. "I'm sorry, I'm with my bro on this one." Uriah says, walking out.

I sigh, looking down. I can't believe I did that to him. Now he is going to be pissed at everyone because of me.

"I'm sorry, I have to go calm him down." Shauna squeaks, running out the door.

I fight off a tear, I feel like such a shitty person right now. "Tris, that wasn't all your fault. Four is a jackass, and he probably was just friends so he wouldn't make his Dad mad." Christina says, comforting me.

I force a smile, "Maybe you are right. The guys were becoming great friends with him...still. I feel horrible."

Lynn stands up, groaning, "I am not into pity parties, get your ass up, you are fine! Guys are assholes, and we don't need to deal with that."

I am surprised how quickly she reacted, but also how Will didn't deny the fact that guys are assholes. "I-I um."

"You what, Tris? You are going to let some guy who just wanted to use you get in your way? Zeke and Uriah can go be angry pansycakes, you are going to tough it out, eat pizza with me, and rant until you can't talk anymore." Lynn demands, pulling me up by my arm.

Not wanting to fight with Lynn, I follow her lead into the kitchen, where she pulls out some Dauntless cake from Lord knows where. "I thought we were going to eat pizza." I mumble.

She rolls her eyes, "You know Trissy-poo, cake then pizza. Where are the others anyways? CHRISTINA!! MARLENE! WILL!"

They all come running into the kitchen, scared by Lynn screaming. "Come on, it is rant time."

I think this might be the only time in our lives Lynn will let us rant around her, without punching us in the face and saying we should just get over it.

"I'm first, because I am the most important." Lynn says, smirking.

"Okay, what's your problem?" I ask, pushing her.

"There are no lesbians in this school."

I stop, did she just say that was her problem? "That's because you haven't actually looked." I comment.

"Well I'm not exactly the one to just approach a girl. They have to come to me." She says, acting like it's the most obvious thing in the world.

"Well it would help if anyone besides, what, 20 people, know you're a lesbian. Right now, everybody thinks you are too scary to be approachable, in any way." Christina says, and you can see the wheels turning in her brain.

"So then what do I do?" She asks, irritated.

"You know what I want to do... I want to girlify you. New wardrobe, new hair, actually do some makeup."

Lynn laughs, "Slow down. I am not growing out my hair, and I like my clothes. Makeup takes too much time."

Christina smiles, "Oh come on, we could dye your hair, style it, I can teach you basic makeup, and how to not shop in the guys section of the store."

Lynn shakes her head, "Whatever, as long as it doesn't take more than thirty minutes in the morning on my part."

"Perfect, now, can I rant?" Christina says.

"Of course. It's your one and only opportunity." Lynn grumbles.

"Great. I know usually I rant about sales and stuff, but lately, I have had real problems. Actual human problems."

"More detail, perhaps?" I ask.

"Oh, yeah. I think my parents are getting a divorce."

Will, Lynn and I all scream, "WHAT?" at the same time.

She looks down, immediately getting upset, "I don't know, they have just been fighting so much, and they don't even sit next to each other at the dinner table anymore. It is hard to watch."

I, of course, hold her hand, "There could be many possibilities, but you have to hope for the best. Try and bring them together, and realize why they are a family."

Christina gets teary eyed, "I don't even see their spark anymore. It's like their jobs and them not being home often has made them mad at each other, and even Rose is seeing it. My little sister is too young to have to go through all of this. "

I sigh, "You know what you can do, and you know that if it does happen, you have us here the whole way to support you."

She smiles stiffly, "Thank you so much Tris. Can we please have somebody else go, I don't like this."

I give her another hug, and offer, "I guess it is my turn."

Lynn rolls her eyes, "Well duh. That's what this whole thing is for."

I look down, ready, "You guys know the basics. Four and I hated each other for the first few days of school, and then he got nicer, of course. I really did think it was genuine. He took my out to coffee the morning before crazy-psycho bitch attacked me, and today he took me out to Candor's Chicken Castle. He was being so nice."

"You didn't like him, did you?" Lynn asks, making a disgusted face.

"Oh hell no, not at all. Anyways, I really was excited for him to be friends with us, but he started getting uneasy. It was like this was all being forced. I didn't notice that until today, but it was still there. We went out to lunch, and we were just laughing and talking, and my broken ribs started to hurt, but I didn't want to tell him, I didn't want to go back to a doctor. He started pushing it, and it was just like he was demanding an answer, and expected me to give it to him. Obviously, I realized it was a mistake that I had warmed up to him, and was being friendly. I still felt awful, but he made it obvious he wasn't really friends with me. Marcus had been pushing him into this friendship anyways." I finish with  a deep breath, waiting for their reactions.

"Y'know, now that I think about it, Four was seeming like he was forced to hang out with us." Lynn remarks.

Christina breaks from her silence, "Did you say broken ribs."

Fuck.

"Um, maybe? But it isn't a big deal, they could just be bruised or something. I don't need help or anything." I say, getting the attention off of that.

Will yells, "Tris you could get pnuemonia, or a punctured lung, or a bone fragment could travel through your body, or-" I stop him, "It is absolutely fine, I am not going to die."

Will glares at me, "But you could. You should have stronger pain killers, ice on your chest, does it hurt when you breath deeply?"

"I mean, yes, but I kind of ignored it." I say, looking down.

Will groans, "Tris, I am bringing you to the E.R., now!"

"Please! I don't even think my mother could afford a visit to the hospital. I cou-AH!" I am cut off by a sharp pain in my chest, and it starts getting harder to breath.

Christina keeps me from falling on the ground.

"Tris! What just happened?" Will yells, grabbing me.

I barely talk, "M-my lungs. I feel like-I-got-stabbed."

He picks me up bridal style, "Does it hurt to breath?"

I nod, and scream out in pain again. Will is more careful, and puts me in his car. I start coughing, and it hurts even worse.  "What happened?" Christina and Lynn both yell, climbing into the backseat.

Will looks terrified, "I think her lung just collapsed."
