Chapter 9: The Truth

Master Fu's P.O.V.

I patiently sat, crossed legged on the mat, sipping on some green tea. Having finished my chores, I could only wait for Ladybug, Chat Noir and Bunnix to return. I glanced at the clock.

It was half past nine. They should be back by now. I had just began contemplating whether or not I ought to transform and contact them, when the blinding blue barrow appeared.

Ladybug and Chat Noir walked out first. I could tell immediately that, by the deeply upset expression upon Chat Noir's face, and Ladybug's concerned one, something horrible had taken place.
"What is it?" I queried.

Ladybug only sadly shook her head. Chat Noir flattened his feline ears, then he harshly whispered,
"Hawk Moth is my father."

I inwardly recoiled a pace or so, but tried to retain my calm outer appearance.
"You mean to say that... Gabriel Agreste is Hawk Moth?"

He nodded, giving a bitter laugh.

At this sound, I saw Bunnix flinch. I looked up into her face. Her eyes were filled with remorse, and, as they met mine, I saw a flash of pained guilt. I tilted my head, as if to ask
'You knew?' And she gave the slightest of nods, her countenance one of sorrow. I gave her a sympathetic glance. Being the wielder of the Rabbit Miraculous was an incredibly difficult task sometimes, one that often put a great burden upon whoever bore it.

I turned my attention back to Chat Noir. He was pacing and ranting, his words livid.
"My father is Hawk Moth. I've been fighting him all this time. He has been the one who has hurt me so much. And, if that wasn't painful enough, he tried to Akumatize me!"

My head snapped up at this,
"What?"

Chat Noir turned, a hollow look in his eyes,
"My father tried to Akumatize me".
Then he gave a small choking sound and turned away, sitting and facing the wall.

As Ladybug consolingly comforted him by gently patting his back, she elaborated,
"Hawk Moth sensed the... negative emotions that Adrien fe-" suddenly she gasped and whacked a hand over her mouth, looking at Bunnix, no doubt concerned that she had given away Chat Noir's secret identity.

Bunnix placidly looked back and reassured her,
"It's okay Marinette. I already know your secret identities."

Ladybug gave a half-choked squeak,
"How!? We never told you."

Bunnix closed her eyes and sighed. I interjected,
"I told her. As the holder of the Rabbit Miraculous, Bunnix is also the holder of a great many secrets, including the identities of the Ladybug and Black Cat miraculous holders."

Ladybug closed her eyes, taking in this news. Bunnix softly reminded her,
"Remember the time you had to fight Cat Blanc?"

We started as a hoarse voice resounded from Chat Noir,
"What did you just say?"

Silence suffocated the air. Ladybug turned to Bunnix, the question on her face. Bunnix nodded,
"It is time that he knows what happened."

Ladybug bobbed her head nervously, then she seemed calmed as Bunnix gave her a reassuring half-smile.

The heroine turned towards the leather-clad hero, who still faced the wall.

"Kitty," she wavered, then cleared her throat, "Kitty look at me."
There was a pause, then Chat Noir slowly shuffled around. His cheeks were moist, and Ladybug crouched down, gently whisking away the tears.

She sat next to him and gently stroked his hair, seemingly searching for the right words.
"Well... do you remember that one time I called you to meet on that glassy rooftop? Before we knew each others identities. You were early and I could hear you singing your little song-"

"Which song?" He interrupted. She took a deep breath, then gently sung,
"Little kitty on the roof, all alone without his Lady..." the girl trailed off.

"Ah," the boy closed his eyes and leant back in understanding.
Ladybug continued,
"Well... I arrived and said 'I did it', then leant against you for a while. You responded with something like... 'I have no idea what you're talking about, but I'm perfectly fine with it'."

Chat Noir slowly nodded,
"Yes... I remember. I never figured out what you were talking about, and always used to wonder about it." Struck by a thought, he turned to her, dread in his eyes,
"What happened?"
