Chapter 15 - Celeste
"So you're a demigod?" Percy asked.
Celeste nodded. Her feet hurt from walking for so long. This was the first time in several minutes either of them had actually spoken.
"Alright. Who's your godly parent?" He asked.
Celeste stiffened at the question. She knew the answer, but she couldn't tell him.
"I don't know." She lied.
"Oh." Percy said, looking at his feet.
"Percy-" Celeste began. She was cut off by a scream and a loud crashing noise.
"What in Hades was that!?" Percy exclaimed.
"Do you think they're in trouble?" Celeste asked.
Percy answered her question by drawing his sword. "Come on. Let's go." He said, running off to the direction of the sound.
Celeste sighed and ran after him.
By the time they had reached the scene, they were too late. No one had died, yet, but it still was pretty bad.
On the ground lay Annabeth, Jason, Piper, Leo, Hazel, and Frank. All of them were unconscious.
"Oh my gods." Celeste whispered.
Percy nodded. All of their friends, including themselves, were in no shape to fight today. No wonder the giant had beaten them so quickly.
Percy began to charge, but Celeste yanked him by the arm to keep him from running out.
"Percy, no. We have to wait for the right time." Celeste said.
Percy struggled under her grasp and she pulled him back beside her.
"Fine. But how do we defeat a giant without a god?" Percy said.
Celeste thought about it. She had never tried fighting a giant before, but her father said she had powers that were even better than the gods themselves.
Could she count as the equivalent to a god?
Even though the plan sounded like it would work, she couldn't reveal herself to Percy. But was a secret like this worth keeping if her friends died?
She looked over at Percy who was staring at her. His big sea green eyes reminded her of a lost baby seal. His pleading gaze made her give in.
"Okay. I have an idea." Celeste said.
Percy's eyes lit up. "Great. What's the idea?"
"You'll attack from the front and I'll attack from the back. That way, he thinks you're fighting alone, and then I come in." Celeste explained. She showed Percy where to strike and where to run and all sorts of things.
She explained it all in less than a minute.
"Demigods." The giant said.
They were out of time.
"Remember the plan?" Celeste asked.
Percy nodded and they walked off from each other.
"Please let this plan work. If it does...I'll come back. You can put my curse back on me. Just save my friends. And save Percy. Just help me." Celeste prayed.
She was giving in.
Today would be the last day to talk to her brother.
She was going to make it count.
Walking up behind the giant, her nerves picked up. She tried to shake the fear away.
Meanwhile, Percy was walking right into the vision of the giant. He looked just as nervous.
The giant laughed. It didn't sound like a laugh. "Come here to surrender?" The giant asked.
Percy lifted his sword. "I came here to get my friends back."
The giant laughed even louder. "Alone? All by yourself? Good luck with that young demigod. But you need a god to defeat me, and you're all alone."
Percy looked determined, unlike Celeste who was shaking hard. Usually, she could kill monsters because they couldn't see her, now, she was as visible as anyone else.
The giant pulled a large club out of his dreadlocks and swung at Percy. He jumped out of the way just in time.
Running, he stuck his sword exactly in the places Celeste told him to strike.
She was glad he remembered.
The giant swung again, missing Percy by only inches.
Percy stabbed and slashed and poked, but nothing was working. It was time for Celeste to step in.
She summoned the power of the ocean to her. It created a tugging feeling in her gut, but she kept her focus.
She felt as of she was in the water, floating away like a piece of driftwood.
Then she struck.
A large wave came out of the ocean and aimed straight for the giant. It made the giant stumble, and Celeste had to sprint out of the way to avoid being flattened like a pancake.
The giant fell, sputtering out salt water.
His eyes grew more angry.
"You will die for that Son of Poseidon." The giant said.
Percy looked dumbfounded. "But I didn't-"
"Don't lie half-blood. I don't see any other demigods around here to help you." The giant spat.
Percy's eyes widened. "What?" His eyes darted around.
"Looking for me probably." Celeste thought.
She was invisible again. That wave was her deal. "Thanks dad." She thought sarcastically.
She was about to go help Percy when her father's voice spoke in her head.
"You are not in this prophecy. Percy has to prove himself. You will not intervene. If you do, you may never speak to your brother again."
Celeste felt on the verge of tears. It was all she could do but watch as the giant charged straight for her brother.
